Strained InAsN/InGaAs/InP multiple quantum well structures grown by RF-plasma assisted GSMBE for mid-infrared laser applications
Geographic profiling in Nazi Berlin: fact and fiction
Geographic profiling uses the locations of connected crime sites to make inferences about the probable location of the offender’s ‘anchor point’ (usually a home, but sometimes a workplace). We show how the basic ideas of the method were used in a Gestapo investigation that formed the basis of a classic German novel about domestic resistance to the Nazis during the Second World War. We use modern techniques to re-analyse this case, and show that these successfully locate the Berlin home address of Otto and Elise Hampel, who had distributed hundreds of anti-Nazi postcards, after analysing just 34 of the 214 incidents that took place before their arrest. Our study provides the first empirical evidence to support the suggestion that analysis of minor terrorism-related acts such as graffiti and theft could be used to help locate terrorist bases before more serious incidents occur

Shubnikov–de Haas oscillations of two-dimensional electron gas in an InAsN/InGaAs single quantum well
We present the first investigation of Shubnikov–de Haas (SdH) oscillations
of two-dimensional electron gas formed in an InAsN/InGaAs single
quantum well (QW) grown on an InP substrate using gas source molecular
beam epitaxy and a radio-frequency (rf ) plasma nitrogen source. The
photoluminescence (PL) peak energy of the InAsN/InGaAs QW decreases
compared with that of InAs/InGaAs QW. This agrees with the bowing effect
due to the incorporation of nitrogen atoms. The nitrogen content can be
estimated to be 0.4% using the PL peak positions as well as x-ray
diffraction. From the SdH oscillations, the carrier concentration is 2.85 × 1011 cm−2 and the effective mass is 0.1±0.01m0. The enhancement of the
effective mass is mainly due to the incorporation of the nitrogen atoms in the
InAs lattice, which is consistent with a recent study on InAsN bulk alloys.
The large increase of the effective mass cannot be explained by the simple
band anticrossing model. In addition, we observe a temperatureindependent
magnetoresistivity at a critical magnetic field. Our analysis
supports the fact that the value of the critical exponent in the quantum Hall
effect is not universal

He is currently holds the Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington.He has received awards from prestigious organizations such as the American Institute of Architects and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards.More recently, in 2013, he received the gold medal of the UID, in Matera , where we had the pleasure of meeting Frank Ching in person and invited him to this interview, which has now been published.At Matera, surrounded by his students, the professor drew the Sassi, illustrating in front of our eyes, what he has been doing for decades: using Drawing as a cognitive and creative tool. His way to approach arquitectural drawing has been a benchmark for many generations of graphic arts teachers. Differential susceptibility of Iowa waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus) populations to 2,4-D, dicamba, and glufosinate
Multiple herbicide-resistant waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus (Moq.) J.D. Sauer) has limited herbicide options for Iowa row crop production. Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) cultivars and corn (Zea mays L.) hybrids resistant to 2,4-D, dicamba, and glufosinate have provided more herbicide options for waterhemp management. A probability-based survey of Iowa fields was conducted in fall 2019 wherein waterhemp seeds were collected and their susceptibility to 2,4-D, dicamba, and glufosinate was determined. The average survival of all populations treated with 1× 2,4-D, dicamba, and glufosinate was 17%, 5%, and 4%, respectively.
