의 지속 가능한 지역사회 프로젝트의 디자인 전략은 중국의 새로운 디자인 공정의 예로 제시
된다. 지역 특정적으로 생각하고 국제적으로 행동함으로써, 국제 사회와의 관련성이 거의 연
구되지 않은 중국적인 작업 방식이 설립되었다. 전략을 세운다는 의미를 지닌 고대 중국의 군
사 용어 She Ji (設計, 설계)를 이용함으로써, 균형을 맞춘 교환의 한 체계 내에서 도시-지방,
정부-지역사회 그리고 지역-세계를 다룰 수 있는 디자이너의 능력을 이끌어 낸 기초 구조에
대한 방법이 도입되었다. Rapid development in China has caused the need for sustainable solutions more than
ever before. e future situation of Chinese society depends on taking advantage of
the opportunity for change. Approaching solutions that are sustainable through society
itself will create a way of being that is applicable to daily life. e design strategy of
the Chongming Sustainable Community Project is presented as such a case for a new
design process in China. By thinking local and acting international, a Chinese way of
working is established that is rarely studied in its relevance to global society. Using She
Ji, an ancient Chinese military term meaning to establish a strategy, a tool for a framework
is introduced resulting in the ability of the designer to operate the urban-rural,
government-community and local-global in one system of counterbalanced exchange

Design in Marketization: The Invention of Car Safety in Automobile Markets
Get PDFThis article conceptualizes the relation between design, economics, and innovation. Rather than connecting design to economics through the notion of value, it explores how economics construes negative side-effects of market activities. Aligning itself with recent She Ji contributions that tie design to the economic sociology of Michel Callon, this article argues that markets assume a constant process of managing such side-effects. The invention of car safety and the development of safety design features in 1950s Sweden illustrate this. Automotive design through safety innovations can be seen as a design process that transcended the clear separation between business and politics assumed by neoclassical economics. This article argues that this phenomenon is a concern for design scholars as well as social scientists. I assert that it is important to explore this line of inquiry by investigating design processes in different economic settings

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
