A randomized phase II study of radiation induced immune boost in operable non-small cell lung cancer (RadImmune trial)
Background: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Surgery, radiotherapy at conventional and high dose and chemotherapy are the mainstay for lung cancer treatment. Insufficient migration and activation of tumour specific effector T cells seem to be important reasons for inadequate host anti-tumour immune response. Ionizing radiation can induce a variety of immune responses. The goal of this randomized trial is to assess if a preoperative single fraction low dose radiation is able to improve anti-tumour immune response in operable early stage lung cancer. Methods/Design: This trial has been designed as an investigator-initiated, prospective, randomized, 2-armed phase II trial. Patients who are candidates for elective resection of early stage non-small cell lung cancer will be randomized into 2 arms. A total of 36 patients will be enrolled. The patients receive either 2 Gy or no radiation prescribed to their primary tumour. Radiation will be delivered by external beam radiotherapy using 3D radiotherapy or intensity-modulated radiation technique (IMRT) 7 days prior to surgical resection. The primary objective is to compare CD8+ T cell counts detected by immunohistochemistry in resected tumours following preoperative radiotherapy versus no radiotherapy. Secondary objectives include the association between CD8+ T cell counts and progression free survival, the correlation of CD8+ T cell counts quantified by immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry, local tumour control and recurrence patterns, survival, radiogenic treatment toxicity and postoperative morbidity and mortality. Further, frequencies of tumour reactive T cells in blood and bone marrow as well as whole blood cell transcriptomics and plasma-proteomics will be correlated with clinical outcome. Discussion: This unique intervention combining preoperative low dose radiation and surgical removal of early stage non-small cell lung cancer is designed to address the problem of inadequate host anti-tumour immune response. If successful, this study may affect the role of radiotherapy in lung cancer treatment. Trial registration: NCT02319408; Registration: December 29, 2014

Maintaining the Presumption of Innocence in Date Rape Trials Through the Use of Language Orders: State v. Safi and the Banning of the Word Rape
This note evaluates the use of language orders in date rape trials in which the defense is consent through a case study of State v. Safi, in which Tory Bowen claims that Pamir Safi date raped her. In that case, the trial judge granted a motion by the defense to prevent the prosecution and any of their witnesses from using words such as rape and sexual assault. Using State v. Safi as a starting point, the author examines the use of such trial orders from the perspective of both defendants and victims. The author concludes that a modified version of such language orders would effectively preserve the presumption of innocence afforded to all criminal defendants without sacrificing a fair opportunity for victims to see their attackers convicted
Problems of Ontology in the Heritage of Ali Safi
This article focuses on fundamental ontological and philosophical views of the representative of the Central Asian Renaissance Ali Safi, who in their writings have found a «consensus» between the official theology of Sunni Islam and the philosophical teachings of the «Greek Sciences» and their Eastern representatives. The fundamental features of the philosophical Outlook of the scientist are given: true commitment to Sunnism, objective idealism. In addition, the author seeks to show Ali Mafia as a tolerant representative of his society. The author found out that the entire medieval concept of Islamic philosophy, as well as the objective monism of Sufism based on idealism, was based on Ali Safi’s worldviews. It is established that the scientist in his analyses was not limited to the definitions and conclusions of Sufis and philosophers, but provided his own conclusion in relation to being, cited materials from ancient Oriental works, expressing skepticism towards them
Lifting effect of sequential autologous fat injection (SAFI) in three patients with small and flat malar bones
Various fat grafting techniques are commonly performed to restore the facial volume deficiency in the soft tissue. Generally, the purified fat is evenly injected into the whole layer in the volume deficit area. The sequential autologous fat injection (SAFI) technique is known to have a volumetric lifting effect. In patients with small and flat malar bones, the soft tissue foundation becomes weak; hence, the soft tissue overlying the bone easily sags even in young patients. Therefore, the author tried to apply the SAFI technique to correct the sagging face. The fat was harvested and purified by the Coleman’s method, and sequentially injected into each defective region in the superolateral to anteroinferior direction. Furthermore, the fat was injected consequently in the deep, middle, and superficial layers to increase the skeletal support for the soft tissue using the SAFI technique. An increase in the volume in the malar and sub-malar areas and decrease in the volume in the deep nasolabial folds and jowls were simultaneously observed. Moreover, the facial contour changed from square to inverted triangle type with shallow nasolabial folds and lifted appearance of the jowls in these 3 cases. The results indicated that the SAFI technique could be used for volumetric face lifting, because it focuses on the correction of the skeletal deformity in order to improve the soft tissue foundation
4D SignWordNet: Building a Comprehensive Video Dataset for Bengali Sign Word Recognition Model and Language Model
This dataset contains videos illustrating Bengali Sign Language. 6 Bangladeshi adults created this dataset with the specific goal of addressing the absence of a comprehensive video dataset for Bengali Sign Language. This dataset serves as a bridge to fill this gap by offering a rich resource to develop real-life expert systems. This dataset aims to include all aspect of practical sign language usage, addressing the critical need for variety. This dataset comprises two parts as word and sentences each of which includes two sections. The first section involves Raw Video Data and the second involves the Masking Data. Within the Masking Video Data, there are two types of videos: with background and without background. For the word part, each section and sub section contain 102 classes with approximately 300 videos per class, resulting in a total of approximately 30,600 videos in each section and approximately 91,800 videos overall. And for the sentence part, each section and sub section comprise 20 classes with approximately 100 videos per class, resulting in a total of approximately 2000 videos in each section and approximately 6000 videos overall. Notably, both sections of the dataset prioritize diversity by capturing videos in various backgrounds and lighting conditions, ensuring its suitability for real-world applications. This dataset is made available through a data use agreement.

Crime Masala : Ibne Safi and South Asian crime fiction writing
Crime fiction written in Urdu language is an example of an extraordinary literary phenomenon. Books written in that genre are extremely popular amongst the readers in both India and Pakistan. Yet, in those countries novels by prolific crime fiction writers are not even included on best-seller lists, even though their selling reaches thousands of copies. Moreover, crime fiction is absent from works of literary critics and scholars dealing with vernacular writing of India and Pakistan. The main aim of this article is to present the crime scene of Urdu literature through the profile of Ibne Safi – the most interesting writer of this genre. The text focuses on the style of the author and inspirations that have shaped his writing. Arguments are based on excerpts from his novels that have not been translated into Polish before
