Şair ve ressam İlhan Berk'in, editörleri Memet Fuat ve Enis Batur'a yazdığı özel mektupların içeriğini yine sanat oluşturmaktadır. Mektuplar incelendiğinde, Berk'in hayatını, sanata ve dünyaya bakışını gözler önüne serdiği görülmektedir. Art composes the content of private letters written to Memet Fuat and Enis Batur, who are the poet and artist İlhan Berk's editors. When the letters are analyzed, we notice that those represent Berk's life and his perspective on art and world. So these works are important for the history of literature. Berk considers that the world to be a subject of writing and he has a desire to live all his life by writing. For Berk, writing means expressing himself. Although the themes of love, woman, history and sexuality dominate his poems, he never deepens in a subject or a style. So, for him, every poem or book is a new beginning. Berk thinks that empiricism is one of his most important characteristics and his poems are always in a change. The permanent side of his poems are language and meaning. For the poet, language is the most important problem in modern poems and he disagrees with wasting the poetic language. The ambiguity of meaning in his poems is sometimes confused with meaningless but he thinks that a poetry has to have a lot of meanings. Thus it can be permanent. İlhan Berk, who searches for permanency and good poetry, is an artist that is aware of poetry traditions of Turkish Literature and benefits from these traditions. He is also one of the rare poets that has an opportunity of reading and acknowleding western poems in original and bring together these cultural richness with his own poems. This artist, who wants to be known as a poet first, reflects it to his prose, drawings and all his life, and in a sense he breathes poetry . İlhan Berk who is in love with writing, became one of the most productive artist of Turkish literature. In this study, through the highlighted letters which were written to Memet Fuat and Enis Batur, İlhan Berk is portrayed as a poet, artsit, interpreter and human being totally. Key words: İlhan Berk, Enis Batur, Memet Fuat, letter, poem

İnci Aral'ın son romanı Kendi Gecesinde (2014)'nin yapı ve tema unsurları açısından tahlil edileceği bu çalışmada, romanı oluşturan materyal ve teknik unsurlar arasındaki organik bağlantı üzerinden metnin derin yapısı çözümlenirken, bahsi geçen romanın, yazarın diğer eserleri arasındaki yeri de tespit edilecektir. Buna göre; Kendi Gecesinde, Aral'ın, 1991 tarihli ilk romanı Ölü Erkek Kuşlar'dan itibaren bireyi ve bireyin sorunlarını merkeze alan romanlarının son halkasını oluşturmaktadır. Ağırlıklı olarak kadın karakterlerin etrafında aşk, sevgi, cinsellik, aile, evlilik, ölüm, özgürlük temalarını ele alan Aral, bu genel temalara, bölünmüş benlikler, varoluş sancıları, cinsel kimlik buhranları gibi psikolojik temaları da ekler. Öte yandan salt kadınları anlatmakla sınırlı kalmayıp erkek karakterleri de söz konusu bireysel temalar ekseninde tahlil eden yazar, kadın - erkek ayrımı yapmaktan ziyade bütünüyle "birey"i eserlerinin odağına yerleştirme kaygısındadır. In this study, where İnci Aral's last novel Kendi Gecesinde (2014) is going to be analyzed in terms of structure and theme, deep structure of the text is going to be resolved over the organic connection between the materials and technical elements that constitute the text as well as its place among the other works of author is going to be determined. In accordance with this, Kendi Gecesinde constitutes the last chain of her novels where the individual and the problems of the individual have been focused since Aral's first novel called Ölü Erkek Kuşlar written in 1991. Aral who mainly deals with the themes of romance, love, sex, family, marriage, death, freedom around female characters; adds psychological themes such as split personality, pains of existence, depression of sexual identity to these general themes. On the other hand, she does not just talk about women; she analyzes men on the basis of mentioned themes above. The writer does not discriminate between men and women; but rather she has an anxiety for positioning the "individual" in the center of her works. At this point, the works of the author, which can be evaluated under the category of psychological novel, have a sociological identity in terms of the individual's consideration of the "society" where he/she lives in. Within this context, Kendi Gecesinde is a psycho-social novel with a male character in the focus, it covers the themes of family, marriage, romance, love and the changes that a generation experiences

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Born in Bursa’s Mustafakemalpaşa in 1971, author Kemal Selçuk delves into literature, writing, and matters of love in his novel Cemiyet Kaçkını (2016), with the ever-present silhouette of Bursa accompanying the reader in the background. The city becomes a stage for the turmoil of the storyteller Oğuz Bayrak, who navigates a love triangle he has constructed for himself (Kerim, Makbule, Oğuz), spanning from the 1980s to the 2000s. The competition and literary passion between Oğuz and Kerim are witnessed by antiquarian bookstores, magazine publications, signing events, and similar activities, which highlight the literary vein of the city. Meanwhile, Makbule, the woman both are enamored with, embodies the memory of the city with her profound attachment to Bursa and her amateur love for literature. Consequently, Cemiyet Kaçkını is not merely a novel about Oğuz’s unrequited love for Makbule but also a modern urban narrative that sheds light on Bursa’s past and ongoing transformation as a memory space. This study will focus on the story of the ancient city of Bursa, chosen by Kemal Selçuk as the setting for his novel Cemiyet Kaçkını, which tells the adventures of two literature-loving aspiring writers in love with the same woman, extending to literature, love, and the city’s memory

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
