The Generic Structure and Language Features of Descriptive Text Composed by High Achieving Students of Grade Eight at SMPN 1 Tempursari, Lumajang
The purpose of this study was to portray features of Descriptive text writing produced by high achieving students . The design of this research was the Descriptive Study. The research subjects were the high achieving students of SMPN 1 Tempursari, Lumajang whose score 75 or higher. In this research, the researcher used writing test to determine the descriptive text, to be analyzed further in order to know the patterns of the generic structure and language features. The results revealed that all the high achievers could develop identification part as stated in the theory. It is reflected from the existence of the phenomenon which is stated in the identification. On the contrary, the result revealed that most of the high achievers had some problems in writing description part. They had difficulties in developing main idea into a paragraph and did not understand the points that should be written in description. It is reflected from the students writing which contains more than one idea in a paragraph and the inappropriateness of the content written. The students also were not able to apply simple present tense correctly. High achievers got problems in applying simple present verbs and subject agrement in developing descriptions of descriptive text. The errors made by the students were the same as what they did in writing identification. In applying adjective, the high achievers did not get any problems, they all were able to apply adjective appropriately
Using Stick Figures to Enhance the Eighth Grade Students’ Recount Text Writing Achievement at SMPN 11 Jember
This research was intended to enhance the eighth grade students’ recount text writing achievement by using stick figures at SMPN 11 Jember in 2015/2016 academic year. The design of this research was a classroom action research. There were 38 students as the subjects of this research. Writing test and fieldnote were used to collect the data. This research was carried out in one cycle since the students’ score already achieved the research criteria. The result of writing test showed that there was an improvement that could be seen from the percentage of the students who got ≥ 72 as standard score from 42.10% to 84.21%. Meanwhile, according to the observation fieldnote, most of the students were helped to produce the recount text and they were able to apply the writing skill components such as grammar, vocabulary, organization, contents and mechanics correctly in their writing by using stick figures in series provided. Based on the explanation above, it could be concluded that stick figures in series could enhance the eighth grade students’ recount text writing achievement at SMPN 11 Jember in the 2015/2016 academic year
Improving the Eighth Grade Students’ Descriptive Text Writing Achievement by Using Realia at Smp Negeri 1 Puger
This classroom action research was intended to improve the eighth grade students’ descriptive text writing achievement by using realia at SMP Negeri 1 Puger. This research was conducted in one cycle which consists of three meetings. There were two kinds of data collected in this research; qualitative and quantitative. The qualitative data was gotten from the observation and the quantitative data was gotten from the writing test. Both of the data was analyzed in different ways. The qualitative data was analyzed by using inductive analysis techniques. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was analyzed by using a certain formula to get the percentage of the students who achieved score 72 or more. Based on the data analysis, it was revealed that the percentage of the students who got score 72 or more in the writing test increased from 29.4% (in preliminary study) to 94.12% (at the end of the research). The use of realia to teach writing helped the students have long memories about the vocabularies learnt, especially for the adjectives. The learning tasks using realia also help the students practice developing the five aspects of writing such as mechanics, grammar, content, organization, and vocabulary. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of realia could improve the students’ descriptive text writing achievement. Therefore, it is suggested to the English teacher to use realia as instructional media in teaching descriptive text writing
The Effect of Organizational Culture on Employee Performance with Job Satisfaction as an Intervening Variable on Indonesian Maritime Transportation Company
Having qualified human resources is one important factor in a business's success. Companies need to manage their human resources effectively and efficiently for employees to perform at their best. Authoritative culture and occupation fulfillment are a few factors that can further develop worker execution. As a result, this study is crucial for determining the impact of organizational culture on employee job satisfaction and performance. This study employs an explanatory and quantitative methodology. This study included 135 respondents, with the number of subjects calculated using the Slovin formula and selected through simple random sampling. SmartPLS 4.0 is used to process the PLS-SEM used in the data analysis method. The direct effect reveals that organizational culture significantly influences employee performance, job satisfaction significantly affects organizational culture, job satisfaction does not notably influence employee performance, and it does not act as a mediator in the relationship between organizational culture and employee performance. Maritime Transportation Company can use these findings to improve employee performance by emphasizing job satisfaction and fostering a supportive organizational culture
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
The Descriptive Study of The Eighth Grade Students' Recount Text Writing Ability at SMPN 6 Jember in the 2014/2015 Academic Year
The objectives of this research were to describe the eighth grade students’ recount text writing ability at SMPN 6 Jember in the 2014/2015 academic year, to describe the students’ score which are categorized excellent, good, fair, poor, and very poor, to describe students’ score of writing ability based on writing aspect. This research was a descriptive research and the research respondents were the students of 8B of SMPN 6 Jember in 2014 and 2015 academic year. The data were collected from the students' writing test score, interview and documentation. Based on the analysis, the students’ writing ability in recount text writing ability was classified as “Fair” category or 67.08. It was on the range score 60 – 69. The average score in the aspect of mechanics was 67.7 or “Fair”, in the aspect of content was 69.4 or “Fair”, in the aspect of grammar was 63.9 or “Fair”, in the aspect of vocabulary was 63.27 or “Fair” category, and in the aspect of organization was 71.9 or “Good” category. This means that 8B students' recount text writing ability was relatively fair
