This paper aims to analyze the reinterpret the story of  Bambang Sumantri in Sujiwo Tejo’s graphic novel Serat Tripama: Gugur Cinta di Maespati.  The meaning of heroism in this novel was reexamined through various doubts, unawareness, and wonder of Bambang Sumantri. The data were collected through reading, observing, and taking notes. The data were analyzed with the semiotic method.  The interpretation is done by interpreting changes through looking at the relationship between the signifier and the signified within which the implicit, indirect, and uncertain meanings operate, by interpreting the meanings hiddeng behind the words,  phrases, and sentences that are called connotative meanings (second layer) by semiotics. The reinterpretation on this graphic novel shows that in addition to Bambang Sumantri  depicted as truly heroic, there are many other “hands” who helped him become a figure and hero. The heroism of Bambang Sumantri is not the center of this book. Instead, there are also other figures who made him a hero. Therefore, the author reinterpreted the heroism of Bambang Sumantri from different point of view. This paper aims to analyze the transformation of  Bambang Sumatri in Sujiwo Tejo’s graphic novel Serat Tripama: Gugur Cinta di Maespati.  The goal of the study is to discuss the reinterpretation of Wayang (shadow puppet) story into the graphic novel. The story of Bambang Sumantri is one of the three epic stories in Serat Tripama (three role models) written by KGPAA Mangkunegara IV (1809-1881). Serat Tripama is tembang (song) Dandanggula which consists of seven stanzas telling about Bambang Sumantri, Kumbakarna, and Adipati Karna’s heroism which serves as role model for every warrior. Sujiwo Tejo transformed the three of the stories into graphic novels in which Bambang Sumantri is the central character of the first book entitled Serat Tripama: Gugur Cinta di Maespati which was first published in February 2016. The story of Maespati Kingdom’s duke becomes the first of three books as per the order of the tembang: the first and the second stanzas narrate the heroism of Bambang BS, the third and the forth tell about Kumbakarna, the fifth and the sixth tell about Adipati Karna, while the last serves as the conclusion. The transformation in this graphic novel shows that Bambang BS is not always depicted as truly heroic, but also shows many other “hands” which made him the figure and hero. The heroism of Bambang BS is not the center of this book, instead there are also other figures who made him as hero. Therefore the author made the transformation by viewing the character through different way. Key Words: reinterpretation; heroism; serat tripama; grapic nove

Decentralization of forest administration in Indonesia: implications for forest sustainability, economic development and community livelihoods

Since the collapse of Soeharto s New Order regime in May 1998, Indonesia s national, provincial, and district governments have engaged in an intense struggle over how authority and the power embedded in it, should be shared. How this ongoing struggle over authority in the forestry sector will ultimately play out is of considerable significance due to the important role that Indonesia s forests play in supporting rural livelihoods, generating economic revenues, and providing environmental services. This book examines the process of forestry sector decentralization that has occurred in post-Soeharto Indonesia, and assesses the implications of more recent efforts by the national government to recentralize administrative authority over forest resources. It aims to describe the dynamics of decentralization in the forestry sector, to document major changes that occurred as district governments assumed a greater role in administering forest resources, and to assess what the ongoing struggle among Indonesia s national, provincial, and district governments is likely to mean for forest sustainability, economic development at multiple levels, and rural livelihoods. Drawing from primary research conducted by numerous scientists both at CIFOR and its many Indonesian and international partner institutions since 2000, this book sketches the sectoral context for current governmental reforms by tracing forestry development and the changing structure of forest administration from Indonesia s independence in 1945 to the fall of Soeharto s New Order regime in 1998. The authors further examine the origins and scope of Indonesia s decentralization laws in order to describe the legal-regulatory framework within which decentralization has been implemented both at the macro-level and specifically within the forestry sector. This book also analyses the decentralization of Indonesia s fiscal system and describes the effects of the country s new fiscal balancing arrangements on revenue flows from the forestry sector, and describes the dynamics of district-level timber regimes following the adoption of Indonesia s decentralization laws. Finally, this book also examines the real and anticipated effects of decentralization on land tenure and livelihood security for communities living in and around forested areas, and summarizes major findings and options for possible interventions to strengthen the forestry reform efforts currently underway in Indonesia

Predicting Stock Returns Using Financial Statement Information

We examine the profitability of the Ou and Penman (1989a) "Pr" trading strategy and the Holthausen and Larcker (1992) "Prob" trading strategy over the period 1980-1992 in the UK. This is a test of whether an investor can earn abnormal returns by exploiting fundamental accounting data. We employ alternative abnormal return metrics and research designs to control for risk. Using a UK dataset offers an independent test because the UK differs from the US in its formal and informal financial reporting environment, its structure of share ownership, and the behaviour of its economy over the study period. We find consistent evidence that an investor could have used a summary measure of financial statement information to predict future abnormal returns by indirectly predicting one-year-ahead earnings changes, but only weak and inconsistent evidence that an investor could have used a summary measure of financial statement information to predict one-year-ahead stock returns directly. We offer some thoughts on the reasons for these different results. Copyright Blackwell Publishers Ltd 1998.

Corruption et revenus forestiers en Papouasie indonésienne

    Get PDF

Corruption and Forest Revenues in Papua

    Get PDF
Under a sustainable, well-managed, logging regime, Papua - the most densely forested part of Indonesia - can potentially contribute substantial forest revenues for socio-economic development. Yet, it remains the poorest region in the country, in part due to widespread corruption involving public and private actors. Specific changes to the forest revenue management system are required to address corruption. Donors can support these changes by engaging in capacity building for auditors, accountants and investigators, and through technical assistance for improving forest monitoring and production reports
