Potential Benefits of Artificial Intelligence-Based Instruction Implementation in English Academic Writing Course: A Case Study at an Indonesian Private University
This study describes the potential benefits of implementing AI-based instruction in an English academic writing course by revealing the views from the lecturers' perspective. This research uses a qualitative descriptive case study to investigate the phenomenon of using AI in higher education in the Indonesian context. During data collection, interviews were conducted to gather lecturers' perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence in English academic writing courses. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. Based on the findings, there are five benefits of implementing artificial intelligence in English academic writing courses. The results showed that the lecturers showed a positive perception towards the use of this platform. Integrating artificial intelligence provides prospects for personalized learning and feedback, increased efficiency and productivity of lecturers, improved quality of teaching and learning, innovation in teaching methods, and preparation of students for the digital era
USING COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING (CLT) APPROACH THROUGH SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION AS A DEVICE TO STIMULATE THE STUDENTS TO SPEAK IN ENGLISH
This study was conducted to find out whether or not the using of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Approach through Small Group Discussion effective to stimulate the students to speak in English than the conventional way, and also to improve the teacher awareness to use an effective approach in teaching English, especially in teaching speaking skill. This study employed a Pre-Experimental research method with One Group Pre-test and Post-test Design. The data obtained from the test was analyzed quantitatively and then it’s result was compared with the questionnaire to know whether the students interested in learning speaking by using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Approach or not. The mean score obtained from Pre-test was 2, 84 and post-test were 6, 01. The data showed that the student’s speaking skills in post-test were higher than the pre-test. The data obtained from questionnaire showed the mean score 78, 67. It means that the students were highly interested in the application of speaking materials through Communicative Language Teaching Approach through small group discussion.Keyword: Communicative Language Teaching Approach, Small Group discussion, speaking.</jats:p
STUDENTS’ PROBLEMS AND MOTIVATIONS TO CONTINUING STUDY AT THE ENGLISH EDUCATION OF MAGISTER PROGRAM IN MAKASSAR
Abstract
This research aims to find out the problems and also the motivations of students experience or face when they want to continue their studies in the English education of magister program at the State University of Makassar. In this study, the researchers used a method in which the method was a descriptive qualitative method. Meanwhile, the researchers conducted this research in the English Education magister program at the State University of Makassar. Then the respondents in this study totaled 30 students, they were students in the fourth semester English education program. The data in this study were taken directly from the sample by the researchers using several questions where the questions were open-ended questions given by the researchers to the respondent. Then the data were transcribed and analyzed by the researchers. The findings in this study were based on research problems students’ problems and motivations to continue studying at the English education of master program at the State University of Makassar, namely 1) The researchers found that there were six problems faced by students while they were learning English of magister program in State University of Makassar. The problems were: 1. The problem of student academics, 2. Student administrative problems, 3. Student problems with their lecturers, 4. Student financial problems, 5. Student time management problems, and also 6. Student facility problems, 2) the researchers also found 5 types of motivational backgrounds of students in continuing their studies in the English education of the magister program, and the types were: 1. Student quality motivation, 2. Student career motivation, 3. Student economic motivation, 4. Student social motivation and finally 5. Motivation is based on their family
THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUPRENEURSHIP OF EFL STUDENTS IN THE INDONESIAN CONTEXT
The growing knowledge about edupreneurship in tertiary institutions, makes the goal not only to lead students to become entrepreneurs but more to form the character of edupreneurship, including EFL students. This study aims to elaborate on how to implement edupreneurship by EFL students in the Indonesian context. This descriptive research method uses a qualitative, semi-interviews with two focals participants, due to their experiences as business owners in the world of entrepreneurship education, also have received edupreneurship courses in college. The author wants to see how they implement their business and related to EFL. The findingsfrom interview sections showed that in implementig edupreneurship had varius aspects, the managerial and process, further other aspects appeared also, like environment, technology and of course an entrepreneurship course, took an important rules in running the bussiness. In terms of EFL, edupreneurship get involved in. By this finding, of course, the business they are currently running can be a trigger for other students who want to start passions in the world of edupreneurship.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
