No full textComplying with certain requirements or, more precisely, following the guidelines for the design of a scientific publication helps to make it not only more comprehensible for reviewers and readers, but actually enhances the quality of work. For example, even if some aspects in design logic were fulfilled but not described, other researchers doing meta-analysis may wrongly but for a good reason downgrade such publication and exclude it from the analysis. understanding of the guidelines for study design ensures not only the proper description of the results but the initial planning of work. The CARE guidelines were established for reporting of clinical cases, STROBE for reporting observational studies (cohort and case-control studies), CONSORT for reporting randomized studies (these guidelines are often used also for other comparative and case series studies), STARD for reporting diagnostic studies, and PRISMa for reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The present paper describes the key aspects of those guidelines and provides templates for graphic display of study design in form of flow charts. evidently, we should not forget that each study is unique and there is always a place for a reasonable compromise between requirements and the real logic of the research in place.

Например, даже если какие-то пункты в логике дизайна и были выполнены на самом деле, но не были описаны, то другие исследователи, занимающиеся метаанализом, могут незаслуженно, но обоснованно снизить качество такой работы и исключить ее из своего анализа. Понимание рекомендаций по оформлению позволяет не только хорошо описать свои результаты, но и спланировать работу изначально. Для описания клинических случаев существуют рекомендации CARE, для наблюдательных исследований (когортные исследования и исследования случай-контроль) STROBE, для рандомизированных исследований CONSORT (которые часто используются и для других сравнительных исследований, серий случаев), для диагностических работ STARD и для систематических обзоров и метаанализов PRISMA. В этой работе мы опишем основные моменты этих рекомендаций и дадим шаблоны для графического отображения дизайна исследований в виде блок-схем. Конечно же, нельзя забывать, что каждая научная работа индивидуальна и всегда есть место разумному компромиссу между требованиями и реально имевшей место логике научного поиска.

Pressure drop and turbulence statistics in transpired pipe flow
No full textMeasurements of turbulent flow in a horizontal pipe subjected to wall transpiration are presented. Results include data on global flow rates and pressure drop, and local mean and fluctuating velocity profiles. Two distinct flow transpiration rates are studied, = / = 0.0005 and 0.001. The effects of flow transpiration on the friction-coefficient are compared with theoretical predictions. The theory furnishes predictions accurate to 3\%
Fully Turbulent Mean Velocity Profile for Purely Viscous non-Newtonian Fluids
No full textThe characteristic near wall behavior of turbulent flow of purely-viscous non-Newtonian fluids is discussed for both power-law (P.-L.) and Herschel-Bulkley (H.-B.) rheological models. A proper scaling is presented for H.-B. fluids to establish an analogy with power-law fluids with same flow index. To provide reference data for turbulent flow of non-Newtonian fluids, DNS simulations of power-law fluids are conducted in a rectangular channel for a large range of power-law indices ( = 0.5, 0.69, 0.75, 0.9, 1, 1.2). The DNS data show that the mean velocity profile in the viscous and logarithmic layers follow expressions of the form and respectively, where shows a logarithmic dependency on the flow index.Comparison with some experimental data shows the above formulation to be valid for Reynolds numbers (based on shear velocity) as high as 1000
