Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
FAKTOR KEBERHASILAN BELAJAR SANTRI MADRASAH DINIYAH TAKMILIYAH (MDTA) MASJID SYUKUR RAWANG TIMUR PADANG SELATAN
The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics of successful learning among MDTA students at the Syukur Mosque in South Padang, the role of teachers in supporting successful learning among MDTA students at the Syukur Mosque in South Padang, and the leadership role of the principal in supporting successful learning among MDTA students at the Syukur Mosque in South Padang.
This research is a qualitative descriptive study using document review techniques, in-depth interviews, and observation. The sample in this study was a persuasive sample based on the relevance and depth of the information. This research was conducted at the Syukur Mosque Madrasah (MDTA) in South Padang in August 2024.
The results of the research concluded that: first, student learning success begins with success in solving student learning problems. The characteristics of student learning success are seen from three aspects: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Learning success can also be seen from student achievements in both academic and non-academic fields. Second, as teachers, teachers must master the material being taught, possess good teaching methods, models, and techniques, and be able to conduct assessments. As mentors, teachers guide students to success in their learning and act as liaisons who can foster collaboration with parents. Third, the leadership of the madrasah principal as a manager, by optimizing the "golden triangle" consisting of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, parents, teachers, and the madrasah principal. Optimizing collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, because the MDTA of the Syukur Mosque in South Padang is under its auspices, supervises the teaching and learning process, from learning materials to the teaching and learning process. The madrasah principal directs, motivates, establishes harmonious relationships, and collaborates with other parties to find new innovations
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
UPAYA GURU MENINGKATKAN MOTIVASI BELAJAR PESERTA DIDIK DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN MEDIA GRAFIS DI MIS LIKI SOLOK SELATAN
This research was motivated by the low level of understanding among sixth-grade students at MIS Liki Solok Selatan in learning Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Students tended to memorize the learning materials without fully understanding the concepts. As a result, when they forgot the memorized content, they were unable to explain the material or answer questions at the end of the lesson. In addition, teachers rarely used learning media, causing the learning process to be dominated by verbal explanations, with students acting as passive recipients. The low level of students’ understanding and learning motivation can be addressed through the use of engaging learning media, one of which is graphic media. The purpose of this study was to improve students’ learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education through the use of graphic media at MIS Liki Solok Selatan. This study employed classroom action research (CAR) involving 13 sixth-grade students, consisting of 9 male students and 4 female students. The research was conducted in two cycles using graphic media, while data were collected through questionnaires and tests. The results of the study indicated an improvement in students’ motivation and learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education after the implementation of graphic media. This was evidenced by: (1) the average learning outcomes and learning motivation before the use of graphic media were low, with an average learning score of 51.53 and learning motivation score of 44.53, which did not meet the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM); (2) the level of learning mastery increased from 51.53 in the pre-cycle stage to 67.30 in cycle I and further increased to 85 in cycle II; (3) students’ learning motivation improved from an average score of 44.53 before the action to 64.23 in cycle I and significantly increased to 84.38 in cycle II. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of graphic media was effective in significantly improving students’ learning motivation and learning outcomes
PENGEMBANGAN KARAKTER KEMANDIRIAN BERIBADAH ANAK MELALUI DIDIKAN SUBUH DI FORUM KOMUNIKASI DINIYAH TAKMILIYAH (FKDT) KECAMATAN PADANG SELATAN
The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of the Dawn Education program and its role in developing children's religious character and fostering independent religious practice in three Islamic Senior High Schools (MDTA) in South Padang. The study locations were the Syukur Mosque, Mukminin Mosque, and Al-Falah Mosque. The informants were teachers and several students.
This study employed qualitative research methods that emphasize the objectivity of the data. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study concluded that, first, the management of the Dawn Education program to develop children's religious character in the Syukur Mosque, Mukminin Mosque, and Al-Falah Mosque MDTAs has been quite effective in terms of planning, implementation, and evaluation. This was significantly influenced by various aspects, including internal management, the immediate environment outside the MDTAs, and the commitment of the MDTA administrators. Second, the Dawn Education program systematically plays a role in shaping various aspects of independence, including: instilling an understanding of the value of worship, fostering a spirit of worship, instilling time discipline, and instilling awareness of worship. Third, the character of independent worship among children at the MDTA FKDT Padang Selatan is demonstrated through their devotional activities, including congregational prayer and consistent Dhuha prayer, which are grounded in the values of awareness, responsibility, discipline, and motivation. These character traits are highly influential not only in worship but also in other activitie
