Käesolevas töös antakse ülevaade Morani tüüpi evolutsioonimudelitest ning neile vastavate Markovi ahelate omadustest. Lisaks uuritakse mudelitele vastavate Markovi ahelate statsionaarseid jaotuseid ja pööratavust. Töö põhineb peamiselt J. Lemberi ja C. Watkinsi artiklil "An evolutionary model that satisfies detailed balance" ning W. J. Ewens’i raamatul "Mathematical population genetics"

Torakunskapen i kristen religionsundervisning. Ett försök till didaktiskt korrektiv ur ekumenisk synvinkel

In this article, the author problematizes the knowledge of the Torah in Christian religious education, and makes an effort to initiate dialogue from a didactic perspective. Interpretations of what kind of religion Judaism is strengthen certain stereotypes on Jews and Judaism, for example the stereotypical image of a harsh god in the Old Testament. The author suggests that the continuity between the Torah and Christianity should be emphasized in religious education. The presentation of Judaism as a so called law religion is also problematic. Instead, it would be soteriologically correct to point out the covenant prior to the law, and emphasize that Torah came after the covenant

Identification of nine new susceptibility loci for testicular cancer, including variants near DAZL and PRDM14.

Testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT) is the most common cancer in young men and is notable for its high familial risks. So far, six loci associated with TGCT have been reported. From genome-wide association study (GWAS) analysis of 307,291 SNPs in 986 TGCT cases and 4,946 controls, we selected for follow-up 694 SNPs, which we genotyped in a further 1,064 TGCT cases and 10,082 controls from the UK. We identified SNPs at nine new loci (1q22, 1q24.1, 3p24.3, 4q24, 5q31.1, 8q13.3, 16q12.1, 17q22 and 21q22.3) showing association with TGCT (P < 5 × 10(-8)), which together account for an additional 4-6% of the familial risk of TGCT. The loci include genes plausibly related to TGCT development. PRDM14, at 8q13.3, is essential for early germ cell specification, and DAZL, at 3p24.3, is required for the regulation of germ cell development. Furthermore, PITX1, at 5q31.1, regulates TERT expression and is the third TGCT-associated locus implicated in telomerase regulation

Assessing the credibility of COVID-19 vaccine mis/disinformation in online discussion

    No full text
This study examines how the credibility of the content of mis- or disinformation, as well as the believability of authors creating such information is assessed in online discussion. More specifically, the investigation was focused on the credibility of mis- or disinformation about COVID-19 vaccines. To this end, a sample of 1887 messages posted to a Reddit discussion group was scrutinised by means of qualitative content analysis. The findings indicate that in the assessment of the author’s credibility, the most important criteria are his or her reputation, expertise and honesty in argumentation. In the judgement of the credibility of the content of mis/disinformation, objectivity of information and plausibility of arguments are highly important. The findings highlight that in the assessment of the credibility of mis/disinformation, the author’s qualities such as poor reputation, incompetency and dishonesty are particularly significant because they trigger expectancies about how the information content created by the author is judged.Peer reviewe

Network competence and information seeking on the Internet

    No full text
The author reflects the conceptual and practical questions of network competence in the context of information seeking. Network competence is seen as one of the information‐related competences and is defined as the mastery of four major areas: knowledge of information resources available on the Internet, skilled use of the ICT tools to access information, judgment of the relevance of information, and communication. Drawing on the ideas of the social cognitive theory developed by Albert Bandura, a model of network competence is introduced in order to discuss network competence “in action”. In the model, network competence is put in practical context by relating five major factors: network competence, self‐efficacy, outcome expectations, affective factors such as anxiety, and experiences received from information seeking on the Internet. Particular attention is devoted to the connections between network competence and self‐efficacy which denote a person’s judgment of his or her ability to organize and execute action, such as finding information on the Web.</jats:p

Opinnäytetyössä laadittiin toimenpide-ehdotuksia Vähä Mustajärven valuma-alueella, valtion monikäyttömetsään. Kyseinen alue sijaitsee Pirkanmaalla, pääosin Ylöjärven kunnan alueella. Opinnäytetyössä käsitellään vain valtion omistamia monikäyttömetsiä. Työn tilaaja on Metsähallitus Metsätalous Oy, joka hoitaa monikäyttömetsiä. Työssä on laadittu toimenpide-ehdotuksia, joilla pyritään esimerkiksi vähentämään huuhtoumia ja ravinnepäästöjä alapuolisiin vesistöihin. Laaditut toimenpide-ehdotukset ovat pääosin luonnonhoitotöitä, joilla pyritään pienentämään valuma-alueelta tulevaa kuormitusta. Laaditut toimenpiteet eivät ole valmiita suunnitelmia. Luonnonhoitokohteiden maastotarkastukset toteutettiin lokakuussa 2024. Maastotarkastuksilla oli opinnäytetyön tekijän lisäksi mukana Metsähallitus Metsätalouden ympäristöasiantuntija Reijo Hokkanen. This thesis delineates recommendations pertaining to the management of the Vähä Mustajärvi catchment area in state.owned multi-use forests. This specifc geographic region is situated in the Pirkanmaa vicinity, primarily encompassing territory within the municipality of Ylöjärvi. The scope of the thesis is limited to state-owned forest areas designated for multi use purposes. The work was commissioned by Metsähallitus Metsätalous Oy, which manages multi-use forests. The work has prepared proposals for measures that aim, for example, to reduce leaching and nutrient emissions into downstream water bodies. The proposed measures focus mainly on habitat management and related actions intended to decrease the catchments overall environmental load. The recommendations and preliminary in nature and are not intended to serve as complete or finalized design documents, but rather as prosposals to suppot further planning. Field inspections of nature management sites were carried out in October 2024. These inspections were executed by the author in direct collaboration with Mr. Reijo Hokkanen, the Environmental Specialist in Forest economy at Metsähallitus
