Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Biharmonic-Drive Tunable Josephson Diode
The superconducting diode effect has garnered significant interest due to its prospective applications in cryogenic electronics and computing, enabling directional supercurrent transport. This phenomenon has been demonstrated across various superconducting platforms, which typically necessitate unconventional materials with broken spatial symmetries or external magnetic fields, posing scalability and integration challenges. This work introduces an innovative method to realize the superconducting diode effect by disrupting spatiotemporal symmetries in a conventional Josephson junction utilizing a biharmonic alternating-current (AC) drive signal. We achieve wireless modulation of the diode's polarity and efficiency with an antenna. Our findings indicate a diode efficiency reaching the ideal 100% over a broad frequency range, with a temperature resilience of up to 800 mK, and efficient AC signal rectification. This versatile and platform-independent superconducting diode signifies a promising component for advancing future superconducting digital electronics, including efficient logic gates, ultrafast switches, and dynamic half-wave supercurrent rectifiers
The relationship between stress shielding, bone density changes and implant migration, failure and fracture after total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review
Purpose: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) represent a well‐established treatment for advanced osteoarthritis. Despite advancements in implant design and materials, the impact of stress shielding on bone mineral density (BMD) and its relationship with implant migration, loosening, and fracture remains insufficiently explored. This study aims to evaluate the association between stress shielding, BMD changes, and implant outcomes after TKA.
Methods: A systematic review was performed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Four major databases (MEDLINE (PubMed), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Web of Science (WOS), EMBASE) were thoroughly reviewed.
Results: A total of 491 studies were initially identified, of which nine met the inclusion criteria and were included in the final review. Eight were randomised controlled trials, and one was a prospective observational study. All
studies were conducted in clinical settings, comprising a total of 467 patients. BMD variations due to stress shielding were most pronounced during the first 6–12 months postoperatively. However, except for one isolated case, no direct correlation was identified between BMD changes caused by stress shielding and implant migration, loosening or fracture.
Conclusions: This systematic review highlights that variations in bone mineral density due to stress shielding are not directly correlated with implant failure, migration or loosening in TKA. Stress shielding remains a critical phenomenon, particularly in the early postoperative phases, emphasising the importance of optimised materials, fixation methods and implant designs to reduce bone loss and improve long‐term stability. Due toits recognised occurrence in clinical practice, further in vivo studies would contribute to a better understanding of the stress shielding
Giant thermal modulation via a semiconductor-superconductor photonic field-effect heat transistor
We present a groundbreaking demonstration of thermal modulation in a
field-effect-controllable semiconductor-superconductor hybrid structure,
wherein the heating mechanism is exclusively radiative. The architecture
comprises two reservoirs separated by mm and interconnected via a
completely non-galvanic electrical circuit, enabling the transfer of black-body
radiation from the hot to the cold reservoir. Our device utilizes a
superconducting Josephson field-effect transistor to achieve
magnetic-field-free gate-tunable regulation of heat currents within the
circuit. While prior studies have indicated the potential for electrostatic
modulation of thermal transport properties, our framework demonstrates a
temperature modulation of up to mK, exceeding prior findings by more
than an order of magnitude. Furthermore, it proves a thermal transimpedance of
mK/V at a bath temperature of mK. The development of such
systems holds substantial promise for advancing heat management and routing in
quantum chips and radiation sensors, as it enables precise nonlocal control of
heat flow towards a designated structure, even when the heat source is distant
and non-galvanically coupled

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
