Motion detection technology as a tool for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) quality improvement
The most popular method of training in basic life support and AED remains instructor-led training courses. Recent reviews provide good evidence to support alternative methods of training including lay instructors, self-directed learning (web, video, poster) and CPR feedback/prompt devices
Assessment of Actuator Line and Rotor Disk as Alternative Approaches for the Numerical Simulation of Rotating Wheels
Wheel and wheelhouses contribute up to 20-30% of the aerodynamic drag of passenger cars. Simulating the flow field around wheels is challenging due to the complexity of the flow structures generated by tires and rims, wheel rotation, tire deformation and contact with the ground. High accuracy is usually obtained with transient simulations that treat rim rotation with the Sliding Mesh (SM) approach, which is also computationally expensive. Previous studies have confirmed that the application of a tangential velocity component to the rim surface is unphysical for open rims, while a Moving Reference Frame (MRF) is lacking accuracy and the averaged results depend on the initial spokes position. These methods do not consider the dynamic nature of the problem. This work proposes the use of the Actuator Line (AL) and Rotor Disk (RD) approaches as alternatives for simulating open rims with much lower computational cost. They are based on the introduction of volume forces to resemble the presence of the spokes and require a preliminary aerodynamic characterization of the body. The new methods are compared to SM, Rotating Wall Boundary Condition (RWBC) and MRF applied to an isolated rotating wheel case. A good agreement is observed for the most relevant flow features, with consistent reductions in computational cost. Specifically, AL keeps the transient features of the problem, while RD provides a much less expensive steady-state solution. As a result, both AL and RD are promising alternatives for the simulation of rotating wheels
Preparation of a set of 4,5-dihydro-3H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-ones as potential Hsp90 ligands
A synthetic route for the preparation of 4,5-dihydro-3H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-ones characterized by a decorated benzyl moiety at different positions of the five-membered ring has been developed, and some compounds have been tested as Hsp90 ligands. One of them displayed IC50 = 50 μM representing an interesting starting point for further investigations. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Between human and AI: assessing the reliability of AI text detection tools
Objective: Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT-4 have raised critical questions regarding their distinguishability from human-generated content. In this research, we evaluated the effectiveness of online detection tools in identifying ChatGPT-4 vs human-written text. Methods: A two texts produced by ChatGPT-4 using differing prompts and one text created by a human author were analytically assessed using the following online detection tools: GPTZero, ZeroGPT, Writer ACD, and Originality. Results: The findings revealed a notable variance in the detection capabilities of the employed detection tools. GPTZero and ZeroGPT exhibited inconsistent assessments regarding the AI-origin of the texts. Writer ACD predominantly identified texts as human-written, whereas Originality consistently recognized the AI-generated content in both samples from ChatGPT-4. This highlights Originality's enhanced sensitivity to patterns characteristic of AI-generated text. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that while automatic detection tools may discern texts generated by ChatGPT-4 significant variability exists in their accuracy. Undoubtedly, there is an urgent need for advanced detection tools to ensure the authenticity and integrity of content, especially in scientific and academic research. However, our findings underscore an urgent need for more refined detection methodologies to prevent the misdetection of human-written content as AI-generated and vice versa
Entropy production of active Brownian particles going from liquid to hexatic and solid phases
Due to its inherent intertwinement with irreversibility, entropy production is a prime observable to monitor in systems of active particles. In this numerical study, entropy production in the liquid, hexatic and solid phases of a two-dimensional system of active Brownian particles is examined at both average and fluctuation level. The trends of averages as functions of density show no singularity and marked changes in their derivatives at the hexatic-solid transition. Distributions show instead peculiar tail structures interpreted by looking at microscopic configurations. Particles in regions of low local order generate tail values according to different dynamical mechanisms: they move towards empty regions or bounce back and forth into close neighbours. The tail structures are reproduced by a simple single-particle model including an intermittent harmonic potential
Practical synthesis of novel purine analogues as Hsp90 inhibitors.
The development of a straightforward synthesis of 4-amino-6-benzyl-6H-pyrrolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine and 7-amino-2-benzyl-2H-pyrazolo[4,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives allowed for the preparation of a small family of potential Hsp90 inhibitors. Some of the newly synthesized compounds showed Hsp90 inhibitory activity in preliminary biological assays

Anna Hospital, Brescia, Italy; 3Eye Clinic, Department of Health Sciences, University of Molise, Campobasso, ItalyAbstract: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis-related uveitis is the most common type of uveitis in childhood and one of the main causes of visual impairment in children. The introduction of biological treatment has widened the range of therapeutic options for children with uveitis refractory to standard nonbiologic immunosuppressants. Data from clinical trials suggest that both adalimumab and infliximab have demonstrated effectiveness and safety in open-label studies, although no large, randomized, controlled trials have been reported so far. The role of etanercept in treating juvenile idiopathic arthritis-related uveitis is not yet well defined. In our experience, anti-tumor necrosis factor therapy has been shown to be more effective than steroids and/or methotrexate in treating uveitis. Up to now, tumor necrosis factor blocking compounds have been reserved for the treatment of the most severe cases of refractory uveitis, and larger prospective clinical trials are required in order to better assess the safety of these new compounds. Keywords: adalimumab, etanercept, inflixima
