Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Geschlechtsinkongruenz ist charakterisiert durch eine mangelnde Übereinstimmung zwischen Gender, also der Geschlechtsidentität, und dem zugeordneten/eingetragenen Geschlecht, die zu dem Wunsch führt, in der Geschlechtsidentität zu leben und akzeptiert zu werden. Die gegengeschlechtliche Hormontherapie Frau-zu-Mann fungiert dabei als eine der wichtigsten Therapiesäulen für Trans-Männer. Diese soll die sekundären Geschlechtsmerkmale der Geschlechtsidentität anpassen und zu einer verbesserten Lebensqualität der Patienten führen. Die Auswirkungen der Testosterontherapie sind multifaktoriell und können Laborparameter, dabei vor allem das rote Blutbild, beeinflussen.
Ziel
Ziel der vorliegenden Studie ist, die Auswirkungen der gegengeschlechtlichen Hormontherapie Frau-zu-Mann auf das rote Blutbild, die Leberfunktionsparameter und den endogenen Hormonhaushalt von Trans-Männern zu untersuchen, und somit Risiken und Auswirkungen der Testosteroneinnahme besser einschätzen zu können.
Methodik
Bei dieser Studie handelt es sich um eine retrospektive, monozentrische, klinische Kohortenstudie. Es wurden alle Trans-Männer über 18 und unter 99 Jahren der Transgender-Ambulanz des AKH Wien, die zwischen 2000 und 2019 Erstvorstellung hatten und ein Basislabor vor Beginn der gegengeschlechtlichen Hormontherapie und ein Kontrolllabor 3 bis 5 Monate nach Testosteronbeginn haben, inkludiert. Als Hauptzielparameter wurde Hämatokrit festgelegt, als Nebenzielparameter wurden Hämoglobin, Erythrozyten, Thrombozyten, Leukozyten, GOT, GPT, GGT, LDH, alkalische Phosphatase, bioverfügbares und Gesamttestosteron, bioverfügbares und Gesamtöstrogen, SHBG, FSH, LH, Alter und BMI festgelegt. Haupt-und Nebenzielparameter wurden mittels gepaartem t-Test auf Signifikanz geprüft und Einflussfaktoren auf den Hauptzielparameter Hämatokrit mittels generalisiertem linearen Modell eruiert.
Ergebnisse
Insgesamt konnten 191 Trans-Männer in die Studie inkludiert werden. Das mittlere Alter des Studienkollektivs zu Beginn der Hormontherapie beträgt rund 26 7,7 Jahre. Der durchschnittliche BMI beträgt 25,2 6,8 kg/m 2. Der mittlere Abstand zwischen Basislabor und Kontrolllabor beträgt rund 177 108,2 Tage. Der Hauptzielparameter Hämatokrit hat einen p-Wert von < 0,01 und ist somit signifikant unterschiedlich vor und nach Hormontherapie. Nebenzielparameter mit einem signifikanten p-Wert kleiner oder gleich 0,05 sind: Hämoglobin mit p < 0,01; Erythrozyten mit p< 0,01; Leukozyten mit p = 0,03; alkalische Phosphatase mit p = 0,003; bioverfügbares Östrogen mit p = 0,047; Östrogen mit p < 0,01; bioverfügbares Testosteron mit p < 0,01; Testosteron mit p < 0,01; SHBG mit p < 0,01 und LH mit p = 0,001. Keinen signifikanten Unterschied vor und nach gegengeschlechtlicher Hormontherapie weisen Thrombozyten, GPT, GGT und LDH auf. Von allen getesteten, möglichen Einflussfaktoren ist nur das Delta-Testosteron mit einer Wald-Prüfgröße von 6,199 und einem p-Wert von p = 0,013 signifikant und besitzt einen Regressionskoeffizient ß von 0,313 mit einem Standardfehler von 0,1259.
Schlussfolgerung
Die gegengeschlechtliche Hormontherapie Frau-zu-Mann führt zu signifikanten Veränderungen von Laborparametern. Vor allem Parameter des roten Blutbilds wie Hämatokrit oder Hämoglobin werden beeinflusst. Bei 3 Patienten konnte die Entwicklung einer Polyzythämie beobachtet werden, bei der physiologische, männliche Obergrenzen von Hämatokrit und Hämoglobin überschritten werden.Introduction
Gender incongruence describes a condition where ones gender is incongruent to the sex. Cross sex hormone therapy is one of the most important treatment options of gender incongruence. Female-to-male cross sex homone therapy can effect the hemogram and other laboratory parameters.
Aim
The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of female-to-male cross sex hormone therapy on blood count, liver function parameters and the hormone balance of trans-men to assess risks and consequences of testosterone treatment.
Methods
This study is a retrospective monocentric clinical cohort study. It includes all trans-men between 18 and 99 years who received cross sex hormone therapy for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 months and who have a full blood count before and after they started hormone treatment at the General Hospital in Vienna. The trials primary endpoint is hematocrit and the trialss secondary endpoints are hemoglobin, erythrocytes, platelets, leukocytes, ALAT, ASAT, GGT, LDH, alkaline phosphatase, total and bio-available testosterone and estrogen, SHBG, FSH, LH, age and BMI. The comparison between the parameters before and after cross sex hormone therapy was performed with the paired t-test and linear regression was used to evaluate influencing factors on the primary endpoint hematocrit.
Results
This trial includes a total of 191 trans-men. In the average the patients were 26 7,7 years of age. The mean BMI was 25,2 6,8kg/m 2 and the mean time between the measurements was 177 108,2 days. The primary endpoint hematocrit changed significantly between the two measurements (p < 0,01). Some secondary endpoints also show a statistically significant change: hemoglobin (p < 0,01), erythrocytes (p< 0,01), leukocytes (p = 0,03), alkaline phosphatase (p = 0,003), bio-available estrogen (p = 0,047), estrogen (p < 0,01), bio-available testosterone (p < 0,01), testosterone (p < 0,01), SHBG (p < 0,01) and LH (p = 0,001). There had been no significant changes in platelets, ALAT, ASAT ans LDH. Delta-testosterone ist the only statistically significant influencing factor of hematorcrit (Wald-Chi = 6,199; p = 0,013).
Conclusion
Female-to-male cross sex hormone therapy causes statistically significant changes in various laboratory parameters. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
