    Franklin D. Selvy, Class of 1954, pictured in suit and tie. He was a member of the Furman University Purple Paladins basketball team from 1951-1954 and holds the NCAA Division I record for highest number of points scored in one game, scoring 100 points against Newberry College on February 13, 1954. Also in 1954 he captained both the Associated Press and United Press All-American teams and earned NCAA Player of the Year honors. He was inducted into the Furman Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981 and is a Charter Member of the Furman University Hall of Fame

    The work of Selva Almada (Entre Ríos, Argentina, 1973) appears in tune with two tendencies of current Latin American literature inventoried by critics: the invention of peripheral spaces in forgotten provinces in response to processes of deterritorialization and transnationalization; and the creation of intimate microworlds that insist on the construction of subjective identities, often adopting a view from childhood. The ability of her work to bind together these trends rests on an element that acts as pivot and narrative core and that is at the center of our analysis, namely, the different shapes of violence that run through her stories: the recurring theme of death, the silent and internalized aggressiveness, the gender violence, and the violent inscription of language. All these modes design a particular topology of violence that becomes the most significant feature of her narrative and that gives it its special relevance to think our present. Departing from some current reflections on violence, this article deals with the shapes it acquires in the Almada’s work published until today.Dzieło Selvy Almady (Entre Ríos, Argentyna, 1973) zgodne jest z dwoma tendencjami charakterystycznymi dla współczesnej literatury latynoamerykańskiej: z odkryciem przestrzeni peryferyjnych w zapomnianych prowincjach w odpowiedzi na procesy deterytorializacji i transnarodowości, z jednej strony; oraz z tworzeniem intymnych mikroświatów, które domagają się konstruowania subiektywnych tożsamości, często sięgających do dzieciństwa, z drugiej. Wokół tych elementów obecnych w opowiadaniach i powieściach Almady zogniskowana jest narracja. W centrum jej analizy znajdują się rożne przejawy przemocy. Przemoc u Almady jest wszechobecna: powracającym tematem jest śmierć, agresja, przemoc wobec kobiet i zbrutalizowany język. I właśnie ta przemoc w jej różnych obliczach, stanowiąca najważniejszą cechę utworów Selvy Almady staje się przedmiotem analizy prezentowanego artykułu

Judul: Keberadaan Coffee Shop di Kalangan Mahasiswa Kota Padang(Studi Kasus: Pengunjung Rimbun Espresso Brew & Bar dan Sukokopi). Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang perubahan makna tempat dari sebuah coffee shop, yang tidak hanya sebagai tempat untuk mendapatkan produk berupa minuman, namun juga tempat yang dapat ditemukannya sebua kebahagiaan, kepuasan dan nilai di kalangan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak dari coffee shop sebagai indikator terbentuknya gaya hidup. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data observasi, dan studi kepustakaan. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara pada 20 orang informan pengunjung coffee shop. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keberadaan coffee shop di kota Padang tidak lagi hanya tempat untuk memenuhi kebutuhan biologis untuk mendapatkan kopi, namun juga sebagai tempat untuk mengekspresikan diri baik secara personal maupun kelompok-kelompok sosial mahasiswa .     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
