Cryoglobulins and Cryoglobulins Secondary to Hepatitis C Virus Infection

The term cryoglobulinemia refers to the presence in the serum of one (monoclonal cryoimmunoglobulinemia) or more immunoglobulins (mixed cryoglobulinemia, MC), which precipitate at temperatures below 37 °C and redissolve on rewarming; this is an in vitro phenomenon. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Cryoglobulinemic Vasculitis

Cryoglobulinemic vasculitis, also termed mixed cryoglobulinemic syndrome, is a rare systemic small vessel vasculitis due to the vascular deposition of immune- complexes, mainly mixed IgG-IgM cryoglobulins. It is associated with hepatitis C virus infection, immunological, and neoplastic diseases. Cryoglobulinemic vasculitis is characterized by the classical triad of purpura, weakness and arthralgia, frequent multiple organ involvement, and with infrequent late lymphatic and hepatic malignancies. The etiopathogenesis of cryoglobulinemic vasculitis is not completely understood. However, hepatitis C viral infection and associated lymphotropism, genetic and environmental factors play important roles in cryoglobulin and immune-complex production that deposit in blood vessels, and in B-lymphocyte expansion. The diagnosis is suggested by clinical evidence of purpura, circulating mixed cryoglobulinemia and low C4 levels, and pathologically evident leukocytoclastic vasculitis in skin biopsy lesions. The prognosis is poor in patients with renal disease, liver failure, and malignancy. Treatment is directed toward eradicating hepatitis C viral infection employing combination PEGylated- interferon-alpha and ribavirin treatment, immunomodulatory and immunosuppressant medications as warranted by the level of clinical severity

Cognitive technologies as boundary objects in digital place

Boundary objects consist of devices, artifacts, and images that support the construction of meaning by different actors (Carlile, 2002, 2004). By acting and interacting, people even transform subjective meanings into artifacts, assigning meaning to reality, and thereby constructing it. Boundary objects translate, coordinate, and align the perspectives of different parties (Klimbe et al., 2010), but with their plasticity, they remain both adaptable to local needs and robust enough to maintain a common identity across different uses (Mele, Sebastiani and Corsaro, 2018). This paper explores the role of cognitive technologies as boundary objects in digital space. An interactive, qualitative, case-study approach is adopted to gain insights into the phenomena described. Starting from the idea that social construction and sensemaking process that transform spaces and create a “sense of place” (Parsons et al., 2017: 143), we show the way cognitive technologies perform inmost cases as boundary objects enacting actors’ interactions and sensemaking in digital space

Service innovation has been often conceptualized as a linear multi-stage development process within a main innovator system. In this logic, innovation is communicated through certain channels over time and adopters play a key role in the process of innovation diffusion. This study moves away from this conceptualization and proposes service innovation diffusion as an emergent process of co-construction and sense-making by companies, customers and other partners. Such actors enact practices by interacting and integrating resources in a social, economic and cultural context. In particular, thanks to the analysis of 10 case studies we identify specific practices of service innovation diffusion in which actors make sense and share meanings about the newness, both individually and collec-tively. They are enabling confidence on service innovation, creating shared meanings among actors, and leveraging on actors’ competen-cies. The study also shows the dual role of users which can act both, and simultaneously, as adopters and rejectors

    Business Interaction in S-D Logic

    No full text
Purpose – This paper is aimed at integrating literature on S-D L with the interaction approach by IMP, in order to elaborate a model for representing business interaction in S-D Logic. A particular attention is devoted to the interactive and networked nature of value creation (Gummesson, 2006; Vargo & Lusch, 2008; Cova & Salle, 2008) and to the pivotal role of interactions in reciprocal value-creating processes (Gronroos, 2007; Gronroos & Ravald, 2009). Methodology/approach – Empirically we investigate the Edenred case, the global leader in the meal vouchers service. Edenred expertise in delivering end-to-end solutions for rewards, compensations, incentives, assistance and loyalty programs for employers and citizens is widely recognized worldwide. Through a longitudinal study of Edenred, we focus how actors, activities and resources evolved through the years and identify the main implications in terms of business interaction features according to a service-centered logic. Findings – Results of our study shows that combining recent advancements in the service-centered logic of marketing with the interaction model developed in the industrial network framework (Hakansson et al., 2009), provide a further understanding of interaction processes in service networks. In particular, the case study shows that when the model is applied to a service network context, new dimensions emerge, offering further specifications of the ones presented in the IMP interaction model . Research implications – The study both contributes to literature on service networks (Ford et al., 2009) and on business interaction according to the industrial network approach, especially considering that the interaction model has been mainly derived from observations of relationships between manufacturing firms. Practical implications – In-depth understanding of the features of interaction processes in time and space could support managers in identifying the critical areas for value creation, and how these areas are interrelated to each other. This knowledge, in turn, could reduce helps at exploiting synergies and interdependences between the different elements that compose interaction processes. Moreover, realizing how interactions occur could also help managers in individuating potential areas of innovation and the extended effects that can be generated by investing in them. Originality/value – Important changes in the market require in-depth understanding of the process of interaction in service networks even more stringent. Therefore the integration of two streams of research, S-D Logic and IMP approach, on a specific model (the business interaction model) represents the original contribution of the paper
