Edificio de oficinas mixtas: coworking y convencionales en San Isidro

    No full text
Submitted by Hidalgo Alvarez Jofre ([email protected]) on 2020-11-22T22:43:06Z No. of bitstreams: 1 ARQ-T030_47475155_T SEBASTIAN ELÍAS SOSA LÓPEZ.pdf: 11395426 bytes, checksum: 82b27d12eacd0b6b6cc67fdbd128725d (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2020-11-22T22:43:06Z (GMT). An Estimation of CPI Biases in Argentina 1985-2005, and its Implications on Real Income Growth and Income Distribution

    No full text
We use the shifts in Engel curves estimated from household surveys to estimate CPI biases in Argentina between 1985 and 2005. We find that real earning levels increased during this period between 4.3 and 5.7% faster per year than previously estimated. More surprisingly, relative to conventional wisdom, that income distribution has improved throughout this period.

Modeling Informality Formally: Households and Firms

    No full text
Informality is widespread in most developing countries. In Latin America, 50 percent of salaried employees work informally. Three stylized facts characterize informality: 1) small firms tend to operate informally while large firms tend to operate formally; 2) unskilled workers tend to be informal while skilled ones have formal jobs; 3) Ceteris paribus, secondary workers are less likely to operate formally than primary workers. We develop a model that account for all these facts. In our model both heterogeneous firms and workers have preferences over the sector they operate and choose optimally whether to function formally or informally. There are two labor markets, one formal and the other informal, and both firms and workers act unconstrained in them. By contrast, a prominent feature of the pre-existing literature is the idea that worker’s decisions play no role in determining the equilibrium of the economy. Using our model, we show that an increase in the participation of secondary workers would tend to raise the level of informality in the economy. This effect partially accounts for the increases in informality seen in Latin America over the past two decades.

Development of sigmoidal en-échelon microfractures in beryl and the role of strain localization evidenced by fluid inclusions

    No full text
A combined fluid inclusion and microstructural study was carried out in beryl crystals from the San Cayetano Nb-Ta-bearing pegmatite (San Luis, Argentina). Primary aqueous-carbonic fluids (T0) were subsequently re-trapped during shearing, resulting in en-échelon microfractures. The more brittle behaviour of beryl compared to quartz makes this mineral more suitable for the preservation of fluid inclusions and microstructures. The primary inclusions T0 are preserved in strain-free domains, whereas the pseudo-secondary T1-to T3-type inclusions occur in domains showing intracrystalline deformation. CO2 was relatively immobile or reacted to form carbonate in early T1-type inclusions, whereas H2O preferentially migrated along microfractures and was trapped as T2-and T3-type inclusions. Short intragranular trails of fluid inclusions, representing en-échelon healed microfractures, resulted from progressive strain localization. Contrary to previous proposals, this new model implies the progressive thickness reduction of intracrystalline micro-shear zones. Besides, hydrolytic weakening linked to dislocation glide is the most likely mechanism to explain the evolution of fluid inclusions, with intracrystalline deformation enhancing anisotropic diffusion. This study highlights the potential of combined fluid inclusion and microstructural studies in order to understand the interaction between fluid activity and deformation. In this way, valuable insights can be provided into the progressive development of overprinted fabrics and low-to medium-temperature deformation mechanisms of minerals.Fil: Sosa, Graciela M.. Coming to Trans/Writing: Camila Sosa Villada’s Transvestite Autobiographical Narrative

    No full text
Trans/escritura (2018) by Camila Sosa Villada, Argentine transvestite, playwright and writer, is an autobiographical essay in which the memories of the child who was Camila and a lower class family genealogy are traced to shed light on becoming an author and becoming a transvestite, as two parallel and closely related processes. My goal is to investigate how the subjective experience of a queer childhood and a trans femininity is articulated through the recovered biographical episodes. For this, I analyze how Sosa Villada conceives her own coming to trans/writing, the genesis of her literary work and what is the family album in which she recognizes her lineage as a writer. My hypothesis is that this work sets an initial milestone in what could become a Spanish-American tradition of reflection and debate on “transvestite writing”

SME Access to Credit in Guatemala and Nicaragua: Challenging Conventional Wisdom with New Evidence

    No full text
This paper develops a conceptual framework and offers new statistical evidence on the access to credit by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Guatemala and Nicaragua. To this end, and after reviewing the existing literature on the topic, it produces new empirical evidence drawn from the official Household Survey and the World Bank’s Investment Climate Survey, conducted in both countries in 2006. The core contribution of the paper lies in the critical revision of three pieces of common knowledge, namely: (1) A large fraction of MSMEs has an excess demand for credit; (2) In the presence of credit market failures, governments must and actually do assist MSMEs in gaining access to loan facilities; and (3) Alternative credit instruments, such as leasing, factoring, microcredit, and third-party guarantee schemes, can be a suitable and massive solution for the lack of financing. Our analysis refutes to a large extent these assertions and advances some basic policy prescriptions that should help improve the resource allocation and impact of specific MSME financial programs.
