Ein Atlas zur Unterscheidung von Korruptionsformen

    No full text

    Karel Huss and Superstition

    No full text
The aim of this thesis is to appropriately interpret the text of the manuscript Vom Aberglauben and categorize it within the cultural-historical context of its time. Although some popularizing- stylized papers have already discussed the story and legacy of its author, Karel Huss, the last executioner of the city of Cheb, they have not sufficiently captured Huss's personal traits and subjectivity in perceiving superstitions, that gave rise to prejudices, which Huss grappled with throughout his life. The interpretation is based on a literary analysis of Huss's poetry and the manuscript Vom Aberglauben, by considering its then historical reality. Through the agency of that this thesis contributes to enriching the discourse because, so far, the analysis of Huss's poetic output has been entirely neglected and regarding the manuscript about superstitions, researchers have limited themselves to general statements, which, despite being indisputable, reveal only little about Huss's relationship with superstitions, magic, and folk religion. Moreover, in the story of Karel Huss (1761-1838), "grand" historical decisions overlap with every day's history, social history with art, old feudal orders with modernization tendencies, the general with the unique and various cultural trends, which Huss managed to reflect

Institute of Czech HistoryÚstav českých dějinFaculty of ArtsFilozofická fakult

High-resolution melting analysis is a sensitive diagnostic tool to detect imatinib-resistant and imatinib-sensitive PDGFRA exon 18 mutations in gastrointestinal stromal tumors

    No full text
The mutational status of KIT and PDGFRA is highly relevant for prognosis and therapy prediction in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). PDGFRA exon 18 mutations have direct therapeutic implications since it is crucial to distinguish mutations associated with sensitivity to tyrosine kinase inhibitors from those causing primary resistance, eg, the most common exon 18 mutation p.D842V. In response to a growing demand for reliable, faster and more sensitive methods we established and validated a high-resolution melting (BRM) assay for PDGFRA exon 18. A total of 159 GIST samples were comparatively analyzed by FIRM and direct Sanger sequencing. We demonstrate that BRM provides highly reliable mutational results with higher sensitivity and shorter time to diagnosis compared to Sanger sequencing. We determined the sensitivity threshold of FIRM at 6% of mutated alleles. PDGFRA exon 18 wild-type status and the most common p.D842V resistance mutation (together representing >90% of the cases) can be detected specifically by FIRM. Other rare mutations can be pre-screened by FIRM and afterwards determined precisely by DNA sequencing. In this way we detected four novel mutations in PDGFRA exon 18, two of which were associated with an aggressive clinical course. Including these new mutations, we provide a comprehensive overview of all 60 currently known subtypes of PDGFRA exon 18 mutations in GIST. Seven of them (accounting for about 75% of all exon 18-mutated GISTs) are reported to be resistant to imatinib. However, there are at least 10 other mutations which are regarded as sensitive to tyrosine kinase inhibitors. (C) 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.Novartis Oncolog

Researching Creations: Applying Arts-Based Research to Bedouin Women's Drawings Ephrat Huss and Julie Cwikel

    No full text
In this article, the author examines the combination of arts-based research and art therapy within Bedouin women's empowerment groups. The art fulfills a double role within the group of both helping to illuminate the women's self-defined concerns and goals, and simultaneously enriching and moving these goals forward. This creates a research tool that adheres to the feminist principles of finding new ways to learn from lower income women from a different culture, together with creating a research context that is of direct potential benefit and enrichment for the women. The author, through examples of the use of art within lower income Bedouin women's groups, examines the theoretical connection between arts-based research and art therapy, two areas that often overlap but whose connection has not been addressed theoretically

This self-contained guide enables researchers to examine differential expression at gene, exon, and transcript level and to discover novel genes, transcripts, and whole transcriptomes. Each chapter starts with theoretical background, followed by descriptions of relevant analysis tools. The book also provides examples using command line tools and the R statistical environment. For non-programming scientists, the same examples are covered using open source software with a graphical user interface"-- Provided by publisher

The Tender Translator:Olga Tokarczuk Across Languages

How does the multilingual and multicultural writing of a ‘minor’ author, who went global almost overnight, travel in translation? The prose of Olga Tokarczuk (b. 1962), a contemporary Polish writer and the 2018 Nobel Prize winner, has reached international audiences thanks to the heroic work of multiple translators into many languages. These ‘tender translators’ are especially attuned to the issues of borderlands, multilingualism, and intercultural negotiations in her work, while also remaining entangled in the politics of publishing and marketing a lesser‑known literary culture for their local readerships. In order to reveal all these different modes of thinking and writing about translation, this collection brings together both theorists and practitioners of translation based in at least ten different countries and on four continents, including Olga Tokarczuk herself as well as her own translators into multiple languages.Kasia Szymanska, Lecturer at the Centre of Translation and Intercultural Studies at the University of Manchester and author of Translation Multiples: From Global Culture to Post-Communist Democracy (Princeton, forthcoming).Joanna Trzeciak Huss, Professor of Russian and Polish Translation and Translation Studies at Kent State University, editor of a special issue of The Polish Review devoted to Olga Tokarczuk and award-winning translator of Polish literature

Expression von Prostataspezifischem Membran-Antigen (PSMA) in tumorassoziierten Gefäßen beim Synovialsarkom

    No full text
