Full text linkAbstract We analyse the development of world records speed skating from 1893 to 2000 for both men and women. The historical data show that it is likely that the relation between skating speed and distance of the various events is non-linear and converges to a limit value. We pay special attention to technical innovations in speed skating, especially, the introduction of the klapskate in the 1996/1997 season, and its impact on the long-run limit value. We focus on endurance and we estimate lower bounds for world records given the current technological state of the art.

Information and endogenous delegation in a rent-seeking contest
Full text linkWe offer a new explanation for the occurrence of delegation in rent-seeking contests. We consider a two-player contest for a prize of common value. The players only know that the prize is high or low, with given probabilities. Each player can hire a delegate to act on his behalf. After a delegate is hired, she privately observes the true value of the prize. We derive the conditions under which, respectively, no player, only one player, or both players delegate in equilibrium. First, we investigate and develop methods that can be used in order to find characteristics and an interpretation in economic theoretical terms of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors that are associated with linear macroeconometric models. Special attention will be given to the stability properties of such models. Second, we apply these methods to a number of typical (Keynesian) macroeconometric models. In particular, we analyse the Grecon model, a model describing the Dutch post-war economy. ...

No full textBackground: Skin adnexal neoplasms of the vulva are uncommon, and malignant adnexal neoplasms of the vulva are rare. Case: A case of syringomatous eccrine carcinoma arising in the perineum is presented, and the literature reviewed. Conclusions: Non-squamous malignancy of the vulva should be considered.
