Comparison of Various Aircraft Routing Strategies Using the Air Traffic Simulation Model AirTraf 2.0
No full textA climate-optimized routing is expected as an operational measure to reduce the climate impact of aviation, whereas this routing causes extra aircraft operating costs. This study performs some air traffic simulations of nine aircraft routing strategies which include the climate-optimized routing, and examines characteristics of those routings. A total of 103 trans-Atlantic flights of an Airbus A330 is simulated for five weather types in winter and for three types in summer over the North Atlantic by using the chemistry-climate model EMAC with the air traffic simulation submodel AirTraf. For every weather type, the climate-optimized routing shows the minimum climate impact, whereas a trade-off exists between the costs and the climate impact. The cost-optimized routing lies between time- and fuel-optimized routings, and minimizes the costs. The aircraft routing for minimum contrail formation shows the second-lowest climate impact, whereas this routing also causes extra costs

applied to semi-discrete PDEs. For a known two-stage Patankar-type scheme the
local error in PDE sense for linear advection or diffusion is shown to be of
the maximal order for sufficiently smooth and positive
exact solutions. However, in a test case mimicking a wetting-drying situation
as in the context of shallow-water flows, this scheme yields large errors in
the drying region. A more realistic approximation is obtained by a modification
of the Patankar approach incorporating an explicit testing stage into the
implicit trapezoidal rule

Verification of the ozone algorithmic climate change functions for predicting the short-term NOx effects from aviation en-route
No full textFor the first time, the algorithmic Climate Change Functions (aCCFs) for ozone, methane, water vapor, and persistent contrails have been developed within the ATM4E project to provide information on the climate sensitive regions, which can be conveniently implemented for the climate based flight routing. These aCCFs need to be verified before they are implemented. In this paper, we focus on the verification of the ozone aCCFs to enable the prediction of the short-term NOx effects from aviation en-route. The verification is conducted from two aspects. Firstly, the climatology of the ozone aCCFs is calculated based on a one-year simulation and verified by the existing literature. Lone mothers' participation in labor market programs for means-tested benefit recipients in Germany
No full text"This paper examines participation in labor market programs such as job subsidies, workfare, and training programs by lone mothers receiving means-tested unemployment benefits in Germany. Since the 2005 Hartz IV labor market policy reforms, expectations that non-employed parents responsible for caring for young children should be ready for employment or labor market program participation have grown stronger. However, discretion for program assignments is left to individual case managers in employment offices. Thus, lone mothers' participation in labor market programs is studied empirically here. This can contribute to determining the extent to which lone mothers are treated as adult workers in interactions with welfare state institutions in Germany. Entries into labor market programs are analyzed on the basis of large-scale administrative data using event-history analysis. Findings are that lone mothers' participation rates in workfare programs and class-room training programs closely approach or even surpass those of single childless women by the time their youngest child is 3 - 5 years old. In the case of programs that give more direct support for entering regular employment, like job subsidies and in-firm training programs, however, lone mothers' participation rates do not reach those of childless single women until their children are 6 - 9 or even 15 - 17 years old." The infection can be life threatening and require intensive care treatment. The transmission of the disease poses a risk to both patients and healthcare workers. The number of patients requiring hospital admission and intensive care may overwhelm health systems and negatively affect standard care for patients presenting with conditions needing emergency interventions. This position statements aims to assist cardiologists in the invasive management of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, we assembled a panel of interventional cardiologists and acute cardiac care specialists appointed by the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) and from the Acute Cardiovascular Care Association (ACVC) and included the experience from the first and worst affected areas in Europe. Modified diagnostic and treatment algorithms are proposed to adapt evidence-based protocols for this unprecedented challenge. Various clinical scenarios, as well as management algorithms for patients with a diagnosed or suspected COVID-19 infection, presenting with ST- and non-ST-segment elevation ACS are described. In addition, we address the need for re-organization of ACS networks, with redistribution of hub and spoke hospitals, as well as for in-hospital reorganization of emergency rooms and cardiac units, with examples coming from multiple European countries. Furthermore, we provide a guidance to reorganization of catheterization laboratories and, importantly, measures for protection of healthcare providers involved with invasive procedures
