His figure has a continental impact. His life and terrible death give an example. His political career, his peculiar personality, his original ideas are the object of study of this text. I was compeled to write this text after Reading valuable documents about this character in the mexican archives, country where he passed an important part of his life. This documents reveal moments in his history that where out of the attention of other biographers of Hinojosa.</p

Fil: Belkin, Alejandro Marcelo. The documents gathered here address concerns stemming from the extensive field of studies on the history of Popular Unity, the transnational history of Chilean politics, and the history of the Latin American Cold War. Each field has its own framework, and the documents can be read from these perspectives, with divergent ends. Fascinating traces of the past emerge from conversations such as the one Luis Corvalán held with the Soviet ambassador on August 8, 1973 (document 126), in the midst of an acute political, social, and economic crisis. Corvalán, there, accuses the Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Carlos Altamirano, of having proposed a "self-coup" as a solution to the current political dilemma, something completely ruled out by his communist allies, as well as by Allende himself. Corvalán, in fact, feared for the unity of his allies given the possibility of a split with the president given the magnitude of their differences. The conversation with the Soviet ambassador means different things, depending on the questions: it describes the desperate situation of the last days of Chilean democracy, the contradictions that this situation had exacerbated within the Unidad Popular, the relationships of trust between the general secretary of the Communist Party and the Soviet ambassador, and finally, the set of circumstances that led to the most relevant Chilean event with the greatest global impact of the 20th century: the coup that would destroy Chilean democracy and socialism and install that brutal dictatorship that, without time having completely blurred, is still present in today's Chile (from the prologue by Marcelo Casals)

    No full text
With the expansion of the communist movement, various currents of dissent appeared in many cases causing schisms in international communism at national and international level. One of the most notable ruptures was the separation of Trotskyism that sheltered diverse groups, heterogeneous ideologically and politically. In Chile, the greatest for its historical importance the dissidence in communism, hidalguism, after several attempts to demonstrate its loyalty to the Comintern, was embraced by international Trotskyism seeing in this a strong and potentially hegemonic party in this country, although worried its eventual doctrinal inconsistency. The relations of the “Left Communist” party with the International Secretariat reveal to us the ambiguous position of Chileans towards the formation of the Fourth International and their perseverance in making independent political decisions.

The Bolivian Falange. The Story of the Collapse of a Right-Wing Utopia

Since the 30s of the XX-th century. in Bolivia, there has been the formation of political forces that will become dominant in Bolivian politics throughout the XX-th century. we are talking about revolutionary nationalism, Indeanism, Marxism and right-wing radicalism of the Spanish type, represented by the Bolivian Socialist Falange party. This article is devoted to the study of the ideology and political practice of the Falange. A feature of the Bolivian phalanx was an attempt to apply right-wing radical views of the philo-fascist type in a country where the Indian population predominated, opposing hispanism and clericalism to Indian nationalism, painted in nationalist and anti-imperialist tones. In addition to putschist political practices, violence and anti-communism, the Bolivian phalanx was distinguished by anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist aspirations, building its own right-wing radical social utopia. This party played an important role in Bolivian politics in the 40-60s of the twentieth century, and then became the basis of both ultra-right marginal groups and part of the «new left» that arose in Bolivia in the 70-80s

Created in 1926, the International Leninist School (ILS) as a mechanism for the formation of political cadres for the parties of the Communist Intrnational, worked as an important structure of the Komintern, whose main objective was "bolshevisation", ideological homogenization of national communist parties. Its contribution to the preparation of cadres of the "professional revolutionaries" for Latin American parties corresponded to the level of importance and political weight of the parties in the region. In the ILS was formed a militant Marxism, whose sources were the historical experience and strategic interests of the Russian Communist party and the Soviet state, applies to the Latin-American realities. The functioning of the ILS was due to the bureaucratic logic of the superior organs of the Komintern and the administration of the school. The ILS and its students were used in the internal struggles in the direction of the Komintern and in the national parties. Despite the flaws inherent in the style and form of studies on the ILS, its graduated student took an important step in the development of the communist movement in Latin America.

    No full text
Abstract: In the history of the Latin American’s Communist movement, the 3rd Conference of the Communist Parties of Latin America, which took place in 1935, remains a field to be explored. Destined to be a political event that would conclude the policies and dogmas of the "third period" and mark the beginning of changes of the Comintern towards the policy of the Popular Front, based on its results it could not justify in the eyes of the directors of the International the role that had been assigned to it: elaborate new tactics for the parties of the region and prepare the historical resolutions of the VII Congress of the Comintern. The open and reserved resistances of the Latin American communist leaders contradicted the new line of the International, conditioning the oblivion and omission of this conference in the official history of the Comintern. The cominternian bureaucracy of the regional apparatus and consequently of the Argentine Communist Party, threatened by national parties with greater autonomy, offered a strong resistance to the Popular Front. This article is dedicated to this little-known episode of the Comintern history in Latin America.

    Get PDF

The studies of the left movement are a specific branch for the history of the 20th century. In the USSR, this implicitly academic problem always had political features and content imposed by the ideology and the prevailing political line of the single party of the government, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, which since the days of the Comintern claimed to be the conductor of the international communist movement and arbitrator for other movements on the lefts. To carry out this task in the USSR there were academic institutions whose objective was to provide the study and the elaboration of recommendations on the problematic points of politics, and at the same time fulfill the propagandistic role within the dominant ideology. However, within this rigid ideological system in the academic-university environment, heterodox ideas and concepts emerged that was like a living bonfire of Marxist thought in an ideologically sterilized country. This text tries to recover Soviet thought in the sphere of academic studies on the Latin American left.
