Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Get PDFDas Verbundprojekt "HoPla – Hochleistungssensorik für smarte Pflanzenschutzbehandlung" hatte das Ziel, eine innovative Gesamtlösung für die selektive, bedarfsgerechte Unkrautbekämpfung (Spot Spraying) in Getreidekulturen zu entwickeln und im Feld zu validieren. Im Mittelpunkt stand die Reduktion des Herbizideinsatzes um durchschnittlich 70 % ohne Ertragsverluste – ein entscheidender Beitrag zu einer nachhaltigeren und wirtschaftlicheren Landwirtschaft in Deutschland und Europa.
Solche Spot Spraying Systeme werden aktuell von zahlreichen Marktteilnehmern entwickelt und teilweise für die landwirtschaftliche Praxis kommerziell angeboten. Häufig fokussieren sich Anbieter dabei auf Reihenkulturen, wie z.B. Mais. Bei solchen Reihenkulturen kann die Spot Spraying Technologie aktuell als praxisreif bewertet werden. Getreidekulturen stellen eine größere Herausforderung dar. Jedoch ist anzunehmen, dass die zuverlässige Erkennung von Unkräutern und Ungräsern in Getreidekulturen einen wichtigen Meilenstein zur Akzeptanz der neuen Technologie durch Landwirte darstellt.
Aus wissenschaftlich-technischer Sicht ist die Übertragbarkeit bestehender Spot-Spraying-Ansätze auf Getreide insbesondere dadurch begrenzt, dass Zielpflanzen im frühen Entwicklungsstadium sehr klein sind und im dichten Bestand (überlappende Blätter, geringe Reihenabstände) selbst für das menschliche Auge schwer sicher zu erkennen sind. Vor diesem Hintergrund mussten Lösungen nicht nur "genau", sondern auch in Echtzeit auf kosteneffizienter Edge-Hardware lauffähig sein, um bei praxisüblichen Fahrgeschwindigkeiten eine kamerabasierte, selektive Applikation technisch zu ermöglichen.
Ein zentrales Element des Projekts war die Sammlung und Annotation von Pflanzenbildern, die maßgeblich von xarvio verantwortet wurde. In enger Abstimmung mit den Projektpartnern wurde in mehreren Stufen ein umfangreicher Datensatz im sechsstelligen Bildbereich von Feldsituationen in verschiedenen Versuchsanordnungen aufgenommen: Zunächst in kontrollierten Gefäßversuchen mit zuvor sterilisiertem Boden (Phase 1 und 2), später unter realen Feldbedingungen (Phase 3). Die Bilddatenerhebung erfolgte dabei gezielt zu unterschiedlichen Zeitpunkten, unter variierenden Licht- und Bodenbedingungen sowie mit und ohne Herbizidbehandlung, um eine möglichst große Varianz und Praxisnähe zu gewährleisten.
Die Annotation der Bilddaten – also die präzise Markierung und Klassifizierung von Unkräutern und Kulturpflanzen in jedem einzelnen Bild – wurde von xarvio koordiniert und gemeinsam mit Bosch und der Universität Hohenheim durchgeführt. Hierbei kamen sowohl manuelle als auch KI-gestützte Vorannotationsverfahren zum Einsatz, die iterativ verbessert wurden. Die Qualitätssicherung und die finale Freigabe der Datensätze lagen in der Verantwortung von xarvio. Insgesamt wurden knapp 10.000 Bilder entweder komplett händisch oder in einem teilautomatisierten Prozess annotiert. Diese umfassende Datenbasis bildete die Grundlage für die Entwicklung und das Training der KI-Modelle zur Unkrauterkennung, die von UHOH und Bosch umgesetzt wurden.
Als wesentliche Ergebnisse wurden neben der breiten, qualitätsgesicherten Datenbasis auch zentrale Bausteine für eine spätere Serienumsetzung im Smart-Spraying-Kontext geschaffen: Die Projektpartner entwickelten optimierte Modellarchitekturen, die eine echtzeitfähige Unkrauterkennung in Getreide ermöglichen, und erreichten hierfür die geforderte Laufzeit auf Edge-Systemen (Ziel-Inferenzzeit 50 ms). Auf Systemseite wurde die Sensoreinheit u. a. durch eine verbesserte Beleuchtungseinheit (FLUnano) weiterentwickelt, die die Kamera mit der geforderten Bildrate unterstützt. Zudem wurden KI-gestützte Verfahren zur Reduktion manueller Labeling-Aufwände sowie GenAI-basierte Ansätze (z. B. Inpainting) zur Erzeugung zusätzlicher Trainingsdaten erprobt. Gleichzeitig zeigte sich, dass aufgrund der optischen Auflösungsgrenzen eine speziesgenaue Bestimmung sehr kleiner Pflanzen in dichten Getreidebeständen derzeit nicht robust möglich ist; der praxisnahe Fokus wurde daher auf eine Typ-Differenzierung (monokotyl vs. dikotyl) gelegt, die in der landwirtschaftlichen Anwendung ein günstiges Aufwand-Nutzen-Verhältnis bietet
