Transforming education in Egypt : Western influence and domestic policy reform
Basic education-considered essential for building democratic societies and competitive economies-has headed the agendas of development agencies in recent years. During the same period, Egypt topped the lists of recipients of development assistance and proclaimed education to be its national project. In Transforming Education in Egypt, political scientist Fatma Sayed explains how Egyptian domestic political actors have interacted with and reacted to international development aid to Egypt's educational system, particularly when that aid is linked to sensitive issues of reform and cultural change. In recent years, international donors have called for changes that are inconsistent with the functions, structures and culture of Egyptian institutions, resulting in a climate of suspicion surrounding foreign aid to education. In this penetrating analysis, Sayed looks at how problems are diagnosed and reforms implemented and resisted. As Sayed demonstrates, the low level of ownership and consensus among the various domestic actors and the failure to establish strategic coalitions to support the reforms result in poor implementation and incomplete internalization. Policy makers have to date not succeeded in achieving the minimum level of domestic consensus essential for embedding the values and culture that bring about true reform. From the debate over free education to conspiracy theories and the evolving definition of international norms, this book sheds new light on the conflict of ideas that surrounds donor-sponsored reforms.-- Part 1: International Norms and Domestic Policy Development

Fatma aliye and defense of Islamic values
The article concerns an analysis of the recently published text by Fatma Aliye debating with European ideas and prejudices about Islam that has not been a subject of interest in the South Slavonic intellectual and academic circles. Fatma Aliye (1862-1936) was the first Turkish woman novelist, the first Turkish woman philosopher, and the author of the book Tezahur-i Hakikat (Appearance of Truth) that was published for the first time in January 2016 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of her death. Like some writers of the Tanzimat era, especially Namik Kemal, Fatma Aliye entered the debate with the European writers wishing to oppose the prevailing Orientalist approach in Europe that had been blaming Islam for the stagnation of sciences and culture. She demonstrated enviable erudition and devotion to the Islamic culture. Her views show the permanent duality of the Ottoman intellectuals between their desire for Westernization and their need to stay in the Islamic tradition. In many aspects, the approaches to Islam and the defence of Islamic values of Fatma Aliye are still current

A Woman’s Biography: Fatma Aliye Hanım or The Emergence of an Ottoman Woman of Letters Bir Kadın Biyografisi Olarak Fatma Aliye Hanım yahut Bir Muharrire-i Osmaniye’nin Neş’eti
From the mid-19th century onwards, measures taken to include women in the modernization project began to bear fruit only at the end of the century. The participation of women as writers in the world of literature and the press can be considered as a result of this modernization movement. In such a period, the presentation of Fatma Aliye Hanım’s biography has multiple meanings in terms of both its writing and its content. Fatma Aliye Hanım or the Emergence of an Ottoman Woman of Letters, written by Ahmet Mithat Efendi, was published in 1896. It is known as the first biography by a female author in the Ottoman world. It has maintained this characteristic for many years. In this study, in order to define the text, first of all, the writing, publication and features of Fatma Aliye Hanım or the Emergence of an Ottoman Woman of Letters are emphasized. Meanwhile, some issues were clarified based on the correspondence between Fatma Aliye Hanım and Ahmet Mithat Efendi. However, the main problematic of the study is to reveal the subject matter of a woman in biography, which was a completely masculine genre at the time it was written. In this context, the text was analyzed as a biography of a woman written by a male author in a period with masculine characteristics, and an evaluation was made based on its possibilities, impossibilities, limitations and achievements

Tetranychus urticae AChE sequences were performed local as well as global alignments, using BLASTX search protein databases, using a translated nucleotide (NCBI). Three different specific primer sets (1, 2, and 3; Table 1) contained 422 amino acids of AChE gene. Dots: indicate amino acid similarity. Digital number: amino acid position on the AChE protein.Published as part of Zein, Haggag S., Afifi, Abdallah M., Ali, Fatma S., Shaurub, El-Sayed H. & Ahmed, Mahmoud M., 2022, Target-site insensitivity to some acaricides in a field population of Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) from Egypt, pp. 323-337 in Persian Journal of Acarology 11 (2) on page 329, DOI: 10.22073/pja.v11i2.71694, http://zenodo.org/record/717353
