Failure to Launch: Scope Creep and Other Causes of Failure
One of the causes of information systems development project is scope creep. The increasing number of features demanded by stakeholders to be built into the applications within the fixed time limit is a recipe for failure. This article looked into the process of a web application development failure, where scope creep deemed as the main cause. However, an in depth looks into the time line of the project also reveal another cause which was the failure of the application itself along with the platform (hardware and software) to actually execute the
software. It is believed that Actor Network Theory frame work is appropriate to analyze the case where human and non-human actors involved.
Data were collected using participative observation. Data would be analyzed following Grounded Theory method. The analysis will be conducted to find pattern of negotiations and communications between all the stakeholders during the design process. Actor Network Theory would be used to explain the power play between stakeholders. A model of all the actors (stakeholders) and how the interplay among them was build which at the end
ACTOR NETWORK THEORY APPROACH IN THE REQUIREMENTS MANAGEMENT PROCESS
Requirements management (RM) is defined as a set of activities to gather requirements, prioritized requirements (triage), and documenting requirements. The requirements would be a product of compromise between marketing (representing users), developers who build the software, and finance department who make the budget. In this paper we would like to show how to understand RM process in less than ideal world. Requirements are not a product of compromise. Requirements are product of power struggle between those 3 parties. The three parties would try to win the struggle and imposing their own agenda (including requirements) into the final products. We argue that Actor Network Theory could explain such phenomena better
The Adoption Of Tailor-made IT-based Accounting Systems Within Indonesian SMEs From Actor Network Theory Perspective
This paper examines the adoption process of computer-based accounting information systems within
Indonesian SMEs. The analysis was conducted using theoretical framework proposed by Slappendel
[1] which is interactive process. Interactive process argues that adoption of innovation (IT in
particular) should be viewed as an interactive process between individual member, organization, and
its environment. One of the emerging theories within interactive process is Actor Network Theory
(ANT) proposed by Latour, Callon, and Law[2-7]. ANT classified adoption process as four stages
process, namely problematisation, interrestment, enrolment, and mobilization. We used qualitative
approach to gather data, analyze and draw conclusion. As the result we come up with factors that influencing the adoption process along with the failure and success of such endeavour. We argues that ANT is better in explaining the adoption of IT compared to other model due its ability to identified not only the factors but also the process of adoption and explaining the success or failure of the process
Information Technology Adoption Research: A Proposed Theoretical Guide
Research within the adoption of information technology has been existing for quite sometimes. The theoretical framework used for such research have been from the area of Diffusion of Innovation by Rogers [1], technology acceptance [2-5] which is based on Theory of Reasoned Action [6], and also recently Actor Network Theory [7-9]. This paper try to map the existing theories in order to give a better view on how that theory should fit into
adoption of IT research
Adoption of Social Media Networks by Indonesian SME: A Case Study
AbstractWe observed how an Indonesian SME using social media networks (Facebook and Twitter) for their business. The adoption of social media network to promote and conduct business in SMEs is quite new. We used Actor Network Theory (Callon, 1999; Latour, 2005; Law, 1999) to explain the adoption social media networks due to its ability to explain the adoption phenomenon as an interactive process between organisations and its environment rather than focusing on individual factors that may affecting the adoption (Kautz, 2004; Slappendel, 1996). The qualitative approach was deemed appropriate for this study since the use of a process-based perspective required a thorough analysis and understanding of the social media networks adoption process. The qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews allowed us to explore in depth all the factors and the interaction of all stakeholders within a social media networks adoption process by Indonesian SME(Creswell, 2003; Leedy & Ormrod, 2005). As a result we found a number of factors that enable the success of using social media networks for supporting business
I have to buy iPad Mini: The UTAUT Perspective
Since 2015 new students at Faculty of Economics, Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University (FEUAJY) have to purchase iPad Mini and eBooks as part of their admission package. This study looks at the acceptance of iPad Mini for supporting academic activities when the purchase is compulsory rather than voluntary. This study used the original UTAUT model but dropped moderating variables of Age and Voluntariness. A survey was employed to gather data from class of 2015 and 2016 FEUAJY undergraduate students. The result of the survey was analysed using PLS-SEM. The results show that the original UTAUT model could explain the acceptance of iPad Mini, which is consistent with the findings of previous studies on the same population. However, the low ability of the model to explain the acceptance required further exploration
Forced eLearning Acceptance using TPB: High School vs University Students
Covid 19 Pandemic has forced Indonesian students to utilize eLearning tools. This article tests the acceptance of forced eLearning by Indonesian high school and students using Theory of Planned Behavior. The study extended original TPB to include Perceived Cost, Perceived Risks, Trust (both organization and application), Perceived Ease of Used, Perceived Usefulness, Controllability, and Self-efficacy. We also conducted Multi Group Analysis to see if university students and high school students have differences in their acceptance
Analisis Data Penelitian Kualitatif
