Realizing the relaxion from multiple axions and its UV completion with high scale supersymmetry
Abstract: We discuss a scheme to implement the relaxion solution to the hierarchy problem with multiple axions, and present a UV-completed model realizing the scheme. All of the N axions in our model are periodic with a similar decay constant f well below the Planck scale. In the limit N ≫ 1, the relaxion ϕ corresponds to an exponentially long multi-helical flat direction which is shaped by a series of mass mixing between nearby axions in the compact field space of N axions. With the length of flat direction given by Δϕ = 2πfeff ∼ eξNf for ξ=O(1), both the scalar potential driving the evolution of φ during the inflationary epoch and the ϕ-dependent Higgs boson mass vary with an exponentially large periodicity of O(f)eff, while the back reaction potential stabilizing the relaxion has a periodicity of Of O(f). A natural UV completion of our scheme can be found in high scale or (mini) split supersymmetry (SUSY) scenario with the axion scales generated by SUSY breaking as f∼mSUSYM∗, where the soft SUSY breaking scalar mass mSUSY can be well above the weak scale, and the fundamental scale M* can be identified as the Planck scale or the GUT scale. © 2016, The Author(s)675911Nsciescopu

Funded by SCOAP3.We show that an axionlike particle (ALP) naturally implements spontaneous electroweak baryogenesis through a cosmic evolution strongly tied to the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) if it feebly couples to the Higgs field while giving a small contribution to the Higgs boson mass. The observed baryon asymmetry can be generated successfully if the ALP couples strongly enough to the electroweak anomaly. Also interesting is that the ALP contributes to dark matter, and its coupling to a hidden gauge sector makes the relic abundance insensitive to the cosmic history before the EWPT. The ALP explains both the baryon asymmetry and dark matter in a wide range of the couplings owing to the friction induced by the hidden gauge sector. To be compatible with cosmological and astrophysical observations, the ALP should have a mass in the range between about 0.01 and 30 eV, and is further required to be photophobic if its coupling to the electroweak anomaly is strong, constraining the field content and charge assignment of the UV completion.11Nsciescopu
Peccei-Quinn invariant singlet extended SUSY with anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry
Abstract: Recent discovery of the SM-like Higgs boson with mh ≃ 125 GeV motivates an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), which involves a singlet Higgs superfield with a sizable Yukawa coupling to the doublet Higgs superfields. We examine such singlet-extended SUSY models with a Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry that originates from an anomalous U(1)A gauge symmetry. We focus on the specific scheme that the PQ symmetry is spontaneously broken at an intermediate scale vPQ ∼ mSUSYMPl by an interplay between Planck scale suppressed operators and tachyonic soft scalar mass mSUSY (Formula Presented.) induced dominantly by the U(1)AD-term DA. This scheme also results in spontaneous SUSY breaking in the PQ sector, generating the gaugino masses (Formula Presented.) when it is transmitted to the MSSM sector by the conventional gauge mediation mechanism. As a result, the MSSM soft parameters in this scheme are induced mostly by the U(1)AD-term and the gauge mediated SUSY breaking from the PQ sector, so that the sparticle masses can be near the present experimental bounds without causing the SUSY flavor problem. The scheme is severely constrained by the condition that a phenomenologically viable form of the low energy operators of the singlet and doublet Higgs superfields is generated by the PQ breaking sector in a way similar to the Kim-Nilles solution of the μ problem, and the resulting Higgs mass parameters allow the electroweak symmetry breaking with small tan β. We find two minimal models with two singlet Higgs superfields, satisfying this condition with a relatively simple form of the PQ breaking sector, and briefly discuss some phenomenological aspects of the model. © 2015, The Author(s)1111Nsciescopu
General gauge symmetry in the theory and simulation of heat transport in nonsolid materials
The Green-Kubo theory of atomic heat transport relies on the ambiguous decomposition of total energy into atomicenergies of individual atoms. The challenge is to understand how the transport coefficient thermodynamically emerges from such ill-defined atomic energies. Here, we show that a simple symmetry principle for atomic energies (that is, all possible ways of distributing energy among atoms are equivalent) dictates the general theory of atomic heat transport, in which, by construction, the same heat conductivity κ is ensured regardless of the choice of atomic energies. This approach is analogous to the way in which general covariance (all coordinate systems are equivalent) is used to construct the general theory of relativity. To this end, we define atomic gauges that regulate the redundant degrees of freedom in atomic energies. The atomic gauge symmetry then uniquely determines the gauge-invariant form of macroscopic energy transfer, which is identified as heat. The gauge theory not only lays a firm foundation of the Green-Kubo formalism of heat transport, but also offers a variational method for calculating κ of nonsolid materials, as demonstrated using machine learning inferred atomic energies of Cu2S, an intriguing solid-liquid hybrid material for thermoelectrics. © 2021 American Physical Society.1

Supersymmetric clockwork axion model and axino dark matter
© 2020 authors. Published by the American Physical Society. Implications of supersymmetrizing the clockwork axions are studied. Supersymmetry ensures that the saxions and axinos have the same pattern of the coupling hierarchy as the clockwork axions. If we assume supersymmetry breaking is universal over the clockwork sites, the coupling structure is preserved, while the mass orderings of the saxions and axinos can differ depending on the supersymmetry breaking scale. While the massive saxions and axions quickly decay, the lightest axino can be stable and, thus, a dark matter candidate. The relic abundance of the axino dark matter from thermal production is mostly determined by decays of the heavier axinos in the normal mass ordering. This exponentially enhances the thermal yield compared to the conventional axino scenarios. Some cosmological issues are discussed11Nsciescopu
Precision axion physics with running axion couplings
© 2021, The Author(s).We study the renormalization group running of axion couplings while taking into account that the Standard Model can be extended to its supersymmetric extension at a certain energy scale below the axion decay constant. We then apply our results to three different classes of axion models, i.e. KSVZ-like, DFSZ-like, and string-theoretic axions, and examine if string-theoretic axions can be distinguished from others by having a different pattern of low energy couplings to the photon, nucleons and electron. We find that the low energy couplings of string-theoretic axions have a similar pattern as those of KSVZ-like axions but yet reveal a sizable difference which might be testable in future axion search experiments. We also note that the coupling of KSVZ-like QCD axions to the electron is dominated by a three-loop contribution involving the exotic heavy quark, gluons, top quark and Higgs field.11Nsciescopu
Transnational Dynamics : The Social Activism of Korean Immigrants and Their Descendants in Germany
750 GeV diphoton resonance and electric dipole moments
We examine the implication of the recently observed 750 GeV diphoton excess for the electric dipole moments of the neutron and electron. If the excess is due to a spin zero resonance which couples to photons and gluons through the loops of massive vector-like fermions, the resulting neutron electric dipole moment can be comparable to the present experimental bound if the CP-violating angle α in the underlying new physics is of O(10−1). An electron EDM comparable to the present bound can be achieved through a mixing between the 750 GeV resonance and the Standard Model Higgs boson, if the mixing angle itself for an approximately pseudoscalar resonance, or the mixing angle times the CP-violating angle α for an approximately scalar resonance, is of O(10−3). For the case that the 750 GeV resonance corresponds to a composite pseudo-Nambu–Goldstone boson formed by a QCD-like hypercolor dynamics confining at ΛHC, the resulting neutron EDM can be estimated with α∼(750 GeV/ΛHC)2θHC, where θHC is the hypercolor vacuum angle.
