Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Conform Organizaţiei Mondiale a Sănătăţii, accidentele rutiere reprezintă principala cauză de deces prin traumatisme neintenţionate la copiii şi adolescenţii cu vârsta cuprinsă între 0-14 ani, în Regiunea Europeană. Scop. Studierea, analizarea şi evaluarea nivelului de cunoştinţe, a atitudinilor şi practicilor în vederea siguranţei rutiere în rândul copiilor claselor primare din mediul rural şi urban. Material şi metode. Studiul s-a realizat în perioada aprilie-mai 2025, prin chestionarea a 99 de copii, dintre ei 63.6% din mediul urban şi 36.4% din mediul rural, clasele a I-IV-a din două instituţii de învăţământ, una din mediul urban, Oraşul Chişinău şi a doua instituţie din mediul rural, satul Marinici, r-nul Ni-sporeni. Chestionarul a inclus 39 întrebări. Rezultate. S-a stabilit că majoritatea copiilor recunosc semaforul cu „omuleţ” ca fiind pentru pietoni (78.8%), traversează strada la culoarea verde, când maşinile s-au oprit (82.8%). Toţi copiii consideră că nu este corect să scoţi părţi ale corpului pe geamul maşinii în mişcare pentru că poţi fi accidentat, 96% dintre ei spun că casca de protecţie trebuie purtată de fiecare dată când utilizează bicicleta pentru a-şi proteja capul de un eventual accident. Doar 29.3% dintre copii merg cu bicicleta pe pistele speciale, 50.5% traversează stada cu skateboar-ul în mână, iar atunci când călătoresc cu maşina doar 17.2% stau în scaun auto. Concluzii. Datele obţinute demonstrează că cunoştinţele privind siguranţa rutieră în rândul copiilor claselor primare trebuie schimbate în practici şi atitudini sigure prin educaţie continuă şi metode adaptate vârstei lor, astfel încât copiii să devină participanţi responsabili ai traficului rutier.Introduction. The road safety of children and adolescents is an important concern on a global scale. According to the World Health Organization, road traffic accidents are the leading cause of death resulting from unintentional injuries among children and adolescents aged 0 to 14 in the European Region. Objective. Studying, analyzing and evaluating the current level of knowledge, attitudes and practices concerning road safety among primary school children in rural and urban communities. Material and methods. The study was conducted during April-May 2025 by surveying 99 children, of which 63.6% were from urban community and 36.4% from rural community, enrolled in grades 1 to 4 at two educational institutions, one from Chisinau city and the other from the village Marinici, Nisporeni district. The questionnaire included 39 questions. Results. It was determined that most children perceive the traffic light with the „little man” as being for pedestrians (78.8%) and cross the street on green, when the cars have stopped (82.8%). All the children consider that it is not right to stick body parts out of the window of a moving car, because there is a risk of injury, 96% of them saying that a helmet should be worn every time they use their bike, to protect their head from a possible accident. Only 29.3% of children ride their bike on special tracks, 50.5% cross the street with a skateboard in their hand, and when traveling by car, only 17.2% sit in a special car seat. Conclusion. The obtained data demonstrated that the knowledge concerning road safety among primary school children must be changed into safe practices and attitudes through continuous education and methods adapted to their age, so that children become responsible participants in road traffic

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
