Assessment of vitamin D status in turkish adolescents: its relation to obesity, cardiometabolic risk factors and nutritional status
Studies on effects of vitamin D on human body have indicated that vitamin D deficiency may contribute to an increased risk of obesity and cardiometabolic risk factors; during childhood; however, these relationships remain unclear. The aim of this study is to determine the influences of adiposity, dietary and environmental factors on vitamin D status and the relationship between 25(OH)D and cardiometabolic risk factors in adolescents. The research was carried out in 69 adolescents (60.9% female, 39.1% male) who applied to the Istanbul Marmara University Pendik Educational Research Hospital Pediatric Endocrinology Department, aged between 12 and 17 years. Data was collected in three stages; in the first stage, the questionnaire was developed including the demographic status, nutritional status and physical activities of those adolescents. In the second stage, anthropometric measurements were taken. In the third and final stage, biochemical analysis was measured. There were no statistical differences between groups (Vitamin D deficient and sufficient) in dietary and environmental factors that may have affected serum 25(OH)D. Serum 25(OH) D level was not inversely correlated with anthropometric measurements (p>0.05). While there were no significant differences between serum 25(OH)D levels and HOMA-IR; there was a positive correlation between serum calcium and HOMA-IR (r=0.276, p<0.05) independent of body adiposity There was a positive correlation between serum 25(OH)D levels and amount of daily dietary protein (r=0.344) and fat intake (r=0.286) (p<0.05), but there was no correlation between serum 25(OH)D and dietary vitamin D and calcium intake (r=-0.022, r=0.235; respectively). Because foods are not primary sources of vitamin D, this correlation should be assessed with further research on population who consume fortificated food. The results from this study suggest the importance of vitamin D supplementation and food fortification in Turkish adolescents. This study didn't show relationship between vitamin D status and obesity, insulin resistance. Effects of vitamin D deficiency on chronic diseases need to be assessed with prospective studies
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Purpose of ReviewMalnutrition is a significant comorbidity in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), contributing to disease progression and reduced quality of life. This narrative review examines the role of nutritional therapy in the prevention and management of malnutrition in COPD, emphasizing evidence-based approaches and their clinical implications.Recent FindingsCOPD patients face increased metabolic demands, systemic inflammation, and reduced dietary intake, resulting in muscle wasting, sarcopenia, and cachexia. Recent evidence highlights the efficacy of targeted nutritional strategies, including essential amino acid supplementation, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and antioxidants, in improving respiratory function, muscle strength, and patient well-being. Comprehensive nutritional assessments and personalized interventions are increasingly recognized as critical components of COPD care. However, long-term efficacy data remain limited.SummaryNutritional therapy plays a pivotal role in managing malnutrition and improving clinical outcomes in COPD. This review synthesizes the latest evidence, identifies gaps in current research, and proposes strategies for integrating personalized nutrition into COPD care. Future studies are needed to establish the long-term benefits of these interventions and to develop tailored nutritional guidelines for COPD patients
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Health Benefits of Olive Leaf: The Focus on Efficacy of Antiglycation Mechanisms
Olive leaves have been a therapeutic herbal agent for diseases for centuries. Olive leaves contain many health-beneficial nutrients and bioactive components. There is much evidence for the positive effects of the phenolic compounds they contain on health. The main active phenolic component in olive leaves is oleuropein, which can constitute 6%-9% of the leaf's dry matter and has been intensively studied for its promising results/effects on human health. In addition, olive leaf provides health benefits through bioactive components, such as secoiridoids, flavonoids, triter- penes, and lignans. The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic, and antihypertensive properties of bioactive components, especially oleuropein, are well known. In addition, various health benefits, such as neuroprotective effects and microbiota modulation, are also mentioned. In recent years, in vitro studies have shown that olive leaves and bioactive components from olive leaves may have antiglycation effects. Currently, it is thought that the components found in olive leaves have a direct or indirect antiglycation effect. It is thought that, their direct effects include reducing the interaction between sugars and amino acids, nucleic acids, and lipids and sequestering reactive dicarbonyl species, and their indirect effects include preventing the formation of advanced glycation end- products (AGEs) by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. However, in vivo and clinical studies are needed to prove these mechanisms and understand how their metabolism works in the human body. The Relationship Between Vitamin D Status and Cardiometabolic Outcomes in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus From Central Anatolia, Turkey
The current study aimed to investigate the relationship between vitamin D status and cardiometabolic risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Neither glycemic parameters nor lipid profile components were significantly associated with vitamin D status (P > .05 for each). The mean waist circumference and body fat mass tended to be higher in the group with vitamin D deficiency than in the group with no vitamin D deficiency (P = .046, P = .015, respectively). Vitamin D deficiency was associated with higher waist circumference and body fat mass rather than adverse glycemic and lipidemic outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

In the presence of an underlying organic cause, priority treatment should be elimination of this cause. One of the other important approaches is the identification of nutritional problems. This situation is important for the effectiveness of treatment approaches. Nutritional principles appropriate for the age of the child or baby may support the effective treatment of nutritional problems in practice. Determination of the nutritional strength of the patient and the planning of treatment methods for it are important for the effectiveness of the treatment
Possible effects of dietary advanced glycation end products on maternal and fetal health: a review
Excessive accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in the body has been associated with many adverse health conditions. The common point of the pathologies associated at this point is oxidative stress and inflammation. Pregnancy is an important period in which many physiological, psychological, and biological changes are experienced. Along with the physiological changes that occur during this period, the mother maintaining an AGE-rich diet may cause an increase in the body's AGE pool and may increase oxidative stress and inflammation, as seen in healthy individuals. Studies have reported the negative effects of maternal AGE levels on maternal and fetal health during pregnancy. Although gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, endothelial dysfunction, and pelvic diseases constitute maternal complications, a number of pathological conditions such as intrauterine growth retardation, premature birth, neural tube defect, neurobehavioral developmental disorders, fetal death, and neonatal asphyxia constitute fetal complications. It is thought that the mechanisms of these complications have not been confirmed yet and more clinical studies are needed on this subject. The possible effects of dietary AGE levels during pregnancy on maternal and fetal health are examined in this review
