Beyond the Salassa-Samuelson Effect in some New Member States of the European Union

This paper analyses the Balassa and Samuelson hypothesis in two groups of European countries: six New Member States (NMS) and six advanced EU-15 economies. It is found that the second stage of the hypothesis, which relates relative sector prices with the real exchange rate, does not hold anywhere. In the NMS the main reasons are increased demand for domestic tradables stemming from positive differentials in economic growth, probably coupled with quality improvements in domestic tradable goods. In the EU-15, the explanatory factor is segmentation between national markets of tradables, caused by transportation costs, non-tariff barriers and imperfect competition between firms.Balassa-Samuelson effect, panel cointegration, economic transition, market segmentation, quality bias

This report on Ellinge castle is a product in the course ”Garden Conservation”. The work has been carried out in a group consisting of Karin Henriksson, Karin Ingemansson and Eva-Marie Samuelson. The purpose of this report is to describe Ellinge castle’s history, including its designed landscape surroundings, gardens and parks. The aim was also to make an inventory of the current situation and have a discussion, based on our results, on how the long term care, management and preservation can be carried out. The search concerning Ellinge castle’s history has primarily been carried out through archival studies, contact with people and visits to the site to find traces of previous garden designs. We have also made a short summary of Ellinges broader history. In the result chapter, we have divided the history into chronological order: Early History, 18th, 19th and 20th century history. The early history is based on previously printed historical summaries. From 1760 onwards there are maps of various kinds’ available and also contemporary descriptions. From 1897 onwards there are photographs preserved which has been an important source for determining how parts of the park has developed trough the years. The written material we have found about Ellinge focuses mainly on a general history about the castle but has also sometimes mentioned the park and garden. From our archival studies, we have also found some protocols and lists, which have further helped us identify the park and gardens history. To identify the current state of Ellinges Park gardens and near surroundings has a comprehensive inventory been carried out. This inventory included drawing of maps, photographing and the making of an inventory list containing findings like plants, constructions and traces of previous garden management and designs. Based on history and the inventory of Ellinge castles surroundings, a discussion are being held on how this site, dating from the 1200-century, can be preserved and further developed. Conclusions drawn are the importance of preserving the large structures in a park that have been continuously developed and adapted to the prevailing style ideals. It is important to keep the two dominating axises and to preserve the moat around the castle. It is also important to keep the lush and green nature at Ellinge, mainly the large and old trees and the tree rows that are leading out into the landscape. Some ideas for a possible future replanting of trees has been described Finally, conclusions about how Ellinge is to be developed in the future, linked to today’s activities, and how to create an outdoor environment suitable for its future use are being drawn

There are three main objectives in this work. The first and most important is learning a new methodology, system dynamics, which has not been studied previously. From this learning, it will seek to achieve the second objective, which is the application of knowledge gained to a model already developed, which is the model of the multiplier-accelerator of Samuelson (1939) reviewed by W. Low (1976) trying to play through the use of simulation software Vensim PLE and noting the usefulness of system dynamics in such complex models. The third objective is to develop a simulation strategy, or what is the same, selecting the most important simulations obtained from the model’s development. To achieve the three objectives have been revised macroeconomic literature referred to Samuelson model. Although the aim of the work is not theoretical description of the model, certain important aspects for understanding the results of the simulations will be discussed. In the development of such simulations, we start with a similar to the original model, which will be added variables to better reflect the macroeconomic reality, obtaining the conclusion that, if we added realism to the model, the cyclical behavior derivative by the interaction of the multiplier and accelerator, characteristic of the traditional model, is not obtained, although this remains valid for the assumptions made by Samuelson. The conclusion that we obtain is that the system dynamics is very useful for treating problems where analytical solution becomes very complex.Traballo fin de grao (UDC.ECO). Economía. Curso 2014/201

Economic Value Added (EVA is one approach to measuring the financial performance of a company by focusing on the creation of value-added enterprises. EVA shows how big the resulting rate of return on the investment made by shareholders. In this paper, the object used by the author is wrong a company engaged in the food and beverage industry in Indonesia Stock Exchange. data used is the consolidated financial statements of the company in 2011-2012. purpose of this paper is to measure the financial performance of the EVA approach to food and beverage companies 2011-2012. Results analysis of the EVA calculation shows that by using the EVA approach, the financial performance of food and beverage companies can experience a volatile period 2011-2012. In 2011 the company's financial performance has improved food and beverage d in the presence of EVA is positive that the company has succeeded in achieving its goal create value-added enterprises. But in 2012 the company's food and beverage show poor financial performance since EVA generated negative worth. This means that in 2012, the company has not been able to create value for the rate of return expected by shareholders or the investment made. Keywords: Economic Value Added (EVA
