No full textEn el presente artículo se trabajará con The Fat Black Woman’s Poems de la au- tora guyanesa Grace Nichols, se ofrece- rá un punto de vista que permite integrar cuerpo y espacio desde una perspectiva feminista. Se mostrará que la poesía de Nichols se construye mediante tensio- nes de sentido que hacen convivir el Ca- ribe, el Reino Unido y África, en las que cada región se halla latente en la otra.In this article, we will analyze The Fat Black Woman’s Poems, by Guyanese author Grace Nichols, a different point of view will be offered that will allow us to integrate body and space from a feminist perspective. No full textI is a Long-Memoried Woman (1983), primer poemario de la autora guyanesa Grace Nichols, le valió el Commonwealth Poetry Prize, el reconocimiento de la crítica y la posicionó como una de las nuevas voces del Caribe en la diáspora. En el presente trabajo se explora el estado dislocado en que vive la protagonista de este libro, esclavizada y arrancada de su Africa natal, y cómo éste se evidencia y subsana a través de la relación con el nuevo espacio que se habita. Para ello, se analiza cómo Nichols construye una mirada paisajística que se expresa en una «escritura topográfica» en la que lenguaje y paisaje se funden.I is a Long-Memoried Woman (1983), first poetry collection by Guyanese author Grace Nichols, was awarded the Commonwealth Poetry Prize and stablished its author as one of the critically acclaimed new voices of the Caribbean in diaspora. In this article, we will explore the dislocated state of this book protagonist, enslaved and torn away from her natal Africa, and how this state is expressed and repaired through the relationship with the new inhabited space. In order to do so, we will analyze how Nichols constructs a landscape view that is expressed in a "topographic writing" in which language and landscape merge.I és a Long-Memoried Woman (1983), primer poemari de l'autora guyanesa Grace Nichols, li va valer el Commonwealth Poetry Prize, el reconeixement de la crítica i la va posicionar com una de les noves veus del Carib a la diàspora. Co-operation and economic relationship as determinants for competitiveness in the food sector: the Spanish wheat to bread chain
No full textThe objective of the paper is to investigate the impact of co-operation amongst stakeholders of the food chain on enterprise competitiveness. The analysis focuses on the Spanish wheat to bread chain. A theoretical model is developed which covers the main components that define competitiveness (profitability, turnover, market share, customer loyalty and product quality), quality supply chain relationship (trust, commitment and satisfaction) and the main factors explaining supply chain relationship (i.e. quality and frequency of the communication, personal bounds, etc.). The Spanish wheat to bread supply chain has been chosen to empirically test the model. This sector is very fragmented all along the chain, with a high number of wheat farmers, millers and bakers. Exchanges in the sector are mainly done in the open market but there is an increasing tendency to maintain stable relationships with suppliers to assure quality. Therefore, stakeholders in the wheat to bread chain are mainly using two types of economic relationships: “repeated market transactions” and “spot market” but the former is by far the most used. Based on data from a standardised survey with farmers, processors and retailers a structural equation modelling approach has been applied to empirically test the influence of relationship quality on stakeholders’ competitiveness in the Spanish wheat to bread chain. The main conclusion of the study is that, as the quality of the relationship in the Spanish wheat to bread chain improves the stakeholder’ competitiveness increases. The results also reveal that quality of the relationship in the Spanish wheat to bread chain is based on trust, satisfaction and commitment with buyers/sellers and strongly influenced by communication quality and quantity. In addition, the outcome shows that the quality of communication has an indirect positive effect on stakeholders’ competitiveness through the relationship quality. Finally, the only factor that will influence the quality of the relationship is the equal power distribution along the chain. Double-edged weapons: humor in The Fat Black Woman’s Poems and Lazy Thoughts of a Lazy Woman, by Grace Nichols
No full textEl segundo y tercer poemario (The Fat Black Woman’s Poems [1984] y Lazy Thoughts of a Lazy Woman [1989], respectivamente) de Grace Nichols, autora guyanesa residente en el Reino Unido desde 1977, se encuentran hermanados por el uso del humor. Criticada por valerse de este recurso, visto como un exceso de liviandad para tratar temas complejos como el pasado de esclavitud, la dura vida del inmigrante caribeño o la sexualidad femenina, Nichols revindica su utilización en tanto implica su adscripción a la tradición antillana. En el presente trabajo, mediante el análisis de cuatro poemas (dos de cada libro), se explora cómo opera el humor en ambas obras y qué simplificaciones conlleva, poniendo especial énfasis en cómo la aparente liviandad que aporta es, en tanto tradición caribeña, otro modo de resistencia.The second and third poetry collection (The Fat Black Woman’s Poems [1984] y Lazy Thoughts of a Lazy Woman [1989], respectively) by Grace Nichols, Guyanese author living in the United Kingdom since 1977, are related due to the use of humor. Criticized for utilizing this resource, seen as excess of lightness when addressing complex themes such as slavery, the harsh life of the Caribbean immigrant, or female sexuality, Nichols reclaims humor as a way of ascribing herself to Antillean tradition. In the current essay, we will explore through the analysis of four poems (two from each book) how humor operates in both collections and which simplifications it entails, emphasizing how the apparent lightness it gives is, seen as part of Caribbean tradition, another way of resistance.Fil: Galettini, Azucena. Topographic writing and landscape artelization in Chronicles of the hostile sun, by Dionne Brand
No full textEl poemario Chronicles of the Hostile Sun (1984) de la autora trinitense Dionne Brand, que reside en Canadá desde la década de 1970, evoca la revolución de Granada que ocurrió entre 1979-1983 y la ocupación estadounidense de la isla durante la operación denominada «Urgent Fury» en octubre de 1983. En el presente trabajo se explora cómo Brand construye lo que aquí denominamos una «escritura topográfica» para dar cuenta del proceso de artealización (Roger 2007) que todo paisaje conlleva, poniendo el eje en las luchas políticas que esta estetización esconde. Brand pone en evidencia en su poesía cómo opera su propia «pantalla-tamiz» (Foster 1988) a la hora de mirar el Caribe, así como también la construcción estereotipada y reduccionista de quienes lo ven sólo como fuente de consumo.Chronicles of the Hostile Sun (1984), poetry collection by Dionne Brand, Trinitarian author who has been living in Canada since 1970, evokes the Grenadian Revolution, which took place between 1979-1983 and the military occupation by the United States during the operation “Urgent Fury, in October 1983. In this paper we explore how Brand constructs what we named “topographic writing” to describe the process of artelization (Roger 2007) that every landscape entails, stressing the political struggles that this aestheticization hides.
