Safety implications of higher levels of automated vehicles: a scoping review
Automated vehicles (AVs) promise to improve road safety, reduce traffic congestion and emissions, and enhance mobility. However, evidence regarding their safety benefits has not been systematically investigated and documented. In this study, we utilise a scoping review approach to investigate and synthesise the existing literature on higher levels of AVs’ safety implications. This aids future relevant studies by identifying the research gaps and reporting the methodological approaches used. The review focused not only on peer-reviewed articles but also on grey literature to provide a comprehensive overview of the current research state. In total, 5724 articles were identified, and 4167 records were screened after duplicates and dual publications removal, from which 27 were found eligible for review. Ultimately, 24 studies met all the inclusion criteria and were considered for the review. The reported evidence was focused on changes in road safety levels after the deployment of AVs in transport networks. The data was extracted and charted by one reviewer using tables to create a descriptive summary of the results and address the scoping review's questions and objectives. In general, the findings suggest that AVs hold the potential to improve the overall safety on roads, although the existing evidence is not mainly based on real data but assumptions regarding vehicles’ capabilities and behaviour. The limited number of studies and the fact that all of them were published or conducted after 2014 indicate that the research on AVs’ safety impacts is just emerging.Accepted Author ManuscriptTransport and Plannin
Anxiety and influence in Nuruddin Farah and younger Somali writers
During his exile, Nuruddin Farah believed that he would return to a democratic Somalia once Muhammed Siyad Barre had been removed from power. However, this vision was lost when civil war followed the dictator’s fall. Since then, Farah has made several return visits to Somalia. He claims in interviews and articles that he continues to care about Somalia whereas others have abandoned the country. The emotional engagement that Farah shows in his book on Somali refugees, Yesterday, Tomorrow: Voices from the Somali Diaspora emerges again in his Past Imperfect trilogy. This can be seen in the ways in which older Somali characters interact with a younger generation, seeking to instruct, develop and protect them. This shows a certain anxiety about influence. It is as if Farah is attempting to re-assert his long-held position as the pre-eminent author and interpreter of Somalia and the Somali diaspora during a period in which there has been a proliferation of literary writing by younger Somalis. This essay examines Farah’s trajectory from exile to cosmopolitan writer and his anxiety in the Past Imperfect trilogy and other writing. It further considers whether there are constructive linkages between Farah’s work and that of selected younger Somali writers.
Makna Kebahagiaan dalam Lafadz al-Farah menurut Tafsir al-Maraghi
Happiness is a theme that people always talk about. What is its essence and what paths should be taken to get it. But not every human being can find an easy and correct path to achieve his or her goals of happiness. The word that means happiness in the Qur'an is mentioned using several words, faroha or al-farah as one of the words that means happiness is found in 22 verses with various derivations. To facilitate understanding of the lafadz, this research will focus on the meaning of happiness on the lafadz al-farah according to the interpretation of al-Maraghi. This study uses the method of literature or library research with descriptive analytical approach or thematic studies. The results of research and discussion obtained are that the meaning of happiness in lafadz al-farah is generally divided into two; happiness that is positive and happiness that is negative. Positive happiness, such as happiness that comes from the grace of Allah, is happiness that brings gratitude and joy. While negative happiness such as worldly happiness and happiness that makes us arrogant and proud of ourselves is happiness that is ephemeral, temporary and not infrequently also becomes a sin. Some of the meanings of happiness that the author gets from the verses with the word al-farah are; Happiness for disobeying Allah's commands, happiness in disobedience, happiness that causes pride and pride, happiness over the blessings of the world, happiness for the grace of Allah, and happiness over the suffering of others
Adversarial peace: the persistence of nuclear rivalries
Rivalry has been an essential element of the human story from the inception of life to the current interconnected globalized world. The central aim of this dissertation is to observe the persistence of adversarial relations between rivals with nuclear weapons. The central questions posed in this study are: why do nuclear rivalries persist, despite incentives to cooperate and opportunities to resolve the conflict? Furthermore, what explains the variation in the interactions between nuclear rivals? And, under what conditions do nuclear rivals cooperate with one another? This research project tackles these questions by focusing on the role of nuclear weapons in rivalry interaction and termination. To understand rivalries with nuclear weapons, I employ the concept of “adversarial peace” and highlight the persistence and cyclical pattern within nuclear rivalries. The core of the argument rests on the mutual vulnerability dilemma where both sides feel a profound psychological susceptibility to mutual annihilation and perceive that the other controls what the state values the most. In this way, strategic rivalries with nuclear weapons transition into a state of perpetual adversity. To test this argument, I employ a historical approach with a focus on the individual, regional and system level factors through in-depth historical case studies. My main cases are the US-USSR, and US-Russia and the India-Pakistan, and a mini-case study of Brazil and Argentina where the nuclear question was resolved and a protracted rivalry terminated.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesby Farah N. Javier Álvarez-Mon. “Platforms of Exaltation. Elamite Sculptural Reliefs from the Highlands: Kūl-e Farah VI”
Rather poorly preserved and carved on a boulder about 300 metres outside the ravine enclosing the five better-known Neo-Elamite reliefs at the open-air sanctuary of Kul-e Farah near Izeh, Kul-e Farah VI (KF VI) has tended to be overlooked or dismissed as an inferior quality production. In this article the author offers the first comprehensive description of the iconography of KF VI—a large-scale figure on a platform supported by platform bearers, followed by registers of worshippers of variou..

The Status of Women in Selected Novels by Nuruddin Farah
The thesis examines the status of women in Somalia as presented in the novels of Somali author Nuruddin Farah. Various topic areas, including clothing and appearance, education and job opportunities, marriage, childcare, clan structures, official laws and traditions, but also the influence of religion, are investigated in close detail. Taking into account political developments, each topic is traced from the colonial days through Siyad Barre’s dictatorship and the civil war until the present radically Muslim rule. Besides, differences in male and female views are included whenever possible. It can be seen that females have to face many obstacles unknown to males, but in spite of this, Farah generally describes women as self-confident and prepared to fight for equality and personal liberties. All in all, a positive development throughout time can be seen, however, Farah voices his worries concerning the attempts to establish a traditionally religionist state, which once again limits women’s freedom and officially places them below males in status. In conclusion, sexual discrimination is widespread in Somalia, but Farah illustrates women’s ways to avoid obstacles or, if this is impossible, to cope with what they cannot change. Their official status might be inferior to males’, but in reality, they often even run matters themselves. Farah certainly describes the women in his books as strong and self-determined, and generally shows them in a very positive light
