The use of erratic loads will result in frequency changes and make electrical equipment (loads) easily damaged. Changes in load according to the demands of consumer loads often occur in small-scale MHP. So this study analyzes the shape and configuration of the complement load that is suitable for use on a 1000 Watt MHP to maintain a constant rotation of the MHP engine. This study analyzes the amount of change in the metal plate surface needed to get a load of one hundred watts. The type of metal plate as the object of this research is one milli meter steinless steel plate which is made in the form of a rectangular geometric. The metal plates are arranged in parallel with each other and given an electric voltage and then dipped in water gradually while measuring the amount of current flowing in the experimental circuit. The water used is PAM water and enriched with table salt to reach 0.05% gram / ml salinity. This large current is converted into power that flows into water. The results of this measurement are analyzed in simple statistics to get the power value (Watt) of the broad union of stainless steel plates. The results show that the design of the complement load can be practically used to overcome changes in the 1000 Watt PLTM load with a load sensitivity of 0.45A equivalent to the electrode surface area of 362 mm2. The range of the ability to complement the load of this design results from 80% to 2% of the 1000 Watt PLTMH load. And it is not recommended to use a single pole electrode (single pole) because it will potentially cause electrical hazards around the 1000Watt PLTMH installation site

    Timetable Management Using Genetic Algorithms

Scheduling course timetables for a large array of courses is a very complex problem which often has to be solved manually by the center staff even though results are not always fully optimal. Timetabling being a highly constrained combinatorial problem, this work attempts to put into play the effectiveness of evolutionary techniques based on Darwin’s theories to solve the timetabling problem if not fully optimal but near optimal. Genetic Algorithm is a popular meta-heuristic that has been successfully applied to many hard combinatorial optimization problems which includes timetabling and scheduling problems. In this work, the course sets, halls and time allocations are represented by a multidimensional array on which a local search is performed and a combination of the direct representation of the timetable with heuristic crossover is made to ensure that fundamental constraints are not violated. Finally, the genetic algorithm was applied in the development of a viable timetabling system which was tested to demonstrate the variety of possible timetables that can be generated based on user specified constraint and requirements. Makassar is the center of government and business center in the province of South Sulawesi. The people of Makassar has a very high dependence on the use of electrical energy to meet their daily needs, both at home and at offices. The use of electrical energy which is quite high will cause an increase in customer bills every month. Therefore, this problem needs to be reduced by utilizing alternative energy sources. PLTS on grid is one of the solutions to reduce dependence on electrical energy from PLN. This research was carried out using a load simulation method based on the level of solar radiation in Makassar City at an installed power of 4500 VA. By using PLTS on grid the customer has two sources of electrical energy, from solar power and PLN line. The main source of electrical energy during the day is from on grid solar power and at night is from PLN line. If the power from the on grid solar power the day is insufficient to serve the load needs, PLN will automatically responsible for the electric power of the load. The simulation results show that the use of on-grid PLTS saves PLN's electricity consumption by 34.78% to 89.53%. These results illustrate that the potential for using on grid solar panels in the city of Makassar is very larg

Signal Characteristics of Land Mobile Satellites in Urban and Suburban Equatorial Regions: A Study of S/N Ratios in Fixed and Mobile Conditions

    No full text
The increasing demand for mobile communication services in Indonesia underscores the necessity for reliable satellite mapping systems, particularly in equatorial regions where empirical data is scarce. This study aims to fill this research gap by evaluating the signal strength and quality for land mobile satellites in Pare-Pare City and Sidrap Regency. Utilizing a cost-effective laptop-based system alongside a handheld GPS receiver, we conducted measurements under both fixed and mobile conditions at various locations. Our analysis, performed using Matlab R2023b, identified notable variations in Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), primarily ranging from 20 to 49 dBHz, with peak values of around 50 dBHz recorded in suburban areas. These findings indicate that local obstructions significantly affect GPS accuracy. The implications of this research are twofold: theoretically, it enriches the existing literature on GPS performance in equatorial environments, and practically, it offers actionable insights for optimizing satellite deployments to enhance communication reliability. By providing essential empirical evidence, this study represents a valuable contribution to the understanding of satellite communication dynamics in Indonesia, paving the way for more effective navigation and communication solutions in challenging equatorial settings

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
