    Sudarshan kriya yoga: Breathing for health

    Breathing techniques are regularly recommended for relaxation, stress management, control of psychophysiological states, and to improve organ function. Yogic breathing, defined as a manipulation of breath movement, has been shown to positively affect immune function, autonomic nervous system imbalances, and psychological or stress-related disorders. The aim of this study was to assess and provide a comprehensive review of the physiological mechanisms, the mind-body connection, and the benefits of Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) in a wide range of clinical conditions. Various online databases searched were Medline, Psychinfo, EMBASE, and Google Scholar. All the results were carefully screened and articles on SKY were selected. The references from these articles were checked to find any other potentially relevant articles. SKY, a unique yogic breathing practice, involves several types of cyclical breathing patterns, ranging from slow and calming to rapid and stimulating. There is mounting evidence to suggest that SKY can be a beneficial, low-risk, low-cost adjunct to the treatment of stress, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, stress-related medical illnesses, substance abuse, and rehabilitation of criminal offenders

    Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the tooth-supporting structures. The treatment of this condition is largely based on the removal of local factors and restoration of the bony architecture. Moreover, in the era of modern dentistry, successful implant therapy often requires sound osseous support. Traditionally, osseous surgery has been performed by either manual or motor-driven instruments. However, both these methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. Recently, a novel surgical approach using piezoelectric device has been introduced in the field of periodontology and oral implantology.     Efficiency of ultrasonography in swellings of orofacial region

    Introduction: Ultrasonography (USG) is found to be important in identifying various soft-tissue pathologies in the orofacial region. Therefore, its features should be studied and documented in these lesions so that a more appropriate provisional diagnosis can be made. Aim: This study aims to study ultrasonographic features in various kinds of swellings in the orofacial region. Materials and Methods: The study grouped consists of 30 patients of both sexes (20 males and 10 females) with an age range of 15–70 years complaining of swellings in the orofacial region. All the patients in the study were explained the need of tests and subjected to clinical, ultrasonographic, and histopathologic examination. Sonosite Micromaxx sonography machine was used with a linear array transducer of 13-6 MHz frequencies. Ultrasonographic diagnosis is then correlated with clinical and histopathologic diagnosis. Chi-square test and contingency coefficient tests were used. Results: A significant association was observed between clinical and ultrasonographic diagnoses (contingency = 0.872, P < 0.05) and between ultrasonographic and histopathologic diagnoses (contingency = 0.904, P < 0.05). There was 100% congruency between clinical diagnosis and ultrasonographic diagnosis in all the cases except in cases of cysts, abscess, and sialadenitis. Reliability of USG was found to be 97% in diagnosing all the cases with respect to histopathological diagnosis, while it was 90% with respect to clinical diagnosis. Conclusion: USG was found to be a reliable diagnostic modality in the diagnosis of orofacial swellings

    In the diagnosis and prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oral epithelial dysplasia, evaluation of mitotic figures (MFs) is often performed. Numerous techniques, like&nbsp;microscopy, flow cytometry, nucleotide radio labelling, as well as immuno-histochemistry, have been developed throughout time to evaluate the MFs. The most modern techniques are more precise for everyday usage, but because of time and money constraints, they are less practical. In the current research, mitotic figures in various stages of oral squamous cell carcinoma were examined using Haematoxylin and Eosin stain, Crystal Violet stain, Giemsa stain and Toluidine Blue stain. Based on statistical comparison, the number of mitotic figures seen in each of the four distinct stains was compared

    Gorlin-Goltz syndrome (GGS) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder. The disease shows multiple organ involvement with variable clinical presentation. Thus a multidisciplinary approach is required for its prompt clinical diagnosis and management of this condition. This paper highlights a case of GGS presenting in a young male patient with cranial, facial, dermatological, dental and skeletal involvement. The diagnosis of the syndrome was based on its clinical presentation, radiological features and histopathological findings.     Utilização de aparelho ultrassônico piezoelétrico para cirurgia de enxerto interposicional em região posterior de maxila: relato de caso.

Odontologia.O objetivo deste trabalho é descrever o uso do aparelho piezoelétrico para osteotomia em uma cirurgia de enxerto interposicional. Este aparelho foi inicialmente utilizado na área médica e posteriormente, adaptado para odontologia como alternativa ao uso de brocas e microsserras. Sua crescente utilização se deve as características que a piezocirurgia oferece como um corte ósseo mais retilíneo, um campo cirúrgico mais limpo, processo inflamatório menos intenso e um tratamento menos desconfortável para o paciente. Especialmente na área da implantodontia, o uso do aparelho ultrassônico piezoelétrico aumentou, como nas cirurgias de elevação de seio maxilar, lateralização do nervo alveolar inferior, obtenção de enxertos autógenos e em uma das técnicas de reconstrução de rebordos alveolares chamada de: enxerto interposicional, esta permite que rebordos sejam reconstruídos verticalmente, para que assim sejam capazes de receber implantes ósseo integrados. Na explicitação da técnica de enxerto interposicional, em região posterior esquerda de maxila, este trabalho aferiu clinicamente as características que o aparelho ultrassônico piezoelétrico oferece e que são relatadas em outros trabalhos, concluindo então, que este equipamento é uma excelente alternativa à utilização de instrumentais rotatórios e manuais tradicionais
