Structural and functional characterization of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) synthetase from Pichia ciferrii
S-adenosylmethionine synthetase (SAM-s) catalyzes the synthesis of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), which is essential for methylation, transcription, proliferation, and production of secondary metabolites. Here SAM-s from Pichia ciferrii were selectively cloned using RNA CapFishing and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). The putative full-length cDNA of SAM-s encoded a 383 amino acid protein (42.6 kDa), which has highly conserved metal binding sites, a phosphate-binding site, and functionally important motifs. The corresponding enzyme was over-expressed in a heterologous host of Pichia pastoris, and then purified to a homogenous form. Enzyme kinetics, immunoblotting, circular dichroism (CD), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and molecular modeling were conducted to characterize the SAM-s from P. ciferrii. Structural and functional studies of SAM-s will provide important insights for industrial applications.open
Chinese literary works translated into Baba Malay: a bibliographical study
Analyses 68 unique titles of Baba translated works published between 1889 and 1950. The titles are held in the libraries of the University of Malaya (UM), Science University Malaysia (USM), National University of Malaysia (UKM), the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), National University of Singapore (NUS), National Library of Singapore (NLS) and the British Library (BL). The results reveal three periods of active publication of Baba translated works. A total of 18 works were translated before World War I, followed by 10 just after the war, 39 titles were published before the break of the World War II and 1 was identified in 1950. There were 103 persons involved in the 68 translated works, some of whom are responsible for more than one title. The most prominent translators were Chan Kim Boon, Wan Boon Seng, Seow Chin San and Lee Seng Poh. Some of the translators were also be editors, illustrators or editors. There were 31 publishers and 21 printing presses involved, all were located in Singapore. The most active publishers were Wan Boon Seng, Kim Seck Chy Press and Nanyang Romanised Malay Book Co. The translated works mainly cover historical classical Chinese stories, chivalrous stories, romances, folklore and legends. The titles were priced between 10 cents to 2 dollars in Straits currency. The University of Malaya Library held the largest number of unique title (62) out of which 15 were unique titles

Kim Gordon - no icon
As cofounder of legendary rock band Sonic Youth, best-selling author, and celebrated artist, Kim Gordon is one of the most singular and influential figures of the modern era. This personally curated scrapbook is an edgy and evocative portrait of Gordon s life, art, and style. Spanning from her childhood on Californian surf beaches in the 60s and 70s to New York s downtown art and music scene in the 80s and 90s where Sonic Youth was born. Through unpublished personal photographs, magazine and newspaper clippings, fashion editorials, and advertising campaigns, interspersed with Gordon s song lyrics, writings, artworks, private objects, and ephemera, this book demonstrates how Kim Gordon has been a role model for generations of women and me

A note on multiple imputation for method of moments estimation
Multiple imputation is widely used for estimation in situations where there are missing data. Rubin (1987) provided an easily applicable formula for multiple imputation variance estimation, but its validity requires the congeniality condition of Meng (1994), which may not be satisfied for method of moments estimation. We give the asymptotic bias of Rubin's variance estimator when method of moments estimation is used in the complete-sample analysis for each imputed dataset. A new variance estimator based on over-imputation is proposed to provide asymptotically valid inference in this case. This is a pre-copyedited, author-produced PDF of an article accepted for publication in Biometrika following peer review. High-throughput in vitro processing of human primary microRNA by the recombinant microprocessor
© 2021 The Author(s)We describe a protocol to conduct a high-throughput in vitro processing assay, using 1,881 human primary microRNAs (pri-miRNAs) and recombinant Microprocessor complex, followed by deep sequencing library generation. This comprehensive approach allows the mapping of cleavage sites and the measurement of processing efficiency of a large number of substrates simultaneously. Our protocol is readily modifiable to investigate the effects of chemicals and regulatory proteins. Moreover, cis-acting elements can be examined by replacing the wild-type pri-miRNAs with mutant variants. For complete details on the use and execution of this profile, please refer to Kim et al. Tools for interactive multiattribute decisionmaking with incompletely identified information
The aim of this paper is to present tools or techniques for an interactive multiattribute decisionmaking with the decision maker's incomplete information. That is: (1) We formally describe mathematical models under certainty and uncertainty for establishing pairwise dominance, where the incomplete information becomes the set of constraints in the model. (2) We present a description on styles of incomplete parameter value information. (3) The characteristic of a weak dominance is described. When the decision maker is not willing or able to provide more information on parameters, the weak dominance technique is useful for a final choicemaking. (4) We propose a dominance graph and also present an algorithm of generating the dominance graph based on the information of pairwise dominance. The dominance graph compactly displays the dominance structure of all alternatives, thus it can be used for aiding the selection of preferable alternatives. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science B.V
