The Erwin Lichtenstein Collection documents the work of Erwin Lichtenstein as an author. The bulk of the archival collection is in reference to his book "Die Juden der Freien Stadt Danzig unter der Herrschaft des Nationalsozialismus 1933-1945". The correspondence with Sam Echt, Werner Feilchenfeld, Ernst Loops and others reflect the response to Erwin Lichtenstein's publication. Noteworthy with regard to the book is the correspondence between Günter Grass and Erwin Lichtenstein. Although the bulk of the documents consists of correspondence, the collection also includes newspaper articles and book reviews, corrections and changes and the original manuscript of the aforementioned book.Walter Friedlaender ; Herbert Perlman (1948) ; Dr. Ludwig Hollaender (1935) ; deportations and death of Max Lichtenstein in Theresienstadt ; sister Kaethe Lichtenstein ; dissertation of Max Lichtenstein ; Rabbi Neuhaus ; Max Vogelstein and Hermann Vogelstein ; Max Fuerst ; John Vogelstein ; Trott von Solz ; Julie Braun-Vogelstein ; Blumenfeld, Diana ; Turkow, Jonas ; Hamburger, Ernst ; Hollaender, LudwigErwin Lichtenstein was born February 16, 1901 in Koenigsberg (today Kaliningrad, Russia). <p>Felix Schilz reported in his PhD Thesis [May 2006, http://webdoc.sub.gwdg.de/diss/2006/schilz/schilz.pdf] DNA analyses of ancient skeletons found in the Lichtenstein Cave of the Harz mountains in central Germany. Since this important information was at the time not available in English, the author wrote an English summary of it in March of <strong>2008</strong>. This summary focused on the data of his thesis which is relevant to Genetic Genealogy.  </p

The Berlin Shadow: Living with the Ghosts of the Kindertransport

The book (original working title: The journey in Reverse) is a piece of prose fiction with photographs. It is based upon a journey I took with my father to Berlin to retrace the route he took on the 'Kindertransport' in 1939. The journey allowed him to mourn whilst we visited the sites and places of his persecution. It also led to an understanding that escape and trauma can lead to profound changes in the person, most of which are damaging but some of which are beneficial. The book also examines the effects the event had on his children, particularly the author

The relationship between phoneme perception and production

Twenty-eight typically developing preschool children were tested in 2 experiments. In a perception experiment, the children heard phonologically minimal quartets of words and chose which of 4 pictures matched the target word (e.g., selecting a picture of a snail from among pictures of snail, sail, nail, and mail). In a production experiment, they repeated the target word (e.g., snail). These experiments revealed evidence of a link between perception and production at age 4 and 5, but not at age 3, suggesting that the link between speech perception and production develops during the preschool years.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Aliza Lichtenstei

Reproductive characteristics of the viviparous lizard (Zootoca vivipara Lichtenstein)

Kako bih utvrdila njihovu reproduktivnu strategiju, sakupila sam gravidne ženke i držala ih u terariju sve do izlijeganja mladih. Bilježila sam promjene mase ženki prije i poslije polijeganja jaja, te masu i veličinu jaja i tek izleglih mladunaca. Istraživanje je pokazalo da veće ženke imaju veća legla i veće i teže potomstvo, dok rezultati t-testa pokazuju da oviparne ženke imaju veća legla, veću srednju masu i srednje SVL vrijednosti mladunaca.Viviparous lizard, Zootoca vivipara Lichtenstein 1823 is wide-distributed reptile but data on it’s distribution in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina is scanty. It is the only lacertid lizard with two modes of reproduction, oviparous and ovoviviparous. Two geographically distinct populations were studied. One from Vlašić (BIH; Zootoca vivipara vivipara Von Jacquin, 1787 subspecies) and other from Spačva (CRO; considered to be Zootoca vivipara pannonica Lac & Kluch, 1968). Gravid females were collected from sampling sites, to establish their reproductive mode. They were put into terraria until juveniles hatched. Data on female body mass change (before and after oviposition and parturition respectively), size and mass of both eggs and hatchlings were taken. Population from Vlašić was ovoviviparous while population from Spačva was oviparous. This research also proved heavier and bigger females to have larger clutch size and hatchlings with larger SVL size and bigger mass. Results obtained from t-test showed that that oviparous females have larger clutch size and hatchlings with bigger average SVL size and average body mass

// Autor: Peter Czoik // Datum: 2016Englische Version: The "Frauendienst" verse novel, written around the middle of the 13th century, is the fictional autobiography of the Styrian ministerial Ulrich von Liechtenstein, who is attested as a truchsess in 1244, marshal under Ottokar II of Bohemia in 1267 and state judge for Styria in 1272. The poetry includes 58 "Minne" courtly love songs by the author, which have found their way into the "Great Heidelberg or Manesse Codex" (Heidelberg, University Library, Cpg 848). Besides this, there are tournament descriptions, three reflections on the theory of the "Minne" song writing style as well as seven letters, three of them in prose. The songs particularly stand out in the last part. While the songs, letters and reflections on the "Minne" song writing style correspond to the ideal of courtly love, the epic parts are all comical. The comic self-exposure of the first-person narrator emphasises the artificial, theoretical, and unreal aspect of these courtly love songs. Ulrich's "Frauendienst" is only preserved in this manuscript, apart from two fragments. The text is written in a simple, hasty book script in two columns with separated verses, the song verses are continuous as usual. Red headings and section initials adorn the handwriting. // Autor: Peter Czoik // Datum: 201

Personal music documents of Pavel Josef Vejvanovský as part of the Lichtenstein collection

The core of the Kroměříž music collection, which is currently managed by the Olomouc Museum of Art, Archdiocesan Museum in Kroměříž, is a repertoire from the period of the episcopacy of Karl von Lichtenstein-Castelcorno. Generally, the Lichtenstein music collection is associated with the operations of the bishop's music ensemble. The key figure in the practical operation of the ensemble was Pavel Josef Vejvanovský. His activity as a copyist and author may help identify the individual layers of the collection. The research of the provenance of the music prints and manuscripts involved a detailed examination of the preserved covers inscribed by Vejvanovský's hand. Many of them bear characteristics signs, based on which it was possible to identify several manuscripts carrying common features of systematisation. The Lichtenstein music collection consists predominantly of manuscripts; there are only a few music prints. A handwritten exlibris entered in the Orlando di Lasso's compositions refers to Vejvanovský's ownership; the same is written also in a book of toccatas by Girolamo Frescobaldi, which is now a part of the collection of the Brno Augustinians

What Do Quarterly Workforce Dynamics Tell Us About Wal-Mart? Evidence from New Stores in Pennsylvania

In this paper I seek to better inform debate regarding Wal-Mart’s local impact on wages, and employment dynamics by combining data on Wal-Mart stores with the recently release Quarterly Workforce Indicators provided by the US Census. Use a panel of Pennsylvania counties, who saw entrance of a Wal-Mart in 2002, I find a new store has no effect on existing employee wages in the retail sector. However, new retail sector hires experience a roughly 0.50anhourincreaseintotalcompensationinthequarterWalMartenters.TheentranceofaWalMartdrawsemployeesfromexistingbusinesses,reducingjobcreationwhileincreasingnetjobflows.WalMartalsohasalongertermeffectonnetemploymentofalittlemorethan50jobsinatotalyear.ThisemploymentfindingisquitesimilartofindingsinHicksandWilburn[2001]andBasker[2005].Perhapsmostimportantly,WalMartentranceisassociatedwithadramaticdeclineinretailsectorjobturnovers(over40percent).ThisresultchallengesmuchofthereceivedwisdomofWalMartsroleintheretailsector.ThepolicyimplicationsofthesefindingsechothoseofKenStone,whocautionsagainstactivistpolicyinsupport,oragainstWalMartatthelocallevel.Disclosure:TheauthorofthisstudyownsnostockinWalMartoranyrelatedfirm(otherthanthatheldbythemutualfundcompaniesVanguardandTIAACREF).Ihaveperformednopaidconsultingservicesfromanyretailfirm,itsdevelopers,localgovernmentsorrelatedentitiessince2002(thoughIcontinuetofieldfrequentquestionsonmyearlierresearch).IhavereceivednohonorariarelatedtoWalMartresearch(otherthantravelcostspaidbytheFederalReserveBankofRichmondin2001).Inshort,exceptforroughly0.50 an hour increase in total compensation in the quarter Wal-Mart enters. The entrance of a Wal- Mart draws employees from existing businesses, reducing job creation while increasing net job flows. Wal-Mart also has a longer term effect on net employment of a little more than 50 jobs in a total year. This employment finding is quite similar to findings in Hicks and Wilburn [2001] and Basker [2005]. Perhaps most importantly, Wal-Mart entrance is associated with a dramatic decline in retail sector job turnovers (over 40 percent). This result challenges much of the received wisdom of Wal-Mart’s role in the retail sector. The policy implications of these findings echo those of Ken Stone, who cautions against activist policy in support, or against Wal-Mart at the local level. Disclosure: The author of this study owns no stock in Wal-Mart or any related firm (other than that held by the mutual fund companies Vanguard and TIAA-CREF). I have performed no paid consulting services from any retail firm, its developers, local governments or related entities since 2002 (though I continue to field frequent questions on my earlier research). I have received no honoraria related to Wal-Mart research (other than travel costs paid by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in 2001). In short, except for roughly 1,500 purchases of diapers annual since 1999 I have no financial relationship with Wal-Mart or any affiliate that I am aware of.Wal-Mart, Pennsylvania, Quarterly Workforce Indicators
