Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Alzheimer e os desafios dos cuidados de enfermagem ao idoso e ao seu cuidador familiar
Get PDFIntroduction: In recent years, there has been an increase in life expectancy, accompanied by aging and a higher incidence of chronic degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease. This progressive condition leads to dependence, loss of autonomy, cognitive impairment, memory changes, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and behavioral changes, necessitating the constant presence of a caregiver. Objective: To describe the role of primary care nurses in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and to understand the care needs of patients and their caregivers. Materials and Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted, including scientific articles in the SciELO, LILACS, and PubMed databases. Articles available in full, in Portuguese or English, were included, and opinion pieces, editorials, and duplicates were excluded. Results: The initial search identified 556 publications (3 in SciELO, 547 in LILACS, and 6 in PubMed). After screening on the Rayyan platform, 40 duplicates were removed, leaving 516 articles for title and abstract analysis, of which 498 were excluded for not meeting the eligibility criteria. Eighteen articles were evaluated in full, resulting in the exclusion of 12 studies, and, ultimately, six articles were considered eligible for review. The studies highlighted that caring for older adults with Alzheimer's disease presents significant challenges, especially in Primary Health Care, due to limited professional training, difficulty in early diagnosis, caregiver burden, and structural and resource constraints. Cultural barriers, disease stigma, and fragile continuity of care were also identified, affecting the comprehensiveness of care. Final Conclusion: Although professionals recognize Alzheimer's disease as a neurodegenerative condition that affects cognitive functions, there is a gap in the implementation of specific care strategies that effectively improve the quality of life of patients and support their families. The research highlights the need for investment in ongoing training for nursing professionals, the development of specific public policies, and the creation of structured support networks for caregivers, promoting more humane, effective, and sustainable care.Introdução: Nos últimos anos, observou-se aumento na expectativa de vida da população, acompanhado pelo envelhecimento e pela maior incidência de doenças crônicas degenerativas, como a doença de Alzheimer. Essa condição progressiva leva o indivíduo à dependência, à perda de autonomia, ao comprometimento cognitivo, a alterações na memória, a sintomas neuropsiquiátricos e mudanças comportamentais, tornando necessária a presença constante de um cuidador. Objetivo: Descrever a atuação dos enfermeiros da Atenção Primária à Saúde frente à doença de Alzheimer e compreender as necessidades de cuidados dos pacientes e de seus cuidadores. Materiais e Métodos: Realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura, com levantamento de artigos científicos nas bases SciELO, LILACS e PubMed. Foram incluídos artigos disponíveis na íntegra, em português ou inglês, e excluídos artigos de opinião, editoriais e duplicados. Resultados: A busca inicial identificou 556 publicações (3 na SciELO, 547 na LILACS e 6 na PubMed). Após triagem na plataforma Rayyan, 40 duplicatas foram removidas, restando 516 artigos para análise de título e resumo, dos quais 498 foram excluídos por não atenderem aos critérios de elegibilidade. Os estudos evidenciaram que o cuidado ao idoso com Alzheimer apresenta desafios significativos, especialmente na Atenção Primária à Saúde, devido à limitada capacitação profissional, dificuldade no diagnóstico precoce, sobrecarga dos cuidadores e restrições estruturais e de recursos. Barreiras culturais, estigma da doença e fragilidade na continuidade do cuidado também foram identificadas, afetando a integralidade da assistência. Conclusão: Embora os profissionais reconheçam a doença de Alzheimer como uma condição neurodegenerativa que afeta funções cognitivas, observa-se lacuna na aplicação de estratégias específicas de cuidado que melhorem efetivamente a qualidade de vida dos pacientes e o suporte às famílias. A pesquisa evidencia a necessidade de investimentos em capacitação contínua de profissionais de enfermagem, desenvolvimento de políticas públicas específicas e criação de redes de apoio estruturadas para os cuidadores, promovendo um cuidado mais humanizado, eficaz e sustentável
