Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Blended Learning: A New Challenge for Pakistani University Students
No full textThe aim of this study was to examine the standpoints of BS 4 years program (BSCS) students in Pakistani universities regarding the issues and challenges they face. The study utilized a descriptive survey method with a quantitative approach to quantify and measure students\u27 perceptions and issues related to blended learning in education. The study collected data from 219 students out of 482 enrolled in the BS 4 years program (BSCS) at three public universities in Pakistan in the 2022 academic year. A questionnaire with a three-point Likert scale was used to gather data, which was then analyzed using frequencies, percentages, and diagrams. The findings showed that most students had a positive view of blended learning, but they also encountered various issues, such as lack of time, insufficient skills and support for proper use, lack of training, and unavailability of Learning Management Software (LMS) for technological learning tools. The study suggests the need for the development of institutional policies for the effective use of blended learning in universities and the implementation of training and skill development programs for teachers to integrate technology in their teaching
ENHANCING TEACHERS’ EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING THROUGH PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT; STRATEGIES AND IMPLICATIONS FOR EDUCATIONAL POLICY
Get PDFThis study aims to identify effective forms of parental involvement in fostering teachers' emotional well-being and to explore its implications for educational policy. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method conducted at elementary schools at Lahore. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that emotional support in parental involvement, contributions of parental involvement to enhancing teachers' job satisfaction, and parental participation in school activities as a support for teachers' emotional well-being play crucial roles in supporting teachers' emotional welfare. Recognition and appreciation of parental involvement were also found to be significant motivational factors. This research contributes by reinforcing the understanding of the importance of synergy between schools, parents, and the community in creating a positive and supportive learning environment. However, the study is limited to a single location and does not account for broader variations in gender and age. Therefore, further research is needed to obtain a more comprehensive perspective and to support more targeted educational policy-making
Incorporating Hybrid Learning Strategies to Improve Teaching Methods in Higher Education Environments

This innovative approach combines traditional classroom methods with online elements, harnessing the benefits of both face-to-face instruction and digital learning. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which blended learning is integrated into the teaching practices of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Pakistan. Using a multi-methodological approach with an explanatory sequential design, the research focuses on educators from public universities through a comprehensive sampling process. Primary data collection tools, including questionnaires and interviews, reveal a positive attitude among teachers towards the integration of technology in education. Most educators are proficient in various software applications and have strong internet skills. However, the study also points out that universities are still in the early stages of awareness about blended learning implementation. The findings emphasize the need for coordinated efforts to enhance the adoption of blended learning, highlighting the crucial role of universities in providing additional technological infrastructure for smooth course delivery. The research calls for the explicit inclusion of blended learning in universities\u27 strategic plans to ensure thorough and well-defined integration
