    Development of organosilicon cross-coupling reaction

    No full text
Use of palladium catalyzed cross-couplings have found widespread use in the pharmaceutical industry and there is a significant ongoing effort to either improve or devise new synthetic strategies to help build complex biologically active compounds. This is a study for advancing the use of silanols and silanolate cross-coupling in modern organic chemistrySubmission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2017-12-01The student, Zain Yousaf, accepted the attached license on 2015-09-30 at 16:34.The student, Zain Yousaf, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2015-09-30 at 16:41.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2015-10-02 at 09:28.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #8703 on 2016-03-08 at 11:05:08Made available in DSpace on 2016-03-08T17:21:44Z (GMT). In this article the writer reveals that many prominent Punjabi Poets wrote Poetic Commentary ofSura Yousaf (Para of Holy Quran). Some of them present their translation or commentary along withQuranic text while many of them only narrated the story of Hazrat Yousaf Alaihus Salam using poeticform of masnavi. The author of the article selected an unknown Punjabi poet naming Syed GhulamMustafa who published his commentary in 1303 after Hijra and 1886 A.D. The author presented hisanalytical study of this book and highlighted the poets great. Contribution towards Quranic Translationsduring colonial Punjab. The writers of Punjabi literary histories are still unaware of his book

Exploiting the Reconfigurability of ρ-VEX Processor for Real-Time Robotic Applications

    No full text
Autonomous mobile robots generally have limited computational power on-board, and they have to perform their tasks in real-time in order to interact with their surroundings effectively. Therefore, there is a need to utilize the available computational capabilities efficiently. The ρ-VEX is a run-time reconfigurable VLIW processor. This unique processor allows separation of its issue lanes to form independently operating processing cores. Switching between these configurations during run-time allows optimizing the computing resources for the task(s) it is performing. In this project FreeRTOS is ported to the ρ-VEX processor and a control layer is developed. FreeRTOS manages the applications based on given real time parameters. The control layer decides the number of active cores (hardware contexts) and issue width of each core to best match the processing requirements of the applications. In this way, FreeRTOS and the control layer together can reconfigure the number of active cores at run-time. This is a very unique feature of this thesis project and can not be found in any other multicore implementation of FreeRTOS. The control layer along with FreeRTOS provides the user a facility to run applications under real-time constraints and with the best possible efficiency. In order to evaluate the performance, the overhead of the FreeRTOS is quantified and a performance comparison is made between several configurations of this system. Moreover, impact of reconfigurability of the ρ-VEX on the schedulability of real-time applications is measured and it is concluded that (indeed) reconfigurability of ρ-VEX improves the schedulability of the real-time applicationsElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer ScienceComputer Engineerin

Tourism Impact on Water Quality in Swat during Winter and Summer Seasons : Tourism Impact on Water Quality in Swat during Winter and Summer Seasons

Tourism may be a source of income or it may pose harm to the environment. This study examines the effects of unplanned tourism on the degradation of essential resource like clean water. This study includes fieldwork and lab analysis to evaluate the consequences of tourism activities on water quality. Forty-eight samples were analyzed for physicochemical and microbiological characteristics collected from four sampling sites. During the busiest travel seasons, tourist destinations samples had greater amounts of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), conductivity, chloride, and coliform bacteria than specimens from non-tourist and off-season locations. TDS varying from 87. 34 mg/l to 112. 29 mg/l to 223. 26 mg/l; conductivity ranged from 150. 32 µs/cm to 199 µs/cm, increasing to 307 µs/cm; and chloride varied from 5. 37 mg/l to 7. 1 mg/l, and reached up to 18. 89 mg/l. The range of fecal coliform bacteria was 1. 0 to 3. 6 (MPN/100ml), while the range of coliform bacteria was 1. 0 to 2. 8 (MPN/100ml) and up to 5. 1 (MPN/100ml). More than half (52%) of the hotels evaluated had inadequate waste management procedures, which led to waste being discharged into nearby rivers and streams. The industry needs environmentally responsible strategies, as suggested by the 76% of travelers who support sustainable tourism practices. The findings demonstrate a direct correlation between rising tourism and deteriorating water quality. Keywords: Tourism, water quality, physicochemical, microbiological analysis, mitigations

Examining Slavery\u27s Architectural Finishes: The Importance of Interdisciplinary Investigations of Humble Spaces

    No full text
This thesis studies the evidence of architectural finishes in slave dwellings as a vehicle for understanding their lives, experiences and culture. Reviewing the finishes analyses of slave quarters in eight case studies, the author examines evidence of original finishes and observes how they can inform our understanding of slavery, including the possibility of a transfer of color traditions from Africa. The author also considers architectural and archaeological investigations performed on slave dwellings as a supplement to understanding these spaces and the use of African culture as a form of cultural resistance. The limited but important evidence underlines the need for additional research on the experience of slave life as drawn from material evidence

Political distinction in the British anti-capitalist movement

This article argues that Bourdieu's theory of practice provides a useful and dynamic framework which may be used to examine the reproduction of political practice. I use the Bourdieusian theoretical model to analyse and interpret data collected from 30 semi-structured interviews with British anti-capitalist activists from a range of anarchist and socialist political organizations and networks. The interviews reveal a clear case of political distinction between anarchists and socialists. The political history, political methods, and ideology of the activists become embodied and routinized over time. This explains why and how there is a durable ideological division which is consistently reproduced over and over again within sections of the British anti-capitalist movement. © The Author(s) 2011

Travel is part of human nature. He wants to get acquainted with the culture and way of life of the place where he is traveling. The First travelogue is “Ajaibat e Farang” the author of which is Yousaf Hussain Kambal posh. After him Sir Syed Ahmed khan, Allama Shibli Noumani and Muhammad Hussain Azad also wrote travelogues. The twinth century remained popolur because of travel. Travelogues of Shafiq ur Rehman, Ibn e Insha and Begum Akhtar Riaz ud Din came to light during this period. Women travelogues Sheen Farukh, Bushra Rehman and Parveen Atif. Parveen Atif wrote two Urdu travelogues “Kiran Titli Or Bagoly” and “Taper Wasni”.Her travelogues are beautiful gift in intellectual terms. &nbsp

Forced migration, human trafficking, and human security

    No full text
This article situates forced migration amid intersections of burgeoning human insecurities that force increasing numbers of people to leave their homes and become susceptible to exploitation. Drawing upon data on trafficking in Pakistan, the author argues that marginalized groups often go through multiple migrations that can include episodes of trafficking for sex, labor, or other purposes. The disjuncture between policies and realities on the ground, and the trend of current interventions do little to address the human security of these migrants. The article emphasizes that the human security frame provides a more nuanced human rights-based approach to analyze this form of migration and address the root causes and risks associated with the forced displacement of people. </jats:p
