Progressive deficits in retrograde axon transport precede degeneration of motor axons in acrylamide neuropathy
Single injection of acrylamide (1.3 mmol/kg, i.p.) inhibited retrograde axon transport of [125I]tetanus toxin in hen sensory and motor axons. Retrograde axon transport deficits appeared within hours of dosing with acrylamide. The inhibitory effect of acrylamide on retrograde axon transport was transient since transport deficits were not detectable 35 h after dosing. Acrylamide impaired the retrograde movement but not the uptake of [125I]tetanus toxin in the axon. Multiple doses of acrylamide (0.42 mmol/kg, i.p.) induced progressive clinical signs of acrylamide neuropathy that correlated with increasing deficits in retrograde axon transport of [125I]tetanus toxin to ventral spinal cord. Deficits were also observed in sensory neurons but were not statistically significant. Accumulated decrements in retrograde axon transport may be the underlying cause of degeneration of motor axons in acrylamide neuropathy in fowl

Using collaborative research methodologies in humanitarian supply chains
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop an existing collaborative research methodology process (Sabri, 2018), contextualise it for application in humanitarian supply chains and test it empirically. Design/methodology/approach: Building on collaborative research methodology and humanitarian supply chain literature, the Sabri’s (2018) collaborative research methodology process is further developed to comprise eight phases of collaborative research contextualised for the humanitarian supply chain domain. The process is applied in a collaborative research case of academia–practitioner knowledge co-creation in a humanitarian supply chain setting, focussing on environmental sustainability improvement. The collaborative case analysis suggests a number of refinements to the elements of the process. This study undertook two cycles of academia–practitioner collaborative research. Findings: In testing the process, a noticeable improvement in the collaboration among different humanitarian stakeholders was observed, leading to improved stakeholder management. The implementation improved the sustainability awareness and social inclusion of the affected population. Rurality, remoteness, security issues and resistance of field staff against change were among the main challenges for supply chain researchers to engage in collaborative research in the humanitarian domain. Originality/value: The paper addresses the rigour‒relevance‒reflectiveness debate in the humanitarian supply chain domain. A collaborative research methodology process derived from action research is further developed using humanitarian literature, and then it is applied in a humanitarian logistics case focussed on environmental sustainability. The present collaborative research process facilitates engaged scholarship among the humanitarian stakeholders, as the researchers’ roles move from observatory to participatory knowledge broker

K-Fuse: Credit card fraud detection based on a classification method with a priori class partitioning and a novel feature selection strategy
Online transactions have become the dominant and most popular form of online payment in today's digital economy. Due to the growing popularity of e-commerce and the convenience it offers, both consumers and businesses are rapidly adopting online transactions. Notably, credit cards have become one of the most popular and standard online payment methods. However, it should be noted that credit card transactions are not without challenges. In particular, detecting and preventing fraudulent transactions is a major concern of the online payment system. It is difficult to find an effective detection model that can detect the new patterns created by fraudsters, due to the constant evolution of their methods to exploit the vulnerability of current security protocols. These fraud patterns are evolving and may not correspond to existing documented models, leading to a reduction in their identification. In addition, the customer's behavior can affect the model detection as it is susceptible to change based on factors such as economic conditions, trends, and individual circumstances. When consumers deviate from their typical behavior, the model may generate false alerts, thereby reducing its ability to differentiate between legitimate and fraudulent transactions. This article presents a new supervised detection model, called K-Fuse, which introduces an unsupervised phase in order to detect fraud patterns that may correspond to innovative models introduced by fraudsters. K-Fuse is a supervised classification method that fuses three steps consisting of (i) unsupervised clustering to identify hidden patterns of transactions in a dataset, (ii) a novel feature selection criterion based on the unsupervised results, and (iii) supervised classification to exploit the results of clustering and feature selection to predict new transactions as fraudulent or legitimate
A genuine scholar, an outstanding intellectual figure: Sabri Fehmi Ülgener
Sabri Ülgener ülkemizin yetiştirdiği, bir elin parmakları kadar az sayıdaki değerli ilim adamından biridir. Ülgener is also one of the leading figures of the Conservative Thought in pursuit of understanding ourselves and shaping the future in light of the history, tradition and morality. In this paper, we will firstly talk about Sabri Ülgener’s life and versatile character; then his basic works will be discussed with a focus on his methodology and mentality
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
