REVISITING PERSPECTIVES AND INSIGHTS OF PEOPLE OF THE BOOK
The inquiry regarding the People of the Book has long constituted a pivotal aspect of the comparative study of religion. Consequently, numerous Muslim and European scholars have devoted considerable attention to the People of the Book and their role as the custodians of sacred texts. This paper holds significance as it reassesses the nature of the People of the Book as understood within the Qur’an and Islamic religious tradition. The Quran identifies Jews and Christians as the People of the Book (Ahl al-Kitāb), acknowledged as the guardians of the Torah and the Injil. Rather than being classified as polytheists (kāfir mushrik), they are classified as misbelievers (kāfir kitāb). They are thus subject to specific Islamic regulations relating to marriage (al-nikah), poll tax (jizyah), animal slaughter (dhabīhah), dietary provisions (ta‘ām), and greetings (salām). An analysis conducted by Muslim scholars provides a nuanced and intricate depiction of the People of the Book within the Quran, underscoring the necessity for further investigation into this subject. This paper incorporates both classical and contemporary Muslim scholarship to clarify this matter. The research ultimately posits that the People of the Book concept offers a valuable framework for innovative and substantial adaptation to local and regional societies
Role of economic, and social parameters affecting life satisfaction and happiness during pre and post Covid era: a study with Marx’s perspective
A cognitive, objective, and subjective evaluation of the judgment
of one’s perspective of looking at life defines as life satisfaction
and happiness. There is a strong association between life satisfaction,
joy, and external parameters, including environmental and
socioeconomic factors and green innovation technologies. Marx’s
theory on life satisfaction provides an exciting insight and defines
that economic resources are necessary to live comfortably. The
core objective of this paper is to examine the effects of contributing
parameters concerning life satisfaction and happiness (LSH)
in China from 2005 to 2020. For this purpose, data collected for
the dependent variable collect World Happiness Index and World
Bank official website. Nine independent variables related to LSH
discuss freedom to make life choices (FMLC); GDP growth; Social
contribution (SC); Employment rate (ER); Social support (SS);
Innovation and development (ID); Life expectancy (LE); Coverage
of social safety (CSS); High qualification (HQ). The maximum LSH
value is 5.77, with a mean value of 5.13. The highest coefficient
correlation value with LSH is CO2, with a positive correlation coefficient
value of 0.80, followed by GDPG, with a negative coefficient
value of 0.80. PC1 explains 76.74% of results, whereas MLR
produces 0.91 R2 (p-value: 0.093, Residual standard error: 0.181).
There is a need to understand correlates and determinants in further
detail to set up a framework that enables policy-makers to
incorporate well-being and life satisfaction measures in carving
new public policies
TOWARDS HALALAN TOYYIBA IMPLEMENTATION IN MALAYSIA: THE APPLICATION OF AL-JALLALAH, ISTIHALAH AND ISTIBRAK CONCEPT IN CURRENT ISSUES CONCERNING WATER-BASED HALAL JURISDICTION IN MALAYSIA
Halalan Toyyiba is a principle originally introduced in Islam to ensure that all points of the production process are clean and free of contamination. The Islamic faith places food in very high regard, whatever comes into our stomachs will be accounted for in the afterlife. This principle of Halalan Toyyiba expands into other food-related aspects such as water-based products including agriculture, aquaculture as well as modern-based applications including medicine, pharmaceuticals and farming that deal mainly with water. Hence, it is crucial to examine and develop a sharia-compliant framework for water usage, specifically Halalan Toyyiba, to cater to the needs of the Malaysian community, particularly the majority Muslim population here. This framework aligns neatly with Malaysia’s imminent National Halal Policy 2025-2035. This study aims to introduce and finally integrate the concepts of al-Jallalah, Istihalah, and Istibrak towards the implementation of the Halalan Toyyiba principle in water usage in Malaysia. This paper utilises qualitative approaches. The paper's aims will be addressed by analysing and summarising fatwa-based resources, scholarly papers, and journals in a descriptive manner, all based on current issues and problems related to water. The findings indicate that without a solid framework incorporating the concepts of al-Jallalah, Istihalah, and Istibrak and all aspects of water-based application, the implementation of Halalan Toyyiba in domestic and industrial water-related usage in Malaysia is far from complete. Hence, it is imperative that this policy framework be implemented urgently in Malaysia
PEMBANGUNAN MODAL INSAN DARI PERSPEKTIF KEROHANIAN AGAMA: ISLAM SEBAGAI FOKUS (HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT BASED ON THE ASPECT OF RELIGIOUS SPIRITUALITY: THE ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE)
Kata Kunci: pembangunan, modal insan, kerohanian agama, Islam ABSTRACT Human capital is an aspect that cannot be ignored at all in the context of development which begins with the development of self, family, community and nation. This article will discuss aspects of human capital development from the perspective of spiritual Islam. The conceptual discussion which is derived from literature, focuses on Islam as the religion of the federation of Malaysia. This study emphasized the importance of recognizing that human capital is human resource which leads to sustainability of a community. The initial focus on Islam is to be a model to other religions. This paper is hoped to give insights into spiritual religiosity as a push factor towards the development of human capital in the Malaysian society. Keywords: development, human capital, spirituality, religion, Isla
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
