    Scherer Multidemand Multidimensional KP Instances

    No full text
Test instance data for the 0-1 multidemand multidimensional knapsack problem (MDMKP) from the Primal Problem Instance Generator (PPIG) from Scherer et al. 2023. The instances allow for a greater range of correlation values between the profit coefficients and the coefficients for the knapsack and demand constraints. The test instances also flex the constraint tightness across each dimension. Providing a different structure than existing instances. The first 45 instances do not obey a predetermined correlation structure, while the remaining 135 instances are defined through an explicit predetermined correlation structure (Uniform(-1,1)) for each dimension of each coefficient used in the MDMKP. The .txt file attached obeys the following structure, by line.Problem number and best found objective valuenumber of variables, number of knapsack constraints, number of covering constraintsobjective function coefficientsright hand side values knapsack constraintsright hand side values covering constraintsm rows of left hand side knapsack coefficientsn rows of left hand side covering coefficientsFor any inquires contact the author at [email protected] DATASET IS ARCHIVED AT DANS/EASY, BUT NOT ACCESSIBLE HERE. Information Retrieval for Multivariate Research Data Repositories

    No full text
In this dissertation, I tackle the challenge of information retrieval for multivariate research data by providing novel means of content-based access.Large amounts of multivariate data are produced and collected in different areas of scientific research and industrial applications, including the human or natural sciences, the social or economical sciences and applications like quality control, security and machine monitoring. Archival and re-use of this kind of data has been identified as an important factor in the supply of information to support research and industrial production. Due to increasing efforts in the digital library community, such multivariate data are collected, archived and often made publicly available by specialized research data repositories. A multivariate research data document consists of tabular data with mm columns (measurement parameters, e.g., temperature, pressure, humidity, etc.) and nn rows (observations). To render such data-sets accessible, they are annotated with meta-data according to well-defined meta-data standard when being archived. These annotations include time, location, parameters, title, author (and potentially many more) of the document under concern. In particular for multivariate data, each column is annotated with the parameter name and unit of its data (e.g., water depth [m]).The task of retrieving and ranking the documents an information seeker is looking for is an important and difficult challenge. To date, access to this data is primarily provided by means of annotated, textual meta-data as described above. An information seeker can search for documents of interest, by querying for the annotated meta-data. For example, an information seeker can retrieve all documents that were obtained in a specific region or within a certain period of time. Similarly, she can search for data-sets that contain a particular measurement via its parameter name or search for data-sets that were produced by a specific scientist. However, retrieval via textual annotations is limited and does not allow for content-based search, e.g., retrieving data which contains a particular measurement pattern like a linear relationship between water depth and water pressure, or which is similar to example data the information seeker provides. In this thesis, I deal with this challenge and develop novel indexing and retrieval schemes, to extend the established, meta-data based access to multivariate research data. By analyzing and indexing the data patterns occurring in multivariate data, one can support new techniques for content-based retrieval and exploration, well beyond meta-data based query methods. This allows information seekers to query for multivariate data-sets that exhibit patterns similar to an example data-set they provide. Furthermore, information seekers can specify one or more particular patterns they are looking for, to retrieve multivariate data-sets that contain similar patterns. To this end, I also develop visual-interactive techniques to support information seekers in formulating such queries, which inherently are more complex than textual search strings. These techniques include providing an over-view of potentially interesting patterns to search for, that interactively adapt to the user's query as it is being entered. Furthermore, based on the pattern description of each multivariate data document, I introduce a similarity measure for multivariate data. This allows scientists to quickly discover similar (or contradictory) data to their own measurements.EG Graphics Dissertation Onlin

Niemcza diorites and moznodiorites (Sudetes, SW Poland): a record of changing geotectonic setting at ca. 340 Ma

    No full text
Granites sensu lato in the Sudetes intruded in several episodes during the Variscan orogeny recording different stages of crust and mantle evolution. Correlating precise ages with geochemistry of the Variscan granites provides information on the evolution of these sources within the Variscan orogen. The Variscan intrusive rocks from the Niemcza Zone (Bohemian Massif, Sudetes, SW Poland) include undeformed dioritic to syenitic rocks and magmatically foliated granodiorites. In this study we analysed low SiO2 (48–53 wt.%) monzodioritic rocks from Przedborowa and Koźmice. The monzodiorites contain late-magmatic zircons with ages of 341.8 ± 1.9 Ma for Przedborowa and 335.6 ± 2.3 Ma for Koźmice, interpreted as emplacement ages of the dioritic magmas. Older Przedborowa rocks are lower in K, Mg, Rb and Ni than the Koźmice rocks and similar compositional trend is also observed in the Central Bohemian Plutonic Complex. The implication is that the mantle underlying the Niemcza Zone became more enriched from ca. 342 to ca. 336 Ma, probably following the collision of the Saxothuringian and Moldanubian/Lugian domains. The magmatism related to the collision occurred ca. 12 Ma later than that in the Central Bohemian Plutonic Complex, but was accompanied by a similar change in magma chemistry from high-K (Przedborowa) to shoshonitic (Koźmice, Kośmin enclaves) and probably to ultrapotassic (Wilków Wielki)

The Internationalists Masters of the Global Game

    No full text
In this groundbreaking book, author Catherine Scherer focuses on the critical characteristics of successful global-facing professionals. She identi? es the ? ve key practices of successful “internationalists” and posits that acknowledging their unique capabilities and valuing those characteristics will have a profound effect on corporate mind-set and how global companies plan and execute the human element of their cross-border strategies. Using ? rst-person interviews and case studies, she illustrates the role of the internationalist and the results for global companies that recognize the importance of internationalists in leadership roles. Based on academic research and extensive interviews with international executives on four continents, The Internationalists identi? es the human problems common to international business ventures and analyzes them for lessons learned. From there, Scherer outlines human resources strategies for creating thoughtful and sensible international projects using the talents of those most capable of successfully carrying out cross-border ventures. A “must read” for executives, global leadership teams, senior human resources professionals, international project managers, and anyone contemplating an international career. A comparative case study of coordination mechanisms in Design and Build BIM-based projects in the Netherlands

    No full text
BIM implementation can affect the project coordination mechanisms in unexpected ways, even in widely-applied project procurement structures. Apart from the chosen procurement approach, the BIM technology and the distribution of roles in the project team influence and shape the project coordination. This paper aims to explore the emerging coordination structures and processes from BIM implementation in design-build procurement. An exploratory comparative case study has been undertaken. The findings included two main coordination mechanisms: a centralized and decentralized structure and a hierarchical ver-sus participative decision-making processes. These two patterns subsequently open a debate about the rela-tions between BIM implementation and business models in AEC and particularly the emergence of specialized all-around BIM firms versus BIM-knowledgeable engineering firms.Accepted Author ManuscriptDesign & Construction Managemen

THROOP INSTITUTEPASADENA, CALIFORNIAPRESIDENT\u27S ROOMJune 23, 1909.John Muir, Esq., LL.D.,Martinez, California. My dear Dr. Muir:—On returning from Europe the other day I found an autograph copy of your book Stikeen . I had already read the volume, and prize the oppertunity of having as mine a copy from the author\u27s kind hands. As I wrote to our mutual friend, Mr. Vroman, I look upon Stikeen as the finest dog story that has ever come my way; and I think I have read the most of them, from John Brown to Mark Twain. I find that Mr. Vroman has also put a portrait of you in my office. I appreciate its presence here, but would prefer the original. I shall look forward with keen pleasure to an early meeting.Yours most sincerely,[illegible]04532https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmcl/31456/thumbnail.jp
