Islamist movements at crossroads: the choice between ideology and context-driven approach to politics. Case study on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

    No full text
The aim of the paper is to analyse the ongoing transformation process within the Islamist movements using the example of the moderate Islamic Action Front party in Jordan. The dilemma of participation in the 2010 general elections raised tensions between the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan and its political wing, the Islamic Action Front, and between doves and hawks of the same organizations. Internal debate on the future has started recently among different groups within the Islamist movement in Jordan. The research is based on the author‘s recent field experience in Jordan (April–July 2010, Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship at the American Centre of Oriental Research, Amman, Jordan). The author also conducted research in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Egypt, where several interviews were carried out with leading and lower level Islamist politicians. The dynamic changes within Islamic Action Front Party in Jordan and its relation with the regime has been used as reference point. The main question of the research was aa how the changing political and regional context shapes decisions of the Islamist with special attention to the acceptance of democratic values and human rights, political participation, and the meanings of Islamic values in the 21st century, possible cooperation with secular parties/movements/the regime

Teil III umfasst einige wichtige Nachrufe. This article offers in part I an overview over developments in Integrative Therapy, core positions of its metatheory and theory e.g. metahermeneutics, polylogue, transversality, moreover of sources and reference thinkers with their diciplines that became important to the author as originator of „Integrative Therapy“ and that might be also important to the „Integrative Approach“ as such. Therefore these influences are put into the open sphere. The importance of the concept of the “intellectual biography” for therapy and work with oneself is emphasized, to encourage the reader and the practitioners of the Integrative Approach to become engaged in processes of transversal hermeneutics in order to explore self confident one’s own style of thinking and personal “Welt-Anschauungen” and their background. In Part II concise biographical portraits of important authors of reference and their ideas as well as their influences on Integrative Therapy are presented. Part III contains some important orbituaries.https://www.fpi-publikation.de/textarchiv-petzold/petzold-h-g-et-al-2002p-updating-2006-2011j-lust-auf-erkenntnis-polyloge-und/peerReviewedpublishedVersio

This paper aims to explore the experiences of five singers on stage and by seeing how they describe passionate experiences, creating an understanding of the circumstances that may affect the experience, and how practice and preparation affects the experience. In the theoretical background the concepts of feeling, passion, aversion, enjoyment, flow and experience are presented. The method chapter explains the choice of methodology and the working progress. The result shows what elements are needed according to the informants to achieve a state of passion and flow as well as what it feels like to experience these concepts. The study shows that the crucial element is that they are professional and have a lot of focus on preparation and how they tackle audience reactions

Lebenslanges Lernen, Lern-Lust lebenslang.

(DIPF/Orig.)abz*austria dedicated two courses to the topic “lifelong learning, lifelong lust for learning” for unemployed women over the age of 45. The goal was to kindle an interest in lifelong learning and to provide computer skills and key competences that could be directly applied to a product-oriented project. What moved the women to decide to participate? How did they learn and what did they learn? In this article, the author describes the important building blocks of the course and reports on the experience that “older people” don‘t learn in just one way but rather in a great variety of ways. She also asserts that the ability to learn is not tied to a certain age and that learning is concerned with more than methods, discipline and endurance. Instead, it has much to do with curiosity, playfulness and creativity. (DIPF/Orig.

Characterization of the unfolded protein response by pharmacological agents in lymphoid malignancies

Normal B cell development is tightly regulated by transcription factors and is characterized by the formation of the B-cell receptor. When the regulation and activation of B cell differentiation is disrupted, lymphomas and leukemias can occur. These lymphoid malignancies often resemble normal stages of the B cell differentiation. During normal B cell development a precursor B cell will ultimately form a terminal differentiated lymphocyte or plasma cell. These terminal differentiated B cells require massive increase in their biosynthetic capacity to synthesize thousands of antibodies per second for secretion. For this purpose, these cells rely on a highly developed endoplasmic reticulum (ER), the compartment where proteins are assembled and modified into functional antibodies. However, upon perturbations in ER function a stress response pathway can be activated, named the "unfolded protein response" (UPR). In the first place, the UPR is a cytoprotective signaling response and several studies have demonstrated already that activation of the UPR might have a crucial role in cancer. Until now, little is known about the role of the UPR in the germinal center (GC)-derived lymphomas since most investigations were performed on healthy B cells and multiple myeloma. Therefore, the initial aim of this doctoral work was to evaluate the expression levels of baseline and inducible UPR-related markers in DLBCL cell lines and in a plasma cell line. Besides its protective role, the UPR may balance in the direction of cell death upon severe and prolonged stress. Manipulation of the UPR may be used as an alternative cell death mechanism since conventional treatments frequently activate the classical cell death pathways, like the intrinsic and extrinsic cell death program. Therefore, this cell death strategy is used on CLL patient samples. To accomplish this goal, the anticancer activities of two plant-derived compounds, xanthohumol (isolated from hop, Humulus lupulus L.) and withaferin A (isolated from Withania somnifera), were investigated. In conclusion, our results provide a scientific basis for further investigations of the involvement of the UPR in DLBCL. Moreover, targeting the ER may be an interesting therapeutic strategy for CLL and other lymphoid malignancies, and for further development of new therapeutic agents

Gluttony and lust: monophonic intertextuality of sinful\ud inclinations

    No full text
This paper addresses the question of the relationship between the purgatorial categories of sin linked to the sensitivity of the body, especially gluttony and lust, and the musical treatment they receive in Dantes text. It is a sensory sphere, an inferior type according to Aquinas, that in the poem receives a melodic characterization focused on a network of internal refe- rences. The sins of gluttony and lust, at the top of the purgatorial mountain, are represented not only through dialogue between characters and environmental descriptions but also thanks to the arrangement, by the author, of a monophonic frame structured around registers and musical tones closely intertwined in a way that contribute to unify the last stage of the purgatorial journey before the concluding Edenic chants
