    Portraits of Leonardo da Vinci

    No full text
Using an iterative method, applied to image processing, a portrait of a young man, probably a self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci, is restored. Merging this portrait with the self-portrait in red chalk, we can have the features of a middle-aged Leonardo. This digital portrait can be compared with the image of Plato, depicted by Raphael in the Scuola di Atene, generally considered as a portrait of Leonardo. The iterative method used for the image processing had been developed by the author on previous iterative calculations used to solve the Boltzmann equatio

Why (and how) to regulate Power Exchanges in the EU market integration context?

    No full text
Power Exchanges (PXs) are key market institutions in open and market-based electricity industries. This paper aims at contributing to the ongoing debate on why and how to regulate Power Exchanges in the EU market integration context. . The paper starts by stating that two different types of PXs have to be distinguished, i.e. "Merchant" PXs and the "Cost of Service Regulated" PXs. The paper continues by comparing the typical incentives of these two types of PXs to perform the basic PX tasks in an isolated national market and in a market integration context. The paper concludes by deriving from this analytical frame the most relevant regulatory actions..Regulation, Exchanges, Grid access, Power Markets.

The paper offer to the readers the treatment and the text the author prepared to realize the documentary film, La Roma di Mussolini, produced in 2003 by the Istituto Luce. It opens with a discussion of fascist newsreels and their relationship with the public. Then in an examination of the entire production of the period, the author propose the thesis that fascist newsreels on the items of modernization of city have had in Italy a similar rule than in the rest of Europe: the building of a new social and urban culture. (v. anche La Roma di Mussolini, soggetto e testi di Leonardo Ciacci, a cura di Leonardo Tiberi, DVD durata 76 minuti con sottotitoli in italiano e inglese, produzione Istituto Luce, Roma, 2003

Recensione dell'articolo: (Miyazawa, Masakiyo - " Light tail asymptotics in multidimensional reflecting processes for queueing network " - TOP 19 (2011), no.2, 233–299.)

    No full text
In this paper the author studies the stationary distribution of a class of discrete time reflecting processes which are defined on a multidimensional nonnegative space. The focus is on studying performance evaluation of queuing network models subject to specific conditions such as the so-called heavy traffic condition. In this context the author also offers a wide overview that describes the current approaches. Leonardo Pasin

Investigation of Seasonal Variation in Fatty Acid and Mineral Concentrations of Pecorino Romano PDO Cheese: Imputation of Missing Values for Enhanced Classification and Metabolic Profile Reconstruction

    No full text
Seasonal variation in fatty acids and minerals concentrations was investigated through the analysis of Pecorino Romano cheese samples collected in January, April, and June. A fraction of samples contained missing values in their fatty acid profiles. Probabilistic principal component analysis, coupled with Linear Discriminant Analysis, was employed to classify cheese samples on a production season basis while accounting for missing data and quantifying the missing fatty acid concentrations for the samples in which they were absent. The levels of rumenic acid, vaccenic acid, and omega-3 compounds were positively correlated with the spring season, while the length of the saturated fatty acids increased throughout the production seasons. Concerning the classification performances, the optimal number of principal components (i.e., 5) achieved an accuracy in cross-validation equal to 98%. Then, when the model was tasked with imputing the lacking fatty acid concentration values, the optimal number of principal components resulted in an R2 value in cross-validation of 99.53%
