Intermediate inequality and welfare.
No full textWe introduce a new centrist or intermediate inequality concept, between the usual relative and absolute notions, which is shown to be a variant of the α-ray invariant inequality measures in Pfingsten and Seidl (1997). We say that distributions x and y have the same (x, π)-inequality if the total income difference between them is allocated among the individuals as follows: 100π% preserving income shares in x, and 100(1−π)% in equal absolute amounts. This notion can be made as operational as current standard methods in Shorrocks (1983).

No full textAnna Seidl analyseerde het oeuvre van de auteur W.G. Sebald (1944-2001) op basis van het concept ‘ruimte’. Dit concept maakt een overkoepelende samenhang zichtbaar in het werk van de Duitse schrijver. Het bepaalt vorm en inhoud, en komt tot uitdrukking in de wandelingen of ontmoetingen van het ik met bepaalde plaatsen en personen. Daarbij is steeds een spanningsveld aanwezig door de onafgebroken afwisseling tussen schepping en vernietiging, en tussen hoop en wanhoop. Door de manier waarop deze elementen zijn weergegeven ontstaat vervolgens een poëzie van de ruimte. Seidls onderzoek is het eerste complete overzicht van literaire bewegingsvormen bij W.G. Sebald
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
