An approach based on the total-species accumulation curve and higher taxon richness to estimate realistic upper limits in regional species richness
Most of accumulation curves tend to underestimate species richness, as they do not consider spatial heterogeneity in species distribution, or are structured to provide lower bound estimates and limited extrapolations. The total-species (T-S) curve allows extrapolations over large areas while taking into account spatial heterogeneity, making this estimator more prone to attempt upper bound estimates of regional species richness. However, the T-S curve may overestimate species richness due to (1) the mismatch among the spatial units used in the accumulation model and the actual units of variation in beta-diversity across the region, (2) small-scale patchiness, and/or (3) patterns of rarity of species. We propose a new framework allowing the T-S curve to limit overestimation and give an application to a large dataset of marine mollusks spanning over 11 km(2) of subtidal bottom (W Mediterranean). As accumulation patterns are closely related across the taxonomic hierarchy up to family level, improvements of the T-S curve leading to more realistic estimates of family richness, that is, not exceeding the maximum number of known families potentially present in the area, can be considered as conducive to more realistic estimates of species richness. Results on real data showed that improvements of the T-S curve to accounts for true variations in beta-diversity within the sampled areas, small-scale patchiness, and rarity of families led to the most plausible richness when all aspects were considered in the model. Data on simulated communities indicated that in the presence of high heterogeneity, and when the proportion of rare species was not excessive (>2/3), the procedure led to almost unbiased estimates. Our findings highlighted the central role of variations in beta-diversity within the region when attempting to estimate species richness, providing a general framework exploiting the properties of the T-S curve and known family richness to estimate plausible upper bounds in gamma-diversity

Revision of the Recent Alvania scabra (Philippi, 1844) complex (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Rissoidae) from the Mediterranean Sea with the description of a new species
Herein we revise several Recent Mediterranean species of the rissoid genus Alvania Risso, 1826: Alvania scabra (Philippi,
1844), Alvania sculptilis (Monterosato, 1877), Alvania sororcula Granata-Grillo, 1877, Alvania lucinae Oberling, 1970,
Alvania josefoi Oliver & Templado, 2009 and Alvania scuderii Villari, 2017. They represent a rather homogeneous group
of morphologically similar species, referred to as the Alvania scabra complex, which includes also some other species
from the northeastern Atlantic. We designate a neotype for Rissoa scabra Philippi, 1844 and a lectotype for Rissoa
oranica Pallary, 1900 to stabilize the use of the names. Alvania oranica (Pallary, 1900) is confirmed as a synonym of
Alvania scabra (Philippi, 1844), and Alvania asperella (Granata-Grillo, 1877) is proposed as a synonym of Alvania
sororcula (Granata-Grillo, 1877) [new synonymy]. Finally, we describe one new Mediterranean species: Alvania pizzinii

O realismo de Danilo Zolo
The article aims to make an analysis of the main aspects of the thought of Danilo Zolo, who turned 80 in January 2016. Initially, we examine the epistemological foundations of the legal realism proposed by Zolo. Then we deal with the significance of this realism for a possible theory of democracy. Finally, we analyze the contributions of that author to the philosophy of international law, which made him one of the leading thinkers in this area in recent decades. Palavras-chave: filosofia do direito, filosofia política, realismo jurídico
La prospettiva pluralistica e multiculturale in Danilo Zolo
This essay takes into consideration the pluralistic perspective in Danilo
Zolo’s thought, dealing with the way in which the multiculturalist theme is situated
in the legal-philosophical reflection of the author. In this regard, the article underlines
a pioneering attention to multiculturalism as a theoretical approach inextricably
linked to the political and legal dimension. The analysis will focus on the connection
between the multiculturalist instance and Zolo’s substantive approach on citizenship,
in the context of a discourse on the concept of national belonging. Finally, within a
brief dialogue with Danilo Zolo starting from the Canadian experience, the paper aims
to highlight the difference between an analytical and interpretative horizon focused
on the crisis of the monistic Nation-State and a radical disarticulation of national
citizenship
Pisanie Ojca. „Gen schulzowski” w prozie Danilo Kiša
Danilo Kiš claimed that his favorite works of other writers not only contributed to his own books as their “ancestors,” but also became parts of his spiritual DNA. The author makes an attempt at finding the “Schulzean gene” in The Family Circus and reveal the invisible presence of Schulz in other works by Kiš. Schulz has not been mentioned there, but he remains “present through his absence,” just like Kiš’s father, the protagonist of Hourglass, called “a novel about absence.
Early Christian Bird-shaped Fibulae in the Light of Unpublished Finds from Danilo and Podumci
S obzirom na činjenicu da su analizirane fibule pronađene zajedno s germanskim nalazima, te na temelju usporednih primjeraka sa šireg prostora Europe, autor fibule iz Podumaca i Danila datira u razdoblje 5. ili 6. st.The author analyzes two unpublished bird-shaped fibulae found by Dane Maretić in the wider area of the Šibenik hinterland, more precisely on the sites of Danilo – Gradina (Hillfort) and Podumci – Maretića umac. The fibula from Danilo is kept in the Museum Collection of the Monastery on Visovac, while the one from Podumci is in the possession of the finder. The fibulae are made of bronze in full sculpture and they depict birds with folded wings. The plate fibulae are also briefly described in the work as the author believes that they belong to the same cultural and chronological horizon. The opinion is put forward that the plastically rendered fibulae depict a pigeon or a turtle-dove, which is connected with Christian symbolism. Considering the fact that the analyzed fibulae were found together with Germanic finds, and based on comparative pieces from the wider territory of Europe, the author dates the fibulae from Podumci and Danilo to the period of the 5th or 6th cent.
