    Study on the Effect of Timing of Irrigation on Yield and Quality of Spring-maturing Pineapple During the Fruiting Period

    (一)本試驗為研究臺灣鳳梨春果低產現象,與春果結實期間之灌水效果,期獲知最適宜之灌水時期,以達成經濟有效之目標 (二)試驗於52年9月至53年5月在鳳山熱帶圜藝試驗分所舉辦。 (三)早春果(9月間處埋電石,翌年4月成熟)於謝花後果實生長至成熟期間(1~4月〕行灌水最有效果,約可增加果重11~12%,花芽分化前後(9~10月)之灌水效果不著。 (四)中期春果(10月處理電石,翌年5月成熟)在花芽分化前後10~11月)行灌水,可加小果數7~8%,因而亦增加果重。結實期之灌水,亦使果重增加,依灌水期間之長短增加之程程不一,且有顯著之累積效果,全期灌水產率達22~23%,後半期之灌水效果較前半期灌水者為佳。 (五)春果在花芽分化前後及謝花後至成熟期問行灆水者,效果最大,產量增高,品質亦好。 誌謝:本研究之完成得國家長期發展科學委員會之補助,謹此誌謝。 1. This experiment investigates the cause for the lower productivity of the spring maturing fruits the pineapples of Taiwan, and the effects of irrigation during the stage of the fruiting. Expecting to find out a suitable period of irrigation attains the economical objects. 2. Th experimentation had been administrated by Feng-shan Tropical Horticulture Experimental Station from September, 1963. to May, 1964. 3. Irrigation after the fading of the flowers that are during the stages of the developing of the fruits and the fruiting (Jan. to April) have the most significant effect, It can be increased the weight of fruits 11-12%on the early spring-maturing fruits (treated by Calcium Carbide in September, maturing in April, next year). Irrigation during the stage of floral initiation (September to Oct.) have the insignificant effect. 4. Irrigation around the stages of floral initiation (October to November) can be increased the number of fruitlets 7-8% on the mid Spring-maturing fruits (treated by Calcium Carbide in October, maturing in May, next year). Irrigation during the stage of the fruiting can be increased the weight of fruits and have an effective accumulation on the time of irrigation. The whole stage of the maturing-fruits to irrigate may be increased 22-23% and the later half of the stage IS more effective than the former half of the stage. 5. Irrigation around the stages of floral Initiation and after the fading of the flowers till the stage of maturing-fruits have the most effective, higher yields, and the best quality on the spring-maturing fruits

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    (1) 臺灣開英種鳳梨自1922年大量引入後,即極力繁殖推廣,迄今已佔全島鳳梨栽培面積七千餘公頃之88%,成為製罐之主要品種。 (2) 由於大量繁殖推廣結果,只注意苗量的增殖,而忽略苗質的選擇,以致品系混雜,良莠不齊,光復後農林廳,農復會,鳳梨公司及鳳山熱帶園藝試驗分所等機構為增加鳳梨生產,提高鳳梨品質,遂著手鳳梨選苗工作,在選苗工作當中始發現開英種鳳梨有四個主要系羣。 (3) 據42年調查四系羣中三菱系在臺灣分佈最廣佔開英種之95.15%,正常開英估4.51%,突目0.3%,砂窪最少,佔0.04%。 (4) 據43~45年調查,三菱系之特性為裔芽多,吸芽發生遲而少,影響第二年產量,同時果實基部多瘤目,為一不良系羣,正常開英之特性適與三菱系相反,裔芽少,吸芽發生早,第一二年之產量均高,同時果實無瘤目,果大形整,製罐率高,品質佳,為一優良系羣,突目之特性為侏矮小,果目顯著突出,果柄短惟多冠芽之百分率較高,砂窪之特性為開花時花瓣不能張開,果實成熟時鼓聲,比重低於一,果粉較多,後二系羣之特性各有優劣,尚難評定好壞。 (5)依據各系羣之特徵擬訂系羣檢索表一種,使用此表甚易將各系羣加以分辨。 (1) Since the introduction of Smooth Cayenne pineapples to Taiwan in 1922, great quantity of propagation and extension have been carried on among growers. Now, 88% of the present 7,000 hectares of pineapples are Smooth Cayenne variety which is the leading canned pineapple in Taiwan. (2) As a result of large-scale propagation and extension, attention was concentrated on the quantative increasement of planting materials while selection of better seedling was neglected. Strains were mixed and inferior mutation have been prevailed. After the restoration of Taiwan, in order to increase production of pineapple industry and improve the quality of pineapple fruits, the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, JCRR, Taiwan Pineapple Corporation and Fengshan Tropical Horticultural Experiment Station began to select pineapple seedlings in Taiwan. Four pineapple types of Smooth Cayenne variety were discovered in the course of this selection. (3) According to a survey made in 1953, the most wide distributed type is Collar of slips, Occupying 95.15 %. Normal Smooth Cayenne, 4.51 %, Elevated eyes 0.3 %, Sarawak 0.04 %. (4) According to the investigations made in 1954-4956, the features of Collar of slips are: multiple slips, late and less suckers which influence the yield of ratoon crops, many tumors under the base of fruit. It is recognized as a bad type. The features of Normal Smooth Cayenne are the reverse of the Collar of slips: less slips, earlier suckers and high yield both in first and second crops, no tumors on the fruit, fruit size big and shape excellent, percentage of canning is high and quality is good. It is a good type. The features of Elevated eyes are: plant comparably drawf, fruit eye elevated, fruit stalk short, percentage of multiple crown high. The features of Sarewak are: petals do not open during blossom, fruit give drum-like voice when knocked during mature, specific gravity lower than one, more powder on the fruit. The last two types have their perfections and defects, has not bcen determined, so far which is better. (5) Based on the characteristics of each type, a type key has been made in order to distinguish, one from another
