Interaction-induced connectivity of disordered two-particle states
We study the interaction-induced connectivity in the Fock space of two particles in a disordered onedimensional potential. Recent computational studies showed that the largest localization length xi(2) of two interacting particles in a weakly random tight-binding chain is increasing unexpectedly slow relative to the single-particle localization length xi(1), questioning previous scaling estimates. We show this to be a consequence of the approximate restoring of momentum conservation of weakly localized single-particle eigenstates, and disorder-induced phase shifts for partially overlapping states. The leading resonant links appear among states which share the same energy and momentum. We substantiate our analytical approach by computational studies for up to xi(1) = 1000. A potential nontrivial scaling regime sets in for xi(1) approximate to 4001461sciescopu
Critical state generators from perturbed flatbands
One-dimensional all-bands-flat lattices are networks with all bands being flat and highly degenerate. They can always be diagonalized by a finite sequence of local unitary transformations parameterized by a set of angles θi. In a previous work, we demonstrated that quasiperiodic perturbations of a specific one-dimensional all-bands-flat lattice give rise to a critical-to-insulator transition and fractality edges separating critical from localized states. In this study, we generalize these studies and results to the entire manifold of all-bands-flat models and study the effect of the quasiperiodic perturbation on the entire manifold. For weak perturbation, we derive an effective Hamiltonian and we identify the sets of manifold parameters for which the effective model maps to extended or off diagonal Harper models and hosts critical states. For all the other parameter values, the spectrum is localized. Upon increasing the perturbation strength, the extended Harper model evolves into a system with energy dependent critical-to-insulator transitions, which we dub fractality edges. Additionally, the fractality edges are perturbation-independent, i.e., remain constant as the perturbation strength varies. The case where the effective model maps onto the off diagonal Harper model features a tunable critical-to-insulator transition at a finite disorder strength. © 2023 Author(s). Almost compact moving breathers with fine-Tuned discrete time quantum walks
Discrete time quantum walks are unitary maps defined on the Hilbert space of coupled two-level systems. We study the dynamics of excitations in a nonlinear discrete time quantum walk, whose fine-Tuned linear counterpart has a flat band structure. The linear counterpart is, therefore, lacking transport, with exact solutions being compactly localized. A solitary entity of the nonlinear walk moving at velocity v would, therefore, not suffer from resonances with small amplitude plane waves with identical phase velocity, due to the absence of the latter. That solitary excitation would also have to be localized stronger than exponential, due to the absence of a linear dispersion. We report on the existence of a set of stationary and moving breathers with almost compact superexponential spatial tails. At the limit of the largest velocity v = 1, the moving breather turns into a completely compact bullet. c. 2018 Author(s
Signatures of many-body localization in steady states of open quantum systems
Many-body localization (MBL) is a result of the balance between interference-based Anderson localization and many-body interactions in a high-dimensional Fock space. It is expected that dissipation is blurring interference and destroying that balance so that the asymptotic state of a system with an MBL Hamiltonian does not bear localization signatures. This is evidently true in the case of local dephasing which drives any system into an infinite-temperature state. We demonstrate, by using a set of dissipative operators, where each one is acting nontrivially on a pair of neighboring sites (or spins), that an MBL system can be brought into a Hamiltonian-specific steady state. The difference between ergodic and MBL Hamiltonians can be seen in statistics of imbalance, entanglement entropy, and level spacing of the steady-state density operator. By introducing pairwise dissipative operators into an MBL system already exposed to dephasing, these localization signatures can be restored. ©2018 American Physical Societ
Anderson localization in generalized discrete-time quantum walks
We study Anderson localization in a generalized discrete-time quantum walk—a unitary map related to a Floquet driven quantum lattice. It is controlled by a quantum coin matrix which depends on four angles with the meaning of potential and kinetic energy, and external and internal synthetic flux. Such quantum coins can be engineered with microwave pulses in qubit chains. The ordered case yields a two-band eigenvalue structure on the unit circle, which becomes completely flat in the limit of vanishing kinetic energy. Disorder in the external magnetic field does not impact localization. Disorder in all the remaining angles yields Anderson localization. In particular, kinetic-energy disorder leads to logarithmic divergence of the localization length at spectral symmetry points. Strong disorder in potential and internal magnetic field energies allows one to obtain analytical expressions for spectrally independent localization length, which is highly useful for various applications. © 2017 American Physical Society1111sciescopu
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Conductance transition with interacting bosons in an Aharonov-Bohm cage
We study transport of interacting bosons through an Aharonov-Bohm cage - a
building block of flat band networks - with coherent pump and sink leads. In
the absence of interactions the cage is insulating due to destructive
interference. We find that the cage stays insulating up to a critical value of
the pump strength in the presence of mean field interactions, while the quantum
regime induces particle pair transport and weak conductance below the critical
pump strength. A swift crossover from quantum into the classical regime upon
further pump strength increase is observed. We solve the time dependent master
equations for the density matrix of the many body problem both in the
classical, pure quantum, and pseudoclassical regimes. We start with an empty
cage and switch on driving. We characterize the transient dynamics, and the
complexity of the resulting steady states and attractors. Our results can be
readily realized using experimental platforms involving interacting ultracold
atoms and photons on finetuned optical lattices.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
