No full textDer Artikel gedenkt Włodzimierz Rydzewski, einer Person, die eine enorme Rolle in der Gestaltung und Entwicklung der polnischen Forschung über den russischen Gedanken, sowie des polnischen Marxismus und der Philosophie an sich (mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der Jagiellonen-Universität). Seine Überzeugungen und Handlungen wurden in einem breiteren Kontext der Situation in Polen in den letzten Jahrzehnten des 20. Jahrhunderts verortet und mit den Arbeiten von Andrzej Walicki und Marek Siemek zusammengeführt, die auf ähnlichen Gebieten forschten. Es wurde die Thematik und die Methodologie der wissenschaftlichen und publizistischen Tätigkeit von Rydzewski dargestellt. Hervorgehoben wurden dabei auch große und zahlreiche Vorteile seines Charakters und seiner Person.The article is devoted to the memory of Włodzimierz Rydzewski, a person who has played a huge role in the shaping and development of Polish research into the Russian mind, the Polish Marxism, and philosophy in general (with particular regard to the Jagie-llonian University). His views and actions have been placed in the broader context of the situation in Poland in the last decades of the twentieth century, together with the works by Andrzej Walicki and Marek Siemek, operating in similar fields. The article outlines the topics and the methodology of scientific and journalistic activities of Rydzewski; it highlights the manifold merits of Rydzewski as a person.Artykuł poświęcony jest pamięci Włodzimierza Rydzewskiego, osoby, która odegrała ogromną rolę w kształtowaniu i w rozwoju polskich badań nad myślą rosyjską, także polskiego marksizmu i filozofii w ogóle (ze szczególnym tu uwzględnieniem Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego). No full textPrzedkładana Czytelnikom książka został pomyślana jako dzieło, którego nie udało się autorowi doprowadzić do końca, niemniej jednak zebrane w niej teksty składają się na dość spójną wizję niezrealizowanej całości. Autorem książki jest Włodzimierz Rydzewski (1946-2007) – polski uczony, filozof, historyk idei, profesor Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie. W swej działalności naukowej Rydzewski skupiał się przede wszystkim na badaniach rosyjskiej filozofii i myśli społecznej. I takiej też tematyce są w swej większości poświęcone teksty zebrane w niniejszej książce. Zostały one pogrupowane w zwarte tematycznie rozdziały. Pierwszy poświęcony został anarchizmowi i narodnictwu, drugi – problemowi „rosyjskiej idei”, trzeci – myśli Stanisława Brzozowskiego, marksizmowi i filozofii społecznej. Rozdział czwarty – zachowuje charakter osobny, zawiera on bowiem reprezentatywny zbiór recenzji książek, poświęconych polskim badaniom nad filozofią rosyjską. Integralną częścią książki jest także „Bibliografia wybranych prac” autora, zbierająca i porządkująca spuściznę piśmienniczą Rydzewskiego pod względem jego wkładu w polskie badania nad myślą rosyjską.This book was conceived as a work that the author did not manage to bring to a successful conclusion. Still, the texts here contained make up a cohesive vision of a whole never fulfilled. The author of the book is Włodzimierz Rydzewski (1946-2007) – a Polish scholar, philosopher, historian of ideas and a professor of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. In his academic activity he chiefly focused on the research into the Russian philosophy and social thought. Therefore, the bulk of the texts constituting this book are dedicated to this subject matter. They have been grouped into thematically coherent chapters. The first one addresses anarchism and narodnichestvo; the second one – the problem of the “Russian idea”; the third one – the thought of Stanisław Brzozowski, Marxism and social philosophy. The fourth chapter is of a distinct character, as it features a representative collection of reviews of the books on the Polish research into Russian philosophy. An integral part of the book is the “Bibliography of Selected Works” by the author. It enumerates and organizes Rydzewski’s oeuvre, with special emphasis placed on his contribution to the Polish research on the Russian thought

No full textThe text The material legacy of Wincenty Lutosławski in Drozdowo – an inspiration for local research is an assessment of the achievements of the staff of the Natural History Museum – Lutosławski Manor in Drozdowo in the field of its main activity. Among the tasks carried out: the collection and development of collections, organisation of exhibitions, broadly understood education and journalism, and academic work is an equal element. It documents the history of the landed gentry of Łomża with particular emphasis on the Lutosławski family of Drozdowo. Taking into account the highlighted task, the paper is divided into three sections. The preceding introduction is devoted to the history of the Lutosławski family in Drozdowo. The first section describes Wincenty Lutosławski’s relationship with Drozdowo, where he spent his childhood and later came with his wife and daughters. The second section covers the history and assessment of the value of the Drozdowo mementos of Wincenty. It concerns his legacy in the form of buildings and park layouts as well as changes in the very infrastructure of the locality. With regard to the Museum, the exhibition and storage collections are discussed. Among them are Wincenty’s personal items related to his life and work, including a travel desk. The third section presents the state of research and studies on Lutosławski as seen from the perspective of the Museum’s programme specification. The development of an individual research programme drawing on the museum’s own resources and supplementing queries with materials on the basis of which his educational and popularising activities and, in the long-term perspective, research and study activities developed, is presented. As a result of creating exhibitions and journalism, materials from various sources are accumulated, on the basis of which analytical works and syntheses are prepared. The organisation of sessions and conferences is closely linked to this practice, and the rapprochement of the different types of activities is being fostered, for example by the creation in 2011 of a conference on the theme of “Meetings of Generations in the Landed Gentry Community” and anniversary celebrations. The programme of the Museum’s activities, created over the course of more than thirty years, would certainly not be as varied and extensive were it not for the “depth” of the material and ideological heritage of the most prominent representatives of the Lutosławski family, among whom Wincenty played a leading role. The man and his creation inspires not only the Drozdowo museum staff, but also the academics cooperating with them, who seek inspiration from sources preserved and developed also in the philosopher’s hometown.MARCIN RYDZEWSKI – mgr, absolwent Wydziału Nauk Historycznych Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu, studiów podyplomowych z historii na Uniwersytecie w Białymstoku oraz pedagogiki w Niepaństwowej Wyższej Szkole Pedagogicznej w Białymstoku. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. This study is an attempt at matematization of the concept of property.
Axiomatization was conducted so that this concept could be compatible, to a
maximum degree, with institutional understanding.
The main result is assertion 11 due to its methodological consequences. A
collection of all objects discernible with regard to the finite number of
independent properties was called "space of jumps" (formal definitions of
"independence" and "space of jumps" are given in the article). "Space of
jumps" may be treated as a certain model of "possible world". The assertions
contained in the article give its characterization. By way of simplifying,
the assertion 11 can be expressed as follows: accepting that a man s cognition
takes place through a finite number of senses, which recognize basic and
independent properties, it can be stated that a man cannot recognize objects

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
