Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

No full textTämän työn tavoitteena on vastata kysymykseen, miten maasto- ja metsäpalojen torjuntajärjestelmää tulisi kehittää Suomessa. Kyseessä on hermeneuttinen tutkimus ja vertaileva analyysi siitä, miten Suomen ja Ruotsin maasto- ja metsäpalojen torjuntajärjestelmä toimii sekä miten Suomen järjestelmää voitaisiin parantaa. Työn keskeisenä tavoitteena on kuvata ja auttaa ymmärtämään millaisista osakokokonaisuuksista Suomen maasto- ja metsäpalojen torjuntajärjestelmän kokonaisuus muodostuu, jotta järjestelmää voidaan kehittää.
Tutkimusaineisto on koottu pelastusalan avaininformanteilta. Teoreettinen viitekehys on koottu maasto- ja metsäpalojen torjunnan kokonaisjärjestelmää käsittelevästä tutkimuskirjallisuudesta, jota on kansainvälisestikin tarkastellen olemassa melko vähän. Tilastotilanteen kuvaus on tehty pelastustoimen resurssi- ja onnettomuustietojärjestelmä PRONTOn perusteella.
Työssä on kvalitatiivinen lähestymistapa eli työssä analysoidaan tietoja laadullisesti. Työhön pyrittiin tuomaan käytännönläheisyyttä toteuttamalla työ sisäministeriölle, ja käyttämällä todellisia käytössä olevia työkaluja sekä ajantasaisia tietoja pelastustoimen resurssi- ja onnettomuustietojärjestelmä PRONTO:sta.
Tutkimuksen tulosten perusteella voidaan todeta, että tutkimukseen haastatellut avaininformantit olivat pääosin tyytyväisiä Suomen maasto- ja metsäpalojen torjuntajärjestelmään. Työn keskeisimpänä tuloksena nousi esiin se, että nykyiselle varsin hyvälle tilanteelle on monia syitä, jotka tulee tiedostaa ja huomioida. Näitä hyviä käytäntöjä tulee ylläpitää tai jopa vahvistaa, ja jotta nykyisellä tasolla voidaan säilyä, tulisi myös tämän työn tuloksina syntyneet kehittämisehdotukset toteuttaa mahdollisimman pian.The goal of this work is to answer the question how the control system of wild fire should be developed in Finland. It is a hermeneutic study, and a comparative analysis of differences and similarities between Finland and Sweden concerning control system of wild fires and how the system in Finland could be improved. The main objective of this work is to help understand how the system works in order to improve it.
A triangulation was used as a source of information and materials of the work. A literature look as well as the content analysis of theme interviews and the information of information technology systems was widely used as material.
There is a qualitative approach in this work, and information is qualitatively analyzed. An attempt was made to bring the practice vicinity to the work by giving the work to the Ministry of The Interior and by using the actual tools and real-time information from resources and incident Information technology system of the Finnish rescue service.
The wholeness control system of wild fire in Finland can be mentioned to be in general outline in order and without casting defects. The fact is there are many different reasons why the situation in Finland is quite good. These things must take into consideration also in the future. Therefore, in order to maintain the present level, the development proposals of the study need to be carried out as soon as possible
Användning av luftfartyg i räddningsväsendets uppgifter : Anvisning
No full textDenna anvisning tillämpas i situationer där det finns behov att använda luftfartyg i räddningsväsendets uppgifter. Den är avsedd för räddningsväsendet och dess intressentgrupper. Syftet är att styra praxis som främjar och förenhetligar användningen av luftfartyg i räddningsväsendets uppgifter samt beredskapen för dessa. Målet är att den existerande luftfartygsutrustningen skulle användas ändamålsenligt i räddningsväsendets uppgifter.
I anvisningen definieras de tillgängliga luftfartygen och principerna för alarmering och användning av dem. Dessutom behandlas fördelningen av de kostnader som förorsakas av användningen av luftfartyg. Anvisningen stödjer även utbildningen inom räddningsväsendet samt planeringen av samarbetet inom räddningsverksamheten. Anvisningen innehåller även exempel på tillgängliga luftfartyg. Som bilaga finns diagram över SAR-verksamheten och alarmeringen av luftfartyg.
Anvisningen har utarbetats som tjänstearbete vid inrikesministeriets räddningsavdelning. Intressentgrupperna har ombetts om utlåtanden om utkastet till anvisningen. De framförda synpunkterna har beaktats i den slutliga anvisningen. Anvisningen har behandlats i ledningsgruppen för inrikesministeriets räddningsavdelning och den har godkänts slutgiltigt för ibruktagande med underskrifter
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Ilma-alusten käyttö pelastustoimen tehtävissä
No full textTätä ohjetta sovelletaan tilanteissa, joissa on tarpeen käyttää ilma-aluksia pelastustoimen tehtävissä. Se on tarkoitettu pelastustoimen ja sen sidosryhmien käyttöön. Tarkoituksena on ohjata käytäntöjä, jotka edistävät ja yhdenmukaistavat ilma-alusten käyttöä pelastustoimen tehtävissä sekä varautumisessa niihin. Tavoitteena on, että olemassa olevaa ilma-aluskalustoa käytettäisiin tarkoituksenmukaisesti pelastustoimen tehtävissä.
Ohjeessa määritellään erityyppisiin tehtäviin käytettävissä olevat ilma-alukset ja niiden hälyttämistä ja käyttöä koskevat periaatteet. Lisäksi käsitellään ilma-alusten käytöstä aiheutuvien kustannusten jakoa. Ohje antaa tukea myös pelastustoimen koulutukseen ja pelastustoiminnan yhteistyön suunnitteluun. Mukaan on lisäksi otettu esimerkkejä käytettävissä olevasta ilma-aluskalustosta. Liitteenä on SAR-toimintaa ja ilma-alusten hälyttämistä selventävät kaaviot.
Ohje on tehty virkatyönä sisäasiainministeriön pelastusosastolla. Ohjeluonnoksesta on pyydetty lausunnot sidosryhmiltä. Esitetyt näkökannat on otettu huomioon lopullisessa ohjeessa. Ohje on käsitelty sisäasiainministeriön pelastusosaston johtoryhmässä ja lopullisesti se on hyväksytty käyttöönotettavaksi allekirjoituksilla

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
