    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Analisis Efektivitas Investasi Perusahaan Daerah Pasar Resik Kota Tasikmalaya

    PD Pasar Resik can ideally make a major contribution to the regional revenue source of the City of Tasikmalaya. Investment Tasikmalaya City Government established and included capital for PD Pasar Resik initially to be able to manage traditional markets in a professional manner, but in its development even faced many problems for regional finance. Not only does it fail to be a source of revenue, it even burdens regional finances. The purpose of the study evaluates the effectiveness of government investment as well as the operational feasibility of PD Pasar Resik in Tasikmalaya City. Using descriptive methods based on collecting time series data through surveys, documentation and literature studies. Investment analysis is conducted using measurements of Earning Power of Total Investment (EpoTI), Rate of Return Investment (ROI), and Rate of Return on Net Worth (RoRoNW) or Rate of Return for the Owners. As a result, investments cannot be effectively managed due to complex problems, and PD Pasar Resik's operations are no longer effective or feasible.Pasar Resik idealnya dapat memberikan kontribusi besar bagi sumber penerimaan daerah Kota Tasikmalaya. Investasi Pemerintah Kota Tasikmalaya mendirikan dan menyertakan modal bagi Perusahaan Daerah (PD) Pasar Resik awalnya agar dapat mengelola pasar-pasar tradisional secara profesional, namun dalam perkembangannya malah menghadapi banyak masalah bagi keuangan daerah. Tidak hanya gagal menjadi sumber penerimaan, bahkan membebani keuangan daerah. Tujuan penelitian mengevaluasi efektivitas investasi pemerintah serta kelayakan operasional PD. Pasar Resik di Kota Tasikmalaya. Menggunakan metode deskriptif berdasarkan pengumpulan data runtun waktu melalui survei, studi dokumentasi dan literatur.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Being able to use and understand English is definitely a must for teachers and students in Fledgling International Standard Schools. It is due to the fact that English language is used for learning purposes and activities in the classroom. Consequently, teachers and students must be competent in using strategies to negotiate meaning which will enable them to understand the materials. This study investigated the meaning negotiation in classroom interaction between teachers and students in science classes of Fledgling International Standard School. This study explored two research problems dealing with (1) the way how meaning is negotiated in the classroom interaction between teachers and students and (2) the problems encountered by the teachers in negotiating meaning in the classroom interaction. This study employed a qualitative case study method. The data were collected through observation and questionnaires. The data were analyzed by the framework of meaning negotiation strategies suggested by Long (1983 in Abdullah 2011). The results revealed that the teachers and the students used seven strategies, namely clarification request, comprehension check, confirmation check, self repetition, other repetition, self correction, and approximation. It was also found that teachers faced several problems in negotiating meaning especially in grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The existing problems indicate that the school is not yet ready to implement Fledgling International Standard School. Based on the result, it is recommended that the teachers need a bridging course on teaching English for science classroom

    Cognitive behaviors in Indonesian-English translation: Exploring translation processes

    This present study investigated the cognitive behaviors in the processes of Indonesian-English translation. Two research questions were employed to find out; 1) what types of cognitive behaviors emerge in the translation processes, 2) and which types of cognitive behavior are the most dominant in the translation process? The data were taken from screen recording of translator activities in video supplemented by think-aloud protocols in TransCon6_ID.mp4 entitled "Panorama Sumba." The data were analysed qualitatively by following the steps: transcribing, identifying, classifying, and interpreting (Bailey, 2008). The result reveals that the translator uses several cognitive behaviors such as generating ideas, revising, elaborating, clarifying, retrieving, rehearsing, referencing or resourcing, and summarizing. However, the translator's most dominant behavior is referencing by seeking the dictionaries to solve the translation problem

    Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut : 1) Bagaimana pelaksanaan strategi peningkatan kinerja tenaga kependidikan oleh Kepala Sekolah di SMA Negeri 1 Banjarsari Kabupaten Ciamis? 2) Bagaimana hambatan-hambatan yang timbul dalam pelaksanaan strategi peningkatan kinerja tenaga kependidikan oleh Kepala Sekolah di SMA Negeri 1 Banjarsari Kabupaten Ciamis ? 3) Bagaimana upaya-upaya yang dilakukan guna mengatasi hambatan-hambatan yang timbul dalam pelaksanaan strategi peningkatan kinerja tenaga kependidikan oleh Kepala Sekolah di SMA Negeri 1 Banjarsari Kabupaten Ciamis?Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif analisis. Informan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 13 orang yang terdiri dari  Kepala Sekolah dan tenaga kependidikan di SMA Negeri 1 Banjarsari Kabupaten Ciamis.Teknik pengumpulan data adalah studi kepustakaan, studi lapangan (observasi dan wawancara) dan dokumentasi. Penulis mengunakan teknik analisis data kualitatif melalui pengolahan data hasil wawancara danobservasi untuk ditarik kesimpulan sehingga dapat menjawab permasalahan dalam penelitian.Berdasarkan hasil wawancara mengenai pelaksanaan strategi peningkatan kinerja tenaga kependidikan oleh Kepala Sekolah di SMA Negeri 1 Banjarsari Kabupaten Ciamis belum melaksanakan tiga komponen kegiatan utama dalam implementasi strategi yang terdiri dari perencanaan integral dan sistem pengendalian dan kepemimpinan, motivasi serta sistem komunikasi  dan manajemen Sumber Daya Manusia dan kultur organisasi secara optimal. Sedangkan berdasarkan hasil observasi belum adanya pembahasan secara formal untuk  perumusan dan perencanaan dan kurangnya dilakukan sosialisasi terhadap para pegawai serta kurangnya transparansi dari pimpinan dalam pelaksanaan penilaian terhadap kinerja pegawai, kurangnya di bangun komunikasi dua arah dengan para pegawai menyebabkan kurangnya tingkat pemahaman dalam menjalankan tugasnya serta belum adanya tugas khusus dari sekolah untuk mengikuti loka karya dan diklat.Adapun Hambatan-hambatan yang muncul dalam pelaksanaan strategi peningkatan kinerja antara lain kurangnya koordinasi, komunikasi dua arah dengan pegawai dalam melaksanakan pekerjaannya, kurangnya pegawai mengikuti rapat untuk membahas dan menentukan sasaran dan tujuan yang harus dicapai, kesulitan untuk menentukan standar yang jelas sebagi alat ukur untuk penilaian kinerja, kurangnya tingkat pendidikan pegawai yang sesuai dengan keahliannya.  Adanya upaya-upaya yang dilakukan untuk meangatasi hambatan-hambatan tersebut adalah memberikan kesadaran agar dapat memahami tentang pelaksanaan strategi peningkatan kinerja dan melakukan koordinasi, komunikasi untuk mengajak pegawai mengadakan rapat untuk membahas sasaran dan tujuan secara jelas dan terperinci serta memberikan kesempatan untuk melanjutkan pendidikannya ke jenjang yang lebih tinggi agar dapat melaksanakan pekerjaannya secara konsisten sehingga dapat di ajukan untuk promosi jabatan. Kata Kunci: Pelaksanaan, Strategi Peningkatan Kinerj
