Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Get PDFOpinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää toimeksiantajayrityksen taloushallinnon prosessien kehitystarpeita ja sitä, kannattaako prosesseja kehittyminen ja kustannussäästöt mielessä pitäen ulkoistaa tilitoimistolle. Toisena tavoitteena oli tehdä tarvekartoitusta uudesta toiminnanohjausjärjestelmästä sekä etsiä potentiaalisia järjestelmiä ja ulkopuolisia palveluntarjoajia. Opinnäytetyössä kohdeyrityksestä käytetään nimeä case-yritys. Työssä kartoitettiin case-yrityksen taloushallinnon sekä toiminnanohjauksen nykytilannetta nykytila-analyysin avulla ja tehtiin vertailutaulukoita eri palveluntarjoajien tarjouksista. Taulukoita käytettiin pohjana tarjouskilpailuprosessissa ja palveluntarjoajan valinnassa.
Työn tietoperustassa käsitellään ensin taloushallinnon prosesseja ja tietojärjestelmiä. Tämän jälkeen pureudutaan tiiviimmin toiminnanohjaus- ja taloushallintojärjestelmien kehittämiseen ja sen eri vaiheisiin. Lisäksi keskitytään toimintojen ulkoistamisen vaiheisiin, ulkoistamisen riskeihin ja nykytila-analyysin tekoon. Tietoperustassa on käytetty apuna internetistä löytyneitä artikkeleita ja alan kirjallisuutta.
Tutkimus on toteutettu toimintatutkimuksena. Tutkimuksen empiirinen osuus koostui haastattelusta, palavereista ja sähköpostilla tapahtuneesta viestinnästä. Organisaation työtapoja myös havainnoitiin tutkimalla työn ohjauksessa käytettyjen työvälineiden, kuten valkotaulujen ja post it -lappujen käyttöä. Opinnäytetyön tekijät olivat paljon läsnä case-yrityksessä tutkimuksen aikana ja he ikään kuin työskentelivät yritykselle. Tutkimuksen tuloksena syntyi case-yrityksen taloushallinnon nykytila-analyysi ja tarjousvertailut eri taloushallintopalveluiden tarjoajien tarjouksista. Lisäksi syntyi toiminnanohjauksen nykytilaselvityksen pohjalta tehty toiminnanohjauksen nykytilan esittelytiedosto, joka lähetettiin toiminnanohjausjärjestelmäpalveluntarjoajille etukäteen.
Tulokset olivat case-yritykselle hyödyllisiä, koska niiden perusteella yritys teki taloushallinnon ulkoistamispäätöksen ja tarjousvertailua apuna käyttäen myöskin tilitoimistovalinnan. Työn käytännön osuus päättyi case-yrityksen tilitoimistovalintaan. Työn jälkeen case-yritys siirtyi tilitoimiston kanssa käyttöönottovaiheeseen. Toiminnanohjausjärjestelmän osalta case-yritys päätti jatkaa projektia sitten, kun tilitoimistoyhteistyö on saatu kunnolla käyntiin.Research for a small company : how to develop financial management and enterprise resource planning (system)
The objectives of this thesis were to find out about a client-company’s financial management processes and how these should be developed. The main point was to find out what was its economical situation for outsourcing some parts of the company’s financial management. The other objective was to make a needs assessment concerning the company’s enterprise re-source planning (ERP) and find out if there could be a good ERP-system for the company’s needs in the making. The client-company is called a case-company in the thesis. The situation of the case-company’s financial management and ERP was examined with a current state analysis. The makers of the thesis made comparison tables about the quotations that accounting companies and other service providers sent. The tables were used as a base information in a tender and a final decision of the service provider.
The theory part of the thesis included financial management processes and information systems, developing process of financial management- and ERP-systems, outsourcing risks and process, which included for example the current state analysis. Financial management literature and internet articles were used as a source of the theory.
The thesis is a case study and it was done by using qualitative methods. The empirical part consisted of an interview, negotiations and email communication. The results of the thesis were the current state analysis of the case-company and two financial management quotation comparison tables. In addition, one other result was “current state presentation pdf”, which was sent to ERP-system service providers so that they could get know about the case-company’s current ERP procedures.
The results of the thesis were useful for the case-company. The company made a decision of outsourcing two of its parts of its financial management. These parts were payroll, bookkeeping and parts of invoicing. They also started to use an e-invoice system. By considering the quotation comparison tables, the company also made the decision as to which accounting company they will start cooperating with. After the thesis was completed the case-company started the initialization process with the accounting company. The possible ERP-system project might start after cooperation with the accounting company has completely started and is fluent

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
