Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. För att kunna erbjuda korrekt vård och rådgivning är det avgörande att förstå de bakomliggande orsakerna till hundens beteende, då det kan leda till effektiv och korrekt behandling. Problembeteenden kan exempelvis bero på underliggande sjukdomar eller andra fysiska besvär såsom smärta, men kan även utgöra ett sätt för hunden att uttrycka känslomässiga och sociala behov. Detta kan komma att presenteras i form av exempelvis vokaliseringar, utfall och svårigheter att vara ensam hemma. Djursjukskötare spelar en central roll i kommunikationen med djurägare, och en bred kunskap inom området är viktig för att kunna ge korrekt och individanpassad rådgivning.
Psykisk ohälsa och stress ökar i samhället enligt Folkhälsomyndigheten, vilket kan leda till hälsoproblem såsom sömnsvårigheter, irrationell ängslan och påverkan på flera av kroppens organsystem. Denna utveckling har lett till ökat fokus på psykisk hälsa inom humanvården, där insatser görs för att ständigt förbättra den vård som erbjuds, samt för att motverka stigma kring att söka hjälp. Samtidigt observeras utmaningar inom fältet; bland annat långa väntetider och begränsat utbud i vissa delar av Sverige. Arbetet med psykisk hälsa och även förebyggandet av psykisk ohälsa är något som prioriteras högt hos regeringen i 2025, bland annat i form av att det avsätts mer ekonomiska medel till detta arbete.
Forskning tyder på att det finns en biologisk interaktion, både fysisk och känslomässig, mellan hundar och deras ägare. Hundar kan spegla sina ägares känslomässiga tillstånd och påverkas även av ägarens personlighet, som anses vara relativt oförändrad över tid. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka om det finns samband mellan ägarens psykiska hälsa, stress och personlighet samt förekomst av problembeteenden hos deras hund. I denna studie användes data från den longitudinella enkätstudien ”Mitt liv med hund” (MLMH), som undersöker faktorer som påverkar välfärden för både människor och hundar. Resultaten visade samband mellan psykisk ohälsa och stress hos ägaren samt problembeteenden hos hunden. Dessutom identifierades kopplingar mellan ägarens personlighetsdrag, såsom extroversion, samvetsgrannhet och neuroticism, och hundens beteende. Dessa fynd understryker komplexiteten i ämnet och behovet av ytterligare forskning för att bättre förstå sambanden.

According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, mental health problems and stress are increasing in society. This can lead to health issues such as sleep problems, anxiety, and effects on different parts of the body. Because of this, mental health has received more attention in healthcare, with efforts to improve care and reduce the stigma around seeking help. However, challenges remain, including long waiting times and uneven access to services in different parts of Sweden. In 2025, preventing mental health problems is a high priority for the Swedish government, which has allocated more funds to support this work.
Research shows that there is a biological connection, both physical and emotional, between dogs and their owners. Dogs can sense and reflect their owners’ emotional states, and they are also influenced by their owners’ personalities, which tend to stay fairly stable over time. The aim of this study was to explore whether there are links between the owner’s mental health, stress, and personality traits, and behavioral problems in their dogs. This study used data from the ongoing long-term survey “Mitt liv med hund” (MLMH; “My Life with Dogs”), which looks at factors affecting the well-being of both people and dogs. The results showed connections between the owner’s mental health and stress and the dog’s behavioral problems. The study also found links between certain personality traits of the owner, such as extraversion, conscientiousness, and neuroticism, and the dog’s behavior. These findings show that this is a complex topic and that more research is needed to understand these relationships better.
For veterinary nurses, it is valuable to have knowledge in this area, as there is growing evidence that the owner’s well-being is connected to their dog’s behavior. It is important to develop skills to handle difficult conversations, such as those about behavioral problems and lifestyle changes, to better support both dog owners and their pets

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
